Good afternoon ........heavy overcast, light showers just started from the storm approaching from the south, 46F. Could get an inch of rain before tomorrow. Today will be an inside day, I need the rest anyways after this weeks activities.
RT: So what's the word on the mortgage? Have your answer yet?
J.R.: No heavy rains here north of you, in didn't even start to sprinkle until 30 minutes ago. I think you guys are going to get the worst of it as well as Cape Cod and the islands. And you have more coming on Monday and again on Thursday...keep your sandbags handy!
RYAN: I thought we would be hearing about all the bad storms that hit NC last night!! All kinds of Tornado warnings, heavy rains, high winds......did you just miss this stuff?
FERGIE: Out to see on the Hudson again I see. 45 degrees North Latitude, -56w Longitude, approx. 180 miles off Nova Scotia. And you have two storms headed your way, the one that we are getting now will be off NS by Saturday afternoon, another one Tuesday into Wednesday for you and still another about Friday into Saturday up your way. What a time to be at sea!!!!!! And you think your going to get some MRR'g done??
Later,
Just got back from the doc and he says that my knee pain is from tendonitis from all the exercise I been doing. He said to take it easy this weekend and rest some, no arguments from me....

Yes, you are spot on Garry! He obtained a BS degree in Geology from SLU in Lafayette, LA then we moved to U of I for about 3 years or so, he has been retired for about 10 years now having worked for Texaco for 35+ years. He even has a fossel named after him by a college from some foreign nation. Can't remember from where however.
Good luck with the loan RT!
Howdy Jim, Fergie, Jerry, JR, PC, Rob, and Lee!
And a quick howdy to all the rest of you folks who come in unannounced......you know who you are!
Well, after bringing Paco to the vet, going to the doc myself, then getting some extra keys made at the hardware, and then to grocery shopping. I now have laundry going and still need to make a trip to the post office and then to Walgreen's to pick up my Rx the doc called in for my knee pain and exzema on my left hand.
Check in with you fellers later....

Good Morning All
Got some time freed up now that I'm out of the garden and out on the "High Seas" once again. Spent the better part of the morning looking at ice and weather charts and trying to find a link to a Greenland Ice Chart... Finally found the Danish site.
So Here we are approaching the Ice fields later today, in fog and at reduced speed. Fun Fun Fun!!!
Hope to get some Mr'ng in this trip but only if the weather and ice cooperates! (Hey Lee want to switch?)

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, how about some of Ed's OJ, a cup of coffee, scrambled eggs and toast - yep, the #2 Special. Thanks!
JR, nice car there (even if PC would want to paint it yellow or red )!
Jeff, I finally spotted that F unit - nice weathering on that, too. You do good great work, guy!
Supposed to have a bit of rain today, but not much. Ready for a drying out spell for a few days, at least. I'll ask the weatherman to send the rest of our rain for the next few days to BridgeTom in California, since they can use it.
Checked this morning, and my 'new' (used) laptop is on its way, should arrive next Wednesday. I feel like Hoople waiting for his Big Boy; Wednesday seems like way too far away for me. A good part of my impatience is the setup with the keyboard on my desktop PowerMac - not that great. I like the feel of the laptop that's coming. (It replaces the sickly/dead one like it that I already had - PowerBook 2000) This one that's coming is a 500 MHz instead of 400 MHz, so there'll be a little better speed on it. Yeah, that seems by comparison to the new systems with their 2 or 3 GHz processors, but I don't need some super-number-cruncher, so this will work fine until I get a new one later. But with the longevity of Macs, I may just buy another used PowerBook or MacBook by then and save my for MRR stuff.
Well, my eggs are here, so I'll be getting to them. RT, will be keeping you and the (first) mortgage in my today. Prayers for the rest in need of healing (of teeth and other body parts) and comfort. I'll check back later today.
Blessings and Prayers,

JR, great 7! Just don't see enough of those any more. Those things were always the little giants on the track. Loved watching them humiliate the corvette guys!
Good Morning All,
49F with rain, heavy at times. Glad I got most of the lawn done last evening before it got soaked. I'll have a coffee and a glazed donut please Zoe. Not much else to report at this point, gaining on my backload of jobs in the shop and the bench in the train room is nearly clean. I did fiddle a bit with windows for the buildings last night. I've been using X-ray film we were given or maybe it's just the protective sheets for the film. Either way I glue it on with the clear plastic cement from Testors (same stuff I use to make individual small windows) and it works well. I'm impressed with the clear cement as even if it flows or smears a bit, it dries clear without smudging or crazing the "glass". The film is nice as well with just a hint of green tint to it. Just cut with scissors or an Xacto and fit.
Thanks for the kind words about the Seven. At less than 900 lbs it is a blast to drive even with the 80 or so HP it has. The right hand drive and left hand shifter wasn't a problem figuring out either - guess it is so different from normal it was easy. We've owned the car for about twenty years now and are the third owners.
Well, time to get back to it. I'll try to drop back in around lunch time. CUL, J.R.

Rob I have said a prayer for your FIL and another that you will get those teeth taken care of soon. Man I do feel for you.
Not much doing today MRR wise. I got the far back yard partly mowed. The grass and weeds were almost knee high. John has the trim in the living room almost finished. I bought another router bit that finally made a trim piece that was near enough to the original that I was ok with it. I'd still have prefered to find a match but it was taking too long.
The wild life is getting bloder or more used to people around here also. Our neighbor saw mountain lion on her back patio a couple of years ago and someone killed one in the housing addition a couple of miles east of us. Another problemm that is coming out is there is no hunting going on anymore. We shut it down along time ago because of the proximity of the newbees. Today I don't even shoot to often because of all the people. I used to be able to shoot off the front poarch. The deer population is increasing with out the hunting. Of course the anti hunting people can't understand why they see so many deer killed on the roads.
I hadn't planned on getting this wordy.
Good Night All
Good Evening Diners!
I'd like a coffee and cinammon bun please Chloe. I just raked the front yard for 2 hours with a thatch rake so I think I earned it.
RT, good luck with the house, we're all rooting for you!
GMT, thanks for the photo of the Seven. Haven't seen even a photo of one for a long time. I bet you have a lot of fun with it.
Rob, As everyone else here has said, get that tooth fixed fast! I've had a root canal and in spite of all the terrible stories, I found it no big deal. Had a wisdom tooth out too and it was't bad either. I still have 3 and likely will till I croak as they aren't causing any problem.
Lee, sorry to hear about your back. My wife had a herniated disk a few years ago and it wasn't pleasant. She spent 2 weeks in bed as she couldn't move. It will pass though as eventually the fluid between the disk that pops out shrinks back and the pain goes away.
Ryan, I read your cooking blog and it certainly is well written and interesting too even for a guy who doesn't cook. I do like to eat though.
Well we're looking forward to a balmy 45 degrees here on Saturday and then it is supposed to shoot up to 50 on Sunday with a lovely north wind. Can't wait. At least it isn't snowing. A good excuse to stay in and do some more work on the scenery. It's coming slowly but I've never done it before so I guess I shouldn't be impatient.
It's bed time so I'll say goodnight all.

FIL is doing fine. Turned out to be a very minor seizure. He should return to his room (at the ALF) tomorrow. Whew!
***Tom, we feed our deer plants (well, they help themselves actually) around our cabin as well. Speaking of fox, we watched the red fox yet again with the binocs. We witnessed all his little holes between pastures and how he circles around our pond and then heads up to the barnyard. The horses (including the minis) don't even look up. He's been at this a while I suspect. Would sure like to know where her den is and take some pics of her pups. You're lucky to see those, Tom. So far, the thousands of acres around where we live are owned by 2 or 3 "family names" and none of them plan to sell. The timber company owns the rest, so I guess they could sell off tracts if the price was right. Hopefully not in our lifetime.
***JR, that's a cool Lotus 7 you've got there. Bet it's a blast to race.
***RT, crossing my fingers for you and that loan. And not to worry about the Diner Bill from me, it's too hard for me to chew food right now. I'll stick with room temp water for now.
Wife ordered me to double pain meds, and it seems to be doing the trick. Think I might finally be able to sleep now. Hope so. Good night! Rob
Gee looks like I'm going to have to take out a second mortgage befor I get the place seeing I won top of page honnors
Well guys cross your fingers for me and a few prayers might even help as my loan goes in front of the underwriters tomorrow for review and I should know either tomorrow evening or monday sometime wheather or not I get the loan for the house. ( first time home buyer so kinda scared about it lol. )
Not to much happening here as I just got done sending more info they needed.
Think I'll goto bed early tonight as I'm tired been staying up till 1 am for the past week getting things in order for this loan and back up around 8 am so I'm a little tered tonight

Dick--
I didn't see the article in my local paper, but if it happened out here in California or Nevada, I'm sorry to say that I'm not at all surprised. People are moving into areas that are displacing wildlife a great deal, and as the wildlife becomes used to humans in the territory, they're becoming a lot bolder. Unfortunately, a small child looks like prey to some of these predators that would otherwise take after smaller animals.
Just as an example--the property that I own up in the California Sierra foothills in Nevada City, was NEVER prone to wildlife incursions until people started moving up from the LA and Bay Area to build 'in the woods'. Now what used to be 'virgin' and natural areas above us on the ridge is honeycombed by new construction, and it's forced the wildlife down toward us. For the last four years, I've had a deer herd that invades my own property every spring and summer. Not that I mind--I don't like the taste of venison, never did. But oboy, do those big-eyed critters sure like ROSEBUSHES, LOL! And occasionally, a red fox and her kits streak across the front lawn--pets have to be kept strictly indoors. So far, I haven't had a cougar tracking the deer, but frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if it happens soon, simply because of people building on what used to be natural habitats of these animals. They're simply getting used to us because of the fact that they have nowhere else to GO! It's pretty tragic in one sense, and frankly, dangerous in another. I don't want to spend my summers carrying a 30.06 rifle to go from my mother's house across the lawn to the shop, but if we keep infringing on territory, it might get to that. This property has been in our family for over 100 years, it feels really weird to suddenly have to defend it from wildlife that 25 years ago you never saw.
End of rant. Sorry. But I really don't think that the coyote story is going to be the end of it.

Good Evening All,
Rob - we'll keep your FIL in our prayers.
Doing a bit more clean-up and taking it easy a bit. I need to do a realignment on the swing bridge as the lower level derails in one direction and the upper is still having issues on the bridge entry. nJust don't have the ambition to tackle it tonight
Did find this shot of my Lotus 7 at Summit Point for those of you curious as to what it looks like. Time to man the broom - I'll check in later. J.R.
***Jeffrey, well done with the dowsing stick shovel, tracking down that leak and all.
Wife received a call from the ER that her dad had another seizure. She is on the way there as I type. And this happens only days away from their move into the new facility. I feel so sorry for all involved. My wife thinks her mom pushes him too much when he should be taking it easy. I suspect she's right. Gurrrr!
Farrier came and continues to be impressed with the effect the shoes I made have had on Tinytoons legs. I reminded him that "his trimming skills have been just as important".
We're under a tornado watch right now, but it looks like the storms are losing strength. A light rain presently. Hoping for a downpour.
Well, going to go lay down for awhile. If you wish to, please say a prayer for my FIL.
Rob
Hello everybody ....
You may be interested that I posted picures of my friend's (gus) Alco S1 painted to be Cadiz RR #8. The shortline interchanged with IC before abandonment, and Gus models IC. I've been talking with a guy who has just what I want, but I'm trying to talk him down to the merely rediculous.
Spending the day on the sofa chanel surfing. If I had a layout built, I might be running trains to take my mind off this instead. Well, back to the sofa until the farrier arrives.
Good afternoon guys.....cloudy and rather humid here right now, but clearing is moving down from the North, but only until tonight. We have rain coming in for tomorrow in Saturday morning, a nice Mother's Day, then a Nor'easter for Monday into Tuesday, and yet another storm on Wednesday. The weathermen said if this had been March, we would be getting 3 feet of snow.
I TOO just got back from the dentist, quarterly cleaning, not what poor Rob went through.
Yesterday I got the '88 Wheel Horse all done with it's maintenance, new plugs, oil changed, air filter cleaned, greased, lubricated, battery cleaned, mower bed scraped and re-painted underneith, and the blades sharpened. The trakVac engine started first pull after sitting all Winter, however after running out of gas, it re-started for about 5 minutes then crapped out and would not restart. So I am headed out now to see if the gas line is clogged.
ROB: I feel for you buddy, that is NO WALK IN THE PARK !!! It won't go away, so you either have to try to save it with a root canal, or hank it. If it is a wisdom tooth, yank the sucker, don't waste your MRR $$.
PAUL: Why can't they understand that we "love" working hard in retirement? We get such a sense of accomplishment each day at supper time, not like when we were putting up with AH's at work. LOL
TOM: Did you see in the paper today and on Fox News where a little 2 year old girl was carried off by a Coyote? Her mother came out to see the animal dragging her off toward the road and gave chase causing the Coyote to run away. There're getting bolder.
JIM: Yes, we are getting those storms real soon. The reservoirs are at capacity, so I don't know where all the water is going to go. I took a trip to the Quabbin Reservoir this week, the water is pouring over the spillway. If you go online ( Google maps ) and open to Central Massachusetts, the huge lake in the central west part of the state is the Quabbin. It supplies water to the city of Boston and many surrounding towns via an underground aquaduct. It holds trillions of gallons of water. It was constructed in 1939 by flooding 4 towns in a valley where the Swift River flowed through.
Later guys,
Morning all--
Well, another balmy day here in SunnyCal, supposed to hit about 80 or so. But don't throw things my way, yet--we're actually facing a Drought situation here this summer, since we didn't get a very good snowpack in the Sierra (which we depend on for summer run-off). Which means Sorry, Los Angeles, you're going to have to find water for your swimming pools elsewhere, we need all of ours, up here. For our OWN swimming pools, LOL!
Actually, I don't know if its true or the Powers That Be are just hollering 'Wolf' again. Seems every time the Spring Runoff doesn't overpower the reservoirs around here, we're suddenly in a 'Drought' situation. Hard to tell. However, if not watering my lawn means more water for Artichoke farmers in the Salinas Valley, I'm all for it. Just LOVE Artichokes, yummy!
Well, still waiting for my Cripplebush 'Buttes' to arrive. Put in a pretty good days work on the MR yesterday, I'll be heading out there again today. It isn't taking ME long to get used to Retirement, LOL!
Rob--Those teeth sound bad. You've sure got MY sympathies--I don't think there's anything that will drive you bonkers as much as an infected tooth. Are they going to pull them or give you a Root Canal? Myself, having had a Root Canal, I'd tell the Oral Surgeon to just YANK the blasted things. I finally did. A Partial works just as well.
Lee--Found the ad in MR, thanks. They're the long-haul N&W style auxiliary tenders, but I saw a couple of cute little 'shorty' Vandys that Bachmann puts out. Might think about one of those for my 'other' 2-10-2. Since I'm DC, I have NO idea what 'DCC-ready' means, but it sounds like they're ready for a decoder of some kind.
Well, time to head to the garage and see if my ash-pit is dry (yah, I put ashes in it yesterday evening--well, kinda-sorta. WS 'fine' light ballast and cinders). See you all later.
