I figure it's a long weekend, so let's go!

One of my brand new Tyco USA express Alco's, the only R/W/B trains I have.

Jeffrey, the hopper is real nice looking.  I need to get some covered hoppers.  I own exactly... NONE!

Here's what I've been working on the past couple nights.  It's the larger warehouse for my Dad's layout.  It's going to be located behind the engine service facility, against the backdrop.  It will hide a large hole in the backdrop that some tracks pass through.

In this next shot you can see my tiny workbench.  But it gets the job done.

My daughter wanted to take a picture of me working on my models.  She's a pretty good photographer for 5yrs old.  The block of wood I'm pushing up against is to square up the edges.  I also stand it on the long side to use as a sanding block square.  I sandwich some sandpaper between it and the table top.  It works great and *** near free!  Just below my mouth you can see a picture of the Hotel Vancouver I printed out from last weeks post.  Just above it (behind my big head;) ) is  picture of Reading terminal in Philly.  That will probably be my next project.

Here's all the pieces prior to assembly.  You can see the kit bag in the upper center of this shot.

I'll post more as I build it.

Keep the axels greased and the tender full, we're rollin' now.

I have spent a good chunk of this week, at least my modelling time working on the miners house that was featured in a construction thread.  http://cs.trains.com/forums/1/1475957/ShowPost.aspx#1475957 Here it is in its position on the layout.  There is plenty of scenery work to do to blend it in properly.

There are also some out-buildings for the neighbors house that I built last week.  A summer kitchen, smoke house and fire-pit on the left.

Have a wonderful 4th everyone!

Thanks G.  The kit you ordered will be a perfect introduction.  It is the basis of a modelling competition on another forum.  http://www.kitforums.com/viewforum.php?f=22 if you follow that link you will see a dozen or more examples of the same kit where modellers have taken artistic licence to build the structure.  The only rule was that you had to use parts form the kit.  Extra wood etc had to be salvaged from the left overs of the kit.  My little smoke house was made that way, even using the shipping envelope for the shingles.  Anyway, there are some really neat ideas for this kit at that site.  Good luck with it.

My only RWB Loco:  A Athearn SW-1000(I think).    Sorry for the bad picture, this one was probably my first picture I took of my layout.  My picture-taking has improved a whole bunch because of help of others. Happy 4th of July!

Sorry for the bad shots.  The laptop has a better picture editing program than the desk top.  Didn't feel like turning it on Whistling [:-^]

Looks like another weekend of great pics on great projects.

Here's an update on the Buttes--looks like it's turning out to be an all-summer project.  About 3/4 done and lots of work still to do.

This is a shot of Bassett's, where a trail will begin leading up the Buttes to a future Forest Service lookout tower.

Here's an overview of Sierra City, Bassett's and the Buttes so far.  The Buttes are a combination of Cripplebush rubber rocks and Sculptamold rock castings.  "Cat Butte" is to the left of center.  It's the one with the jagged 'ears'.   It wasn't planned, it was kind of a 'mold' accident, but I decided to keep it.  Tongue [:P]

A couple of guys talking things over near the new turntable..

and I had to perform a C section today, both parent and little one are doing fine..

actually, I have a couple of O scale engines that have been sitting up for a good while without use and are now balky about running so I'll change out the rechargable battery to see if that's the problem.  I sure wish HO had O sound!

Great work here so far. I forget if I've shown ya'll my new desktop layout ( I think the answer is no), so here it is.

My favorite scene: an abandoned station.

And yes, I have fixed up the tracks so the weeds aren't so high.

Some very, very nice photos already, and the weekend is still very young!

In between cleaning house and packing for camp next week, I found a few minutes to play with the camera.  Some new CFL's arrived this week for the layout.  I decided to try some 10w 5000K Full Spectrum from NeoLight.  These are instant on and come on almost at full brightness.  They are supposed to be the equivalent of a 40w incandescent, but the lumen output is more like a 50w incandescent.  the difference between them and the 2700k 9 and 11 watt CFLs I have been using is drastic.  My son was just here and i asked him which he preferred for the layout and he said the new without a doubt!  So here are a few new photos shot without any additional lighting of some sceniced areas on the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & Western RR

The first two are lighted completely by the new CFLs.  All were done in Manual Mode, f/22, ISO 400, white set for Daylight.

At Hopewell Junction

These were partially lit with the new and partially light with the old 2700k.

Ray, I like the fence in that 3rd photo.  Scratchbuilt or store bought?  Either way it looks good, I've got to build one similar.

Happy Fourth of July!

Today I chased the W&W Fireworks Express from Ashland to Hockessin.  Here are some of my favorite pics.

#98 crossing Ashland Truss Bridge

Passing the site of Yorklyn Water Tower

Pulling into Hockessin

I also went to the local club (Nordel) open house.  It was the first time I used DCC.  I drove a passenger train with 3 SAL E-units.  I rearended a stopped coal drag Sign - Oops [#oops] causing a minor derailment.  Sorry no pics.
