I like the SD40 & SD40-2 , I voted for the SD40 though, The SD40 has that power house tough look to it , while the SD40-2 has that stretched cruiser look to it. Due to the longer portches. & the cabs have that classic tough look about them. Any way you look at it , It's taking care of bussiness time for these brutes. "HAPPY RAILS"

I've seen their site. Nice models. I've got one of the old Gem Brass models I picked up at a bargain price, but then again, it wasn't the best model. I've also done a kitbash SDF40-2. I 'm thinking about doing a notched nose variant now, but I've got a few other projects in que ahead of it.

I voted the SD40-2, however, it is a variant of the 40-2. The SD40T_2, in D&RGW paint.
Four motors, grinding up to Soldier Summit...Oh the memories!

I assume we're talking prototype. That being the case, the SD40-2 is the best loco ever made. Nothing else even close.

I voted for the SD-45. Why? Only because I purchased one back in 1968, in S.P. colors. I knew nothing about diesels then, but liked the looks of it and the price. If I remember correctly, it was an Athearn semi kit. Being in the Navy at El Centro, Ca. and living in base housing, had no room for a layout so had to set up an oval of sectional track on the floor to run a train. Had to travel to Yuma, Az. for a hobby shop.

Didn't like it at first until I saw a picture in a TRAINS issue years back of 4 or 5 units hauling a hotshot freight. What was captivating about the photo was that it was that the time was late afternoon and the locomotives show up as "silouhettes" against the desert background with an orange and blue sky.[C):-)][C):-)][C):-)][C):-)].

You couldn't see the road names or body colors, but those porches and the cab profile really stood out! [swg][tup]

The boxy, rugged outline of these SD40-2s gave an impression of solid, well-built American horsepower! [^][tup] [;)][tup]

I like the SD40-2. I like the porches and like to imagine myself standing up there at 60+ miles per of an hour with my hands on the handrail and the wind in my long curly locks!
