I started a new posting and I hope that is OK. I started to use the current one but looks like a small fire fight may have broken out.
Weekend Fun 03-23-08
Well I finally have something to show! I have let the new section set for around 6 months and never touched it. In the last few weeks I got the fire to work on it again. Main thing is I don't run the layout till I spend some time on the new section called K-10 Mining
First picture is of the gain elevator line. I have never been into switching or OP's but it was time to give it a try. Outer loop is the C branch line. Passing spur is where the cars will be dropped off. Where the coal cars are sitting will be where the elevator will be. For me this is complex switching but you have to start somewhere. Main thing it all works with out a hitch.
Next picture is the A line and grade to the mining company.
My A line will cut through the center of the new bench. Turn out off the A line will lead to the mining company. It is a 4% grade but space is a little tight. Turn is all so 18", but I think I have the power to push 10 hoppers up the grade.
Next picture is of the hidden staging, small but a start! Garage door is north. About ½ of the bench you see to the east now will be covered. K-10 Mining will be toward the South and about 4 inch above the bench. East side will have the town of Alton IL, it will be around 15 inches high.
Town of Alton IL
Next picture maybe a problem. I started the grade off a # 4 Atlas turnout to the mining company. I will find out I the next few days.
Most amazing thing is I have been into the new bench so much? I have 3 new engines and 4 freight cars I have not opened in 2 weeks! Rather spend the time working on the bench than installing decoders or building rolling stock.

Mods may see differnet, but I like the thought. Looks good so far. What are the box cars on the angle siding?

Thanks for the reply Fash. They are Athearn Pearl Brewing Company Country Club cars. I have 7 of them and love the colors.

That;s why I like them. I have seen those cars, and they do look nice.
I must be going blind, I don't recall those last few pictures before...
One more question, Is the nw section connected to the rest of the layout by a switch I can't see? I don't see a place for the grade to tie into on the other parts.
Didn't New Haven I-5 start a new Photo Fun that goes until sunday before you Cudaken?
Please read your PM from me and let me know what you want to do. Thanks.
Tom
Fash, there is a cross over on the North end of the bench. You maybe going blind but, I post part of the posting, then check and post again. You may have caught the posting while I was editing.
Lamoille, yes and no. I started the new posting before Haven I-5 started theres. But, I did change the date from 03-23-08 to 03-23-08 to the 31st. I have never started or post in Weekend Photo Fun and do not know the ruels if any about starting the posting.
Hope I did not step on any toes. Time to run trains and thanks for the answers.

He is you! That's the problem!

Get over it geez......
Happy Easter, Cudaken!
Your layout is really coming along! In the time you've been in the forum it's been fun watching you evolve into a true model railroader.

Since the other photo thread went down in flames, here's what I worked on this week. I spent a few hours on Thursday mixing plaster and applying wet castings on my layout:
Yesterday I spent some time applying the first round of coloring...I still have a lot of work to do.

That's really looking GOOD! Post progress photos as you color in, okay?--really nice job!

Probably not. The usual troll has been playing around with assuming others' identities to embarrass them. "Lamoille Valley" is likely just the troll picking up stuff from Luke's profile to create his own bogus profile.

I think tstage confirmed my suspicions. Probably best to get back on topic now...
Well, I was going to post in the other WPF but there's too much fire, though it seems to have died off a little.
Anywho, here's an old photo of mine, unfortunately, nothing new. maybe next WPF

You are off to a good start, what you have so far looks good. I envy you having a garage available for your layout. Have you a trackplan of the new layout you could share?

jeffrey, the tanker looks good.
Not a fan of graffiti myself, but as it is now all over your model is certainly a good representative of today's culture.
I drive by a large CN yard every day and it amazes me how widespread graffiti is, hardly a car without it.
I like the tanker Jeff! If I could just make one suggestion, you might try taking off a little of that paint on the left-hand truck, it looks to be a little thick. Just my
I finally have some photos to show! Just been playing around with different perspectives on my mostly finished area. I really need to finish painting the rails......
I have some new updates on my railroad blog too, see link: http://wrsrr.blogspot.com/
I posted this on the other WPF thread, but it was on the downwind side of the fire. I'm feeling so good about it that I want to be sure the less heated crowd gets to see it.
I've been working on this turntable for a few weeks. It's HO scale and the pit is from scratch, but the bridge is a wood kit. I used 5mm sealed ball bearings for the carrier wheels and it works great.

h, that ,make good sense. Thank you! I may yet have some 1:1 scale pics for yall, Some guy named CSX was out retracking Western Indiana today.
Not being picky here - but explain the "weekend" being March 23rd to March 31. That's more like 7 days - translate 1 week. I always thought the weekend fun was Friday to Sunday. Without a program I can't keep up to all this non organized 'do whatever anyone pleases' as of late. Trolls or no trolls. No wonder flame wars are occuring all over the place - For everyone's well being, I really think Spring better arrive soon.
I'm here to learn about and to admire everyone's work. Not to boost my post count.

best guess, we lost part of Sunday and maybe Saturday to "debates". Also, and more accurately, for most of us, ie the normal people, this is Spring Break. Which translates into a week to work on layout. But some of us have weird schools, and we don't get off til next week...

Now why wouod you want to do a thing like that?
SpaceMouse wrote:Nice Phil. Say, how come all your engines are painted gold?
Thanks for the complement.
It's this weird brass thing. In days of old, foreign loco-makers made beautiful golden locos, but they had two speeds: Fast and stop (mostly stop). Out of courtesy to their customers, they left them unpainted and without lights or windows so we can put in good motors and gears, tiny lamps, and ultra-thin glass, and so we can re-solder the occasional crooked part. Then we, their valued customers, muster the courage to unleash the airbrush and bring forth the paint!
Sounds cool, huh?
I'm in the mustering nerve phase.

Shayfan:
Take it from an old brass man: That "Mustering Nerve" phase can last a long, LONG time, LOL!
This one ran raw for 3 years. Sure matched all those PFE reefers for a while, though.
Since re-entering the hobby in 2001 I've acquired 15 brass locos and a brass railbus. All are vintage and still raw. I figure I'll finish all the track and operate them for a while. Once I'm sure I'm satisfied that they run the way they should, then I'll paint them.
I need to find a custom decal maker, too (I want white lettering and I don't have an Alps printer).
Does that sound like a rationalization?
How about posting a picture of yours in paint?
