I HATE BNSF!! cant stand the ugly orange. And LOVE U.P. i hope they Merge with more RR, and end up having more and more locomotives and rolling stock in U.P. colors, they need to paint those old beat up Grande and S.P. and CNW engines already.

I too love them all!!!!! There's no train from any road that I don't like!

However, I do hold a very big grudge against Metra for the scrapping of Richard Jensen's GTW 4-6-2 5629! Even though the incident occurred back in 1988 when I was 2 years old, it still angers me to hear about how it happened. While I'm sure that they have new management by now, I still haven't quite forgiven them.

I never liked Chessie Systems - I always thought the paint scheme (orange, yellow, navy blue) was sort of toy like. On the other hand, SP is my favorite RR but has one of the most boring paint schemes around. - Go figure?!

They abandoned any line they found unprofitable- after their crappy service forced all the local customers to trucks. And other lines were ripped up- notably any line that could someday be competition for them! They tried their darndest to eliminate the local line, there actually was some rail traffic but they didn't want to bother. And after a rumored deal with a couple NY State short lines that would have let CN run trains right through the old Erie main, they decided it should be removed- Good thing a few people realized what was happening. Otherwise all we'd have is a great bicycle & hiking trail.

Thanks dougal, the European Highspeed trains run mostly on separate track, with wider curves, low grades and no railroad crossings, only bridges or tunnels allow roads to cross the tracks, so that they can maintain very high speeds at all time, mostly just before the few stations it stops, the separate TGV track joins regular tracks.

No, it uses the same tracks regular Amtrak, MBTA, Shore Line East, New Jersey Transit, SEPTA, MARC, Conrail Shared Assets (Whats left of Big Blue), CSX and Norfolk Southern run on.

I won't answer, for obvious reasons [:P], but my son Tommy (7) has one:
The french TGV company because they use separate tracks where they have exclusive rights over,and won't share them with any other locomotive he thinks THAT is anti-social. For that reason he refuses to ride the TGV or Eurostar, he says: all trains must share all track available

BTW does the US ACELA also use "own" tracks or does that occupy normal tracks?

Besides the UP for charging fees and abandoning Tennessee pass, I'd say the honors or dishonors go to Conrail.

They improved their bottom line by abandoning hundreds, maybe thousands of miles of track. Many small towns will never hear the whistle (horn) of a train again because of those greedy SOBs.

Until recently, I would have no opinion. However, I have a gripe against U.P. for their managment's stupidity over the licensing issue! I read somewhere that U.P. is charging the steam group for the use of their logo! If this is true, I would take this to mean that the steam group is a separate entity from U.P. What's up with this Canadian Bashing?!? C.N. and C.P. are not owned by BNSF or U.P................................................................................................., yet! Go easy on our Canadian brothers!

I don't have a least favourite, I just wish CN would get their act together and spruce up their equipment, Peeling paint, burnt on grime is a tell tale and red flag. It's a sign of poor maintenance, which translates into accident stats. Not good when the line that goes by your workplace is hauling chemicals to a refinery.

It's seems real easy to "bash" the UP these days--but what other Class 1 has the wherewithal to actually put money into a steam program??? The list is short and ends with the UP. It's great to see the 3985 or 844 pulling a streamliner in the 21st century!!! I hope the rebuilding of the 844 is going well. NS gave up their program several years ago so UP is the last Class 1 standing--kudos to Steve Lee, the crew and the UP for active Class 1 steam!!!

NS and Penn Central. N&W, Southern, PRR, and NYC were great roads before those mergers happened!
