That's a hard, hard choice. I picked the RS-series but I was very close to choosing the DL-109 and the PA-1.

My all time favorite alco is the RS-2, it's still, after all these years, the best looking freight locomotive of all time in my oppinion.

By the way, I'm still looking for any RS-1/2/3s still in use on railroads (tourist and other restored locomotives excluded as I've already got great photos of them) so if anyone knows of any or has heard of any please tell me! I'm still kicking myself for not taking photos of them when there were more of them around.

If I had to narrow it down to just one particular model of ALCO locomotive, it would be the S-2.

Not sure where you live but in Quakertown, PA the East Penn Railroad has ex-BR&W RS1 57 on the property. Heard rumors that it's been out of service, but that will change soon.

Does the M420 count? It is my favorite, but as it was built by MLW in the '80s, I'm not totally sure it counts. It sure was more different from the C420 than the M630 was from the C630.

I had to vote for the "S"-series. (Particulary, the S1 switcher.) I'm mainly a steam guy but I LIKE that little switcher. [:)]

Boy I am I outnumbered. I chose DL-109. Man what a beast. The most butt ugly beautiful diesel locomotive in Alco history.
