I am going to use this thread to show the woman of the house that I am not going over board on buying engines. For the same model I have as follows:

Proto 2000 E6a Southern Tennessean

Proto 2000 E6a Southern Freighter

I also have two SD7s one UP and the other SOU.

The rest are all alone. All my engines have DCC and sound so maybe thats why I have so few. They are pricy.

So, it looks like the answer to your question is that only a few of us have more than 12 of the same model locomotive.

My RR has;

Two CF7's

Two SD60's

Four E8/9's

Two GP38's

Six SD35's (I built these using Athearn BB SD9's, IHC shells, and Austrian Atlas handrails)

Four GP30's (I built these with Lionel shells and Athearn BB GP35's)

Two F40PH's

Two F9B's (the only dummies I have)

Three SW7's

One SW1500

Two GP9's

One RS3

Two Hustlers

I eventually want to add one USRA 2-10-2

As always, it's up to you, sfrailfan, but have you ever heard of the concept used by a lot of us old-timers: staggering numbers to make a class of cars or locos look larger than it really is?  It's so old I don't even remembeer where I heard of it, but it was back in the early '60s.  I used the idea on my old HO Colorado Western, where I bought Kemtron (now PSC) smokebox front number plates and numbered my roster of KTM Porter Moguls in a staggered manner, such as Nos. 22, 25 and 26, 28, etc.

That way, it looks like there are others of the class at work elsewhere on the system--and the neat thing is, you can buy more as you can afford them and fill in the number strings as you go!  If I live to build my complete loco roster for the Mineral Point & Northern (including the Mineral Point RR, which the MP&N bought out during the Panic of 1903) and two or three engines of the Platteville & Calamine, which was a wholly owned subsidiary of the old MPRR, the numbers will be consecutive.  Some prototype roads, like the Virginia & Truckee, did this, removing number plates from engines they scrapped or sold off and placing them on newly acquired engines.  You sometimes see this on roster lists as "First #17" or "Second #5.)
However, I recently decided the old MPRR might've bought more than the three bobber cabooses (cabeese?) I'd planned on--the MP&N bought only two more modern 4-wheel crummies--and I'll show this by having gaps in the numbers of existing hacks.  This makes imminent sense with freight and passenger cars, to show a large, or larger, fleet of any given car type.
(Say, has anyone else had their messages go into Italics without wanting it--or being able to get it back to normal??)
