Weekend Photo Fun 10-10-08 to 10-12-08

While we are on explanations, can someone please tell me why the 'Weekend Photo fun' section covers 3 days (72 hours). I thought there were only two days on a weekend. I finish work Friday arvo then the weekend starts at midnight.

I'm not complaining as we have an extra day to get the photos in.

We just finished a three day weekend here (called a long weekend) where my footy team won the grand final and I attended the major annual model rail exhibition here in Sydney.

I enjoy viewing this thread each weekend.

WPF often runs 4 and sometimes 5 days!  Being retired, WPF starts Friday & runs to Thursday!!

A prison detail is out to help keep a crossover from being taken over by nature. The guards are out of camera view.

This coaling station is being made over into a heavily weathered structure. It will have a partially collapsed wall and pieces of the heavily rusted roof gone. The rest of the roof will appear as if ready to cave in at the slightest touch. Work on it is going slowly. I have close to six projects in front of me at this time.

It might be so that we model railroaders (..eh, well some of us) try to extend the weekend with the Friday afternoon and the early Monday morning...

Or is it just that we live in different time Zone?

A good thing can not be extended too much! Lets start a new thread about what's a weekend?

On the other hand there are some very nice photos here, I especially enjoyed shayfan's Jordan vehicles and Gramphy's mine! I get inspired!

Great start again this weekend folks!  I haven't been doing anything "photogenic" this week, but I am getting some shots ready for a presentation next weekend at the Lakeshores Division NMRA Meet.  I will be talking about wiring and installing the Tortoise Machine so I have been looking for shots that I have taken of them over the last couple years as I have installed them on my layout.  Some installations were a bit "different" to say the least.  For instance what do you do when you are retrofitting a turnout that is installed right over a 1x4 support beam?  I made a scratch assembly using some left over brass tubing, piano wire, and a length of old code 100 rail to create a "remote" installation.  Here is the "under the table" portion:



And here is what it looks like up above on the layout:



The piano wire throw will be blackened so it should blend in and a Details West switch throw and and target will complete it.  here is another place with a similar installation.  The targets are installed.

Don't know if I posted this, but I went to the Musuem of Industry (or whatever it's called...) in Chicago over the summer.

 

Thought I'd see how some of the filters in Picasa worked and I liked how this turned out.... Sorry for the "bad" cropping... someone thought it a good idea to walk through the frame just as I took the picture (and I was getting dragged away, so no time for a second shot... )

Just a couple of pictures from me, as I keep making progress.  It's far from a masterpiece though, so don't judge it that way.

 I talked about how my Mountain comes apart so here are a few PIC to give you a idea of how it was made.

 Many key is the aluminum beam (I think it is aluminum) so I can span the 7 foot hidden yard.

 There are two main points that are glued to the base foam. One is the lower portal in the PIC other is at the rear of the bench I have yet posted a PIC of. Evan the ground the mine sits on can be lifted off the bench, I would have to pull the bridges to the mine but that is easy. Makes it so much easier to work on!            

 This PIC is of the cliff that faces K-10 Mining. I added a tunnel for the miners and craved the foam. It is in its first colors dark and darker gray. After it is dry I will added some brown, then orange and a black wash in the deep spots.

 

 I all so got a box of Super Tress today. I like them much better than most of the trees I have so far.

 By the way, thanks for putting up with me in WPF.

Great Work So Far This Weekend!
Time to lower the quality of pictures with a Cell Phone pic!

I still need to finish the bridge with all the details, but the basic structure is done. I need to solder the electronics in, but the motor, and one of the auto shut off switches has been installed. It will be operating at a couple of Massachusetts shows, although its won't look great cosmetically. After I get my airbrush for X-mas I predict it will look much better.

Here's a couple of pictures. The NP F units are two MRC F7A's and one dummy Stewart F3B that I just painted. (I need to get the decals).  Second photo shows E5's arriving in valley Heights.

Meet the newest addition to my collection. BNSF SD40 6319. I just put a decoder in it today (Digitrax DZ125). It an Athearn rtr model. If I was looking at it in a display case it would have to go begging for another buyer because I'm not buying anymore rtr locos from Athearn. This one was a gift from a friend in Orlando, Florida. Anybody need a lightboard for an Athearn diesel? This one has a quick-plug on it.

Hi all: Nice Tj! The track gang is finishing the replacement spur into the loader at Blackwood Coal Co. Reading No. 633 is preparing to pull some loaded hoppers from the loader. That's a great looking truck, Phil.
