Haven't been doing a heck of a lot the last week, but here's a 'tailing' trestle I've built for the Champion Mine complex.

Still have to put in the tailings, mine doors and log wall to keep the tailings from slopping over onto the mainline (in back).

The scenery, the weathering...Great work everyone! My project this week is not quite as glamourous but gotta start somewhere. Installed some front boards on the brackets along the east wall of the layout room and did some of the benchwork across the doorway:

I live in aiken, so I'm doing a freelanced version w/ a few real world ties that runs from Aiken-Eureka-Trenton-Edgefield. Those towns are right around where I live, so I can get some good scenery pictures to go off of. I'll see about the pickens rwy., though.

EDIT: Real interesting Robby. They've got 8 U18Bs 9no n scale model of that though), but they do have a good traffic base. The paint scheme is really cool as well. I'll dig up some info and compare what I'm doing to it (only drawback is I'll have to dump my three locos probably [a GP30, a GP9, and a H-15-44) and figure out how to make a U18B.

Packers#1 you should do something with the Pickens railway.  Since you are in SC and my family was from SC (right above Pickens), that might be up your ally.  Its based out of Pickens SC.  Just a idea.

Grampy - very nice subtle weathering job, both on the car and the bridge shoes.

Here's a shot of the new Athearn Checker Cab that just showed up at my LHS.

This is one of a series of 4, I think, in different cab company colors.  I like the more muted finish they put on it, instead of the high-gloss surface that comes on most auto models.  Still needs a bit of weather, but I couldn't wait to take a picture.

Here's what I've been up to the past few weeks:

The mountains are made w/ pink foam, blue foam, and styrofoam glued together w/ hot glue. The foam will be covered w/ plaster cloth.

And here's the prototype of my the yard I'll be putting in on my big layout:

Since this will only be servicing 2 locomotives on my next layout, I moved locomotive servicing to the other end of the A/D track and put it on one long track (an H-15-44 and a medium road switcher can't use a whole lot of fuel, right?). The gP30 is parked in what was locomotive servicing. I've almost finished ballasting, and still have to wire it (atlas terminal rail joiners).

And right now I'm bidding on a GP35 on ebay. if I lose it (and I'm not opursuing it that hard), I'll get some plaster cloth and terminal rail joiners for my current layouts. BTW, great work so far everyone

Hi all:  Nice pics!  Here's my latest weathering attempt.

While railfanning near Cold Spring, NY, two boomers are lucky enough to catch a meet between one of the NYC's premier trains, the Empire State Express, southbound to Gotham and a northbound freight one long ago Sunday.

There's no Photoshop trickery here, save for the smoke. This is a diorama scene, shot against the actual backdrop of the Hudson River and the Hudson Highlands' famous Storm King Mountain.

A couple of things going on here this week.

 

First of all a visiting Reefer is being hauled off to the classification yard for dispatch to a layout out West.

I also completed the build of an old and little know JL Innovative structure called Dunn Processing

Alright, this is what I have been working on.

Right now I'm starting to kit bash a GP38 into a SDL39. Yes I know I could have bought the kit, but I figured this way would be cheaper, and would work on my Kitbashing skills. Right now I have cut most of the long hood off as the doors on that end didn't match. I have Cannon and Co. Parts on order. When the parts arrive I'll chop the molded in frame shorter. I don't have an updated picture but I cut out the Conductors side battery box as that didn't match either. Right now I'm looking for SDL39 truck side frames.
