Acoustics is my life.....

F sub 1 being the highest up doppler as it approches, F sub 2 being the lowest down before contact is lost. F sub zero would be the frequency as close to true as it passes by at the closest point of approach. Once F sub zero is determined a speed can be determined of the object based on the frequency, as long as no other factor changes........

oh sorry........Broadway

Think about what you just wrote...how many times have I said "keep it about trains?" , , and really how many times did I go head to head with you know who over folks having fun on the forums? My point was this is a place for fun...ifsomeone says "lets keep it about models only", then we might as well get rid of darn near most the topics that come up. I wasn't flaming you hoss. If I was gonna do that you'd know. i'm on the side of fun...I have a job already, I don't need to come here to be bored.

Well,I always love the self appointed moderators..Let the moderators at MR decide on what is the right or wrong with this or that type of topic..Please and Thanks!
You see by doing that one does not need to worry about getting flame or starting a fuss that the poster never intended.

modelrailroading, like life, is a cornucopia. Let's enjoy it all, and as my generation used to espouse in the 60's " hang loose "

Well if we get rid of prototype stuff we have to get rid of off topic stuff too. Also the Prototype page is for asking questions.

I find it kinda curious that someone is asking to keep the discussions to "model railroading" and to please NOT talk about "real trains" all while displaying a huge billboard sized picture of a REAL train?

Am I missing something here?

Nope! But I think someone else "missed the Train" [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

There would be no model trains without real trains. So while we're at it...that would mean no more posts about stars, nothing about country music, how old you are, what you do for a living, what kind of music you listen to while modelling, snow driving, never ending stories, polls and polls and more polls, and polls on polls (thankfully member polls are not done on the Trains side of the house), us, me, happy birthdays, why I'm quitting the the forums, why I'm back on the forum, where's so and so.......nothing but model trains here....and we'd have what, maybe three pages of topics......good grief!

Hey guys, sorry about yelling up there, but I wanted to be heard above the din. I don't see any need to argue here. Shaun has a point, Bergie has created a forum folder specificly for posts about prototype matters. The purpose was to reduce the clutter here in general discussion. If nobody wants to use that folder, the guys over on CTT could put it to very good use, since they only have one, and MR has 4. I'm not saying use it or lose it, that's for Bergie to decide. But why would it be there if it wasn't meant to be used??? Think about it!!!!

Try it, you might like it!!! And Shaun please check the attitude at the door.

Shawn,
I don't see anything wrong with posting about real trains here. I myself don't go over to the TRAINS side very often. I'm here about modeling a railroad. If I have to ask or have an inquiry about a railroad, then 9 times out of 10, I'm going to ask it here.

Just my 2 cents

Gordon

A poster should be able to post their thoughts on this forum. We don't have to comply with the suggestions , if we don't care to. What I don't like is how people seem to care so little for how they treat each other on this forum. READ OVER WHAT YOU SAY!! If it can be taken as insensitive, snide, curt, or hurtful, change it so it isn't! I don't feel you have the right to be these things!

I've said it before on another thread--since locked so I won't mention the DOS--did I say that out loud?. Back to topic--if all anyone did was talk about work @ work, or MR's @ GENERAL DISCUSSION, life would be pretty boring. Kevin said it pretty well a few posts ago. I find it pretty interesting to see what prototypes modellers prefer.

Basically, the two go hand in hand and it can be hard to differentiate. After all, a piece about real trains can always lead to discussions about model ones. But in Shaun`s defense, I have found that you can sometimes forget that there are plenty of topics ovet at the Trains boards and spend a lot of time here. I`m sure some middle ground can be found.
Now if you all will excuse me, I have some garden gnomes to attend to...

Hey Shaun and everyone, Bergie has given the modelers here their own prototype forum folder to discuss this stuff, the secret is to know that it is there and use it. No need to argue, please. Just remember that the real experts hangout on the Trains Mag. forum when you want answers.

Who cares. the admin doesnt seem to care about saving space on the server. Besides, like a few people said, our trains are base on 1:1 prototypes

I don't mind the occasional post about real RRs, as long as it's mostly MR stuff.

What's hard to deal with, sometimes, is absolutely HUGE sig pics. ;)

IMHO Real trains are just a 1:1 scale MR that the vast majority of us can't afford. Lets not get too high faluting there guy.

Lots of room for all scales in this forum!

I have to repond here, as I think a great injustice has been done to many of use here. First I have no problem with post or replies pertaining to real railroads. After all, thats what I am modeling. Second, this is a general discussion forum for model railroaders. Thirdly, I can't fully understand someone that posts a lot of and replies to a lot of real railroad polls and subjects would complain about them. Lastly, we are quests here and as long as we follow the rules set forth for this forum we can have discussions on pretty much anything we like, including real railroads. Nuff said.

For one thing, ShaunCN, it IS "GENERAL DISCUSSION," is it not? IMO I believe this forum is the most visited one out of all Kalmbach website forums, so whatever you post here might get looked at a little more. (by the way mainecentral229.. collecting lawn gnomes?! [xx(] that was pretty insulting!)
