Mines the SD75I, closely followed by the SD40-2 . A great looking and powerful diesel. What's yours?

I like the SD40-2. I like the porches and like to imagine myself standing up there at 60+ miles per of an hour with my hands on the handrail and the wind in my long curly locks!

SD40-2.[:D]

Didn't like it at first until I saw a picture in a TRAINS issue years back of 4 or 5 units hauling a hotshot freight. What was captivating about the photo was that it was that the time was late afternoon and the locomotives show up as "silouhettes" against the desert background with an orange and blue sky.[C):-)][C):-)][C):-)][C):-)].

You couldn't see the road names or body colors, but those porches and the cab profile really stood out! [swg][tup]

The boxy, rugged outline of these SD40-2s gave an impression of solid, well-built American horsepower! [^][tup] [;)][tup]

I voted for the SD-45. Why? Only because I purchased one back in 1968, in S.P. colors. I knew nothing about diesels then, but liked the looks of it and the price. If I remember correctly, it was an Athearn semi kit. Being in the Navy at El Centro, Ca. and living in base housing, had no room for a layout so had to set up an oval of sectional track on the floor to run a train. Had to travel to Yuma, Az. for a hobby shop.

I assume we're talking prototype. That being the case, the SD40-2 is the best loco ever made. Nothing else even close.

I voted the SD40-2, however, it is a variant of the 40-2. The SD40T_2, in D&RGW paint.

Dharmon,

Nice choice![swg][tup]

In case you were not aware, go to: www.asmodels.com
Pretty cool offerings.

This company, Absolute Scale Models is now offering a nice resin kit shell of the SDP40f in HO scale! Fits the Athearn FP45 chassis (may be a limited run). It also has resin kits of the various styles of the F40 available. Check it out! [;)][8D][:D][:)][^]

God Bless!

SD40-2 for me. It's the most common locomotive on my layout at 9 units.
I hope to be getting 2 more soon.

Brought to you by the letters C.P.R. as well as D&H!

Thanks....
I've seen their site. Nice models. I've got one of the old Gem Brass models I picked up at a bargain price, but then again, it wasn't the best model. I've also done a kitbash SDF40-2. I 'm thinking about doing a notched nose variant now, but I've got a few other projects in que ahead of it.

I like the SD40 & SD40-2 , I voted for the SD40 though, The SD40 has that power house tough look to it , while the SD40-2 has that stretched cruiser look to it. Due to the longer portches. & the cabs have that classic tough look about them. Any way you look at it , It's taking care of bussiness time for these brutes. "HAPPY RAILS"

I voted for the SD70 (and variants) in the poll, but then got to thinking it would actually be a tie between the SD70 and the SD40-2. The 40-2 (and variants) were/are work horses. Very dependable. From what I hear, the SD70M is turning out to be the same.

No SD-30?

Oh wait, I was dreaming that one up. Has anyone ever tried to kitbash a six-axled '30? For kicks, ya know. I'd vote for it!

In reality, though, I voted for the '45. It's just such a bulky, muscular engine, especially with N&W's high short hoods, and its 3600 hp was far-sighted enough to keep it in service to the present.

I voted for the SD9. It's the first SD I had ever purchased and the only six axle my RR has at the moment (2 are in the PVL paint shop-still!). My other candidates would be the SD80MAC since it was my first loco to be a freight conductor on for CSX 4 years ago, or an SD40-2 simply because of those porches. I had an HLCX unit in my consist one night while going to Richmond, VA from Baltimore and I felt that the engineer and I should hold a cookout on the rear of our second unit at the next red signal[:D]. Anyway, here's my lone PVL SD9.
