Speaking of photos, inch had another of his selected as one of the 8 railfan photos of the week over at TrainBoard. You can see his in this thread:

Ed - nice shots and report. At least you are able to photograph trains without being hassled about it. I suppose the grade level crossings will be missed, but won't the overpasses be almost as good for a lot of shots? To answer your question, yes we had a house fire and yes we're all ok. We'll be out of the house up to 6 months while repairs are made and we're still doing adjusting/cleaning. We have a rental provided by insurance for the duration and we'll be moving into that this week.
Inch - way to go with the feature shot in Flashes selection. Nice work.
Gotta run - I'm at the museum tonight just to get a break from the work/clean routine. CUL,J.R.
Good evening...clouds are rolling in, showers due late tonight and most of tomorrow, that is OK we need some rain, it's getting dry in the gardens.
GARRY: Yup, the Strawberry-Rhubarb pie is all ready, in fact, I had some for desert tonight with a scoop of ice cream on top. Here is what you can so Garry, I calculated two routes from Louisville, KT. The first is the quickest route, and you can make it to my door in 13 hours, 35 minutes doing the speed limits, 940 miles. The second route is the shortest route, 906 miles, but that will take you 15 hours and 34 minutes. The question is, will the pie be gone before you get here? If I keep my wife away from the pie, there will be enough for you if you leave NOW. LOL
However, DUKE loves this pie also, and he is only 671.7 miles from my house, and he can make it here in 10 hours 24 minutes, especially on his Harley.
MRR: Have any of you guys used QSI decoders? I am curious about your comments, what you liked , didn't like etc.
Later,
It's really amazing how the removal of the catarac in my right eye has helped my sight. Of course I can sence a shay at 1000 yds. Tell the guys down there that they are lucky to have saved that much. We lost both the C&NW and Milw Rd depots in Milwaukee to fires after they had stopped using them. Both would have been saved had they not been burned down. Both cases were due to indegents being in the buildings and trying to keep warm.
JR it sounds like things are moving along. be sure to check up on the workers regularly. You don't want to have colateral damage to you "toy trains."
Dick .... 940 miles, eh. And that's Louisville. I'm about 200 miles from Louisville. The distance from Paducah would be approximate. It'll have to be really good pie!
Everybody ......... plan ahead. Ham Festival will be October 10,11, 12. The painted 300 pound concrete pigs are already in place along Main Street. http://hamfestival.com/
Super great country food AND all sorts of activities! (No strawberry rhubbarb pie, however. Won't steal Dick's thunder)

Good Evening Diners!
Well I've had a rather frustrating time the past few days courtesy of Norton Security. I had a great week-end and thought I'd visit the diner on Sunday night but instead was greeted by a message from Norton that my security had expired. Not true according to an e-mail I got from them last Sept. when I signed up. Well after probably 3 hours trying to get my subscription code entered and including a half hour call with someone from a call centre in India(probably) I just shut down in frustration. Next day I uninstalled Norton except of course for the notification programme that Norton wouldn' let me uninstall. I have installed ZoneAlarm which I get free from my internet provider. I didn't use it before as it had "issues" but a recent review indicated major improvements were made last year and it was rated #2. So I installed it tonight. My computer seems faster but it could be my imagination.
Anyway, Ryan you asked where I sail my boat. It is on Lake Winnipeg moored in a town called Gimli. Gimili is the largest Icelandic community outside of Iceland so there are lots of fair people and also there is a fairly large commercial fishing operation based there. They mostly fish for Whitefish, Goldeye and Walleye (or Pickerel as we call them). Lake Winnipeg is a large lake, about 250 miles long and 30 to 60 miles wide. It is shallow so fearsome storms can brew up in a hurry.
I still have a day's worth of work to do on the boat before we can use it. I have to tune the standing rigging, bend on the mainsail and of course thoroughly clean the cabin.
It's clouding up here and looks like rain tonight. Sure has been a late spring. The ornamental crab in our back yard just blossomed this past week-end which is about 3 weeks later than normal.
Not much new on the model RR front. In fact I still haven't run the train I made up 2 weeks ago. I've been reading a series of booklets which feature great photos of steam power on the CPR out of Brandon, Man. There is a detailed narrative on each photo by the photographer who was in fact a fireman on the CP. While I'm a CN guy, I have to admit CP certainly had some distinctive looking engines that are really attractive. There was a brass Tenshodo built Royal Hudson in a LHS that luckily sold recently as I noticed a twitch in my hands whenever I looked at it.
Dick, you had mentioned the income trusts that are offered here as a good income earner. That is true but they will lose their tax exempt status in a couple of years so it won't last much longer.
Hope everyone is doing well,
CN Charlie

Well, hate to bring this up, but who saw Obama's victory speech?
OBAMA 08!!!
Evening Gang: I'm just stopping in for a bit of pop-corn and a diet Coke. I got the window A/C installed in the master bedroom. It is cooling well. We have been using window units for about 6 years now since that central A/C went belly up. Straingly enough the electric bill went down drasticly. We will get a new heating/cooling plant this year.
OPPS; I've got TOP so belly up boys, Popcorn for everyone.
I'm going to bed.
Good Night All

Hello everybody ....
Duke ... When are you headed to Dick's ? From here it must be about 1150 miles. Wow. Perhaps Dick can send some via air express. Pie in the sky so to speak.
CN Charlie..... Interest in your boat adventures. Lake Winnepeg mus be quite a nice lake! Here's our location: http://www.lbl.org/
Railroadnut ... I think the forum policies preclude political discussions, but since you mentioend it, the last speech (the one you mentioned) was full of more empty promises impossible to fulfill and false statements than any I've ever heard. It's a good idea to verify politicians' remarks before accepting them as valid.
Happy Model Railroading.
Good night all
see yous later

PC: maybe Mrs. PC needs more model rail road stuff, or maybe a subscription to MRR & Trains magazine, LOL
Well it seems only half of my rhubarb crop is coming up this year, looks like I need to start some seeds and re-plant. In past years a harvest of five, 5 gallon buckets was normal.
I found a minor glitch in my layout; insulated frogs! The smaller steam locomotives hesitate on two turnouts, anybody ever "un-insulate a frog before?

Good Morning All,
Moving day here as we're clear to occupy our temp rental - a nearly new 4bdrm a couple of miles away (ours was built in 1929). I'll have a regular and a donut to go please Zoe.
Lee - All my turnouts have insulated frogs and the only issues I've had were when they were less thn level (peaked in the middle). Unless you're running an 040 tank engine, the loco and tender should be enough to bridge the frog even on the long turnouts. If the tender isn't set to pick up power from the track you have a ready made weekend project.
Labored on the new O gage at the museum last night finished the ballast and then cleaned all the track down so far. We can't get the Lionel Thomas to run reliably (stalls just past the crossover and a couple of switches, but the SW-8 we have runs like a champ. I think it's to do with the third rail pickups and will have to disassemble and check the wiring again once I can make a space to do some hobby stuff.
Lots to do today so I've gotta run. I'll try to check in later. J.R.
Mornin' all!
Another stormy night here in Central Indiana! Thunderstorms, tons of rain, lightning galore, hail, and a few tornados just for good measure. Fortunately, no tornados around us this time though. The last one was too close! Forcast is for more of the same today. Flood warnings, flash flood warnings, tornado warnings..........yeah, it's a lovely day!
So whats up with you all?
LSWrr wrote: PC: maybe Mrs. PC needs more model rail road stuff, or maybe a subscription to MRR & Trains magazine, LOL
You know, we had a friend over last night who asked how the layout was coming, and I mentioned that it's not. My wife heard me say that and mentioned how we're going to have to fix that.
Mornin' podnas!
Seems like a heat wave settling in here for the week....it's summer already?
CN - thanks for the sailing location review! Sounds like a great place to catch some wind too!
How about some poached eggs for breakfast this morning Chloe!
I got my E6 Southern loco back from the shop with sound installed.
Catch you all later...

GMT,
You hit the nail on the head, friend of mine was running break in time on his 2 new 0-4-0 PRR locomotives and they hesitate at the frogs but keep going.
My Challenger has an issue with a code 95 curved turnout, looks like I might have to deepen the frog on it so the steering gear stops derailing.
I still have a few gremlins to work out. Some of the locomotives run clockwise with no problems and others will run counter clockwise with no problems. I need to get all the locomotives to run in both directions with no problems and we are all good.

Again, thanks for the thoughts prayers and well wishes. This is definately my last time in here till mid August as I have to finish packing my carry-on bag and then get ready to go report in for the trip.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
Good morning, raining here this morning and it looks like a good part of the day. Nothing heavy, just an off and on light rain that is great for the lawn and gardens. Good day for some MRR work inside.
CNCHARLIE: That is not a done deal yet with tax status on the Royalties. When your new Prime Minister pushed that suggestion for 2012 to take effect, he started a war in the investment community, so much so, that a new political party will probably get elected in Canada. This is far from a done deal. The companies NEED the investment money and they will fight this tooth and nail
GARRY: Pie in the sky !!! Nice ...I hear you are in consideration to take Jay Leno's jon next year .. LOL
PAUL: Is it true that you go around the ranch now singing your new theme song, " I can see clearly now............." LOL Seriously, that is really great news, but make sure you wear sun glasses every day when your out there in that bright sunlight...UVA and UVB wreak havoc on our eyes.
ED: Key Lime pie......I love that pie !!!! You are so lucky to have fresh limes in your orchard, not to mention oranges and mangos.
Later, have to run
Morning all:
Cool and breezy here in SunnyCal--partly cloudy with highs in the upper '70's for today. Nice and breathable out this morning--believe me, at this time of year, it's a RARITY here in Sacramento.
Glad I'm retired--CalTrans is tearing up Interstate 5, which runs north and south through the city, and all of the traffic has been detoured to surface streets. Let's just say it's a major MESS, and it's going to be that way until about the end of June. I'm not going downtown for ANYTHING, for quite a while. Well, Sunday Mass, but I know how to get there without using the freeways. Of course now, EVERYBODY will have discovered how to get around town by not using freeways, so I'll probably have to leave an hour earlier to get there by 11:00 this Sunday. But for any of you familiar with the Sacramento area, it's gotten sort of like LA--a whole bunch of suburbs looking for a downtown.
Well, the New Kid on the Block is running--a little 'grindy', but smoothing out. I've got to do some work on the articulated drive between the drivers sets--PFM has a very weird setup, and the original connection was pretty old--I don't think this baby has actually ever been run since 1970 or so--so I had to replace it. I think I just need to work it in a while. But the big lady doesn't like one of my yard leads, so I've got to tinker with that a little bit. Anyhow, here's a picture of her fresh from the paint shop:
Got to do a little 'touching up' here and there, but I think she turned out pretty nice. BTW, that big, hunkin' Challenger in the background is a Westside Rio Grande L-105 that is just a MONSTER puller and built like a Sherman Tank.
See? Not EVERYTHING I run is a Yellowstone, LOL!
Well, hopefully my Topside Creeper might arrive today so that I can get to work on the Buttes. Boy, retirement sure is BUSY!
Best to all, and prayers to those in need.
Tom

G'Morning, Zoe - how about some scrambled eggs and bacon, please (although Ryan's poached eggs look tempting)?
and a cup of coffee in a Rio Grande mug.
Thanks.
JP, hope you have plenty of MR's and Kalmbach mags to read during your 'free' time in the sandbox. Do they provide you good sunblock, I hope? And what the others said on keeping you in our thoughts and .
Garry, sent you an email. It's good that your church offers a financial course. I have heard that more schools are covering finances some. Any additional teaching on finances should be better than the 'none' that was the pattern over the past several decades. No wonder we have the credit and loans problems nowadays. People don't (I know I didn't) intuitively know about finances if they aren't taught it - in the home or somewhere else. Some of us were more fortunate in being taught how to make and use a spending plan/budget, but many out there apparently weren't. Jeff's right that it isn't rocket science, but we need to be taught how first - then it's not hard.(Okay, end of soapbox).
Actually, Garry, it might be a shorter trip to Lee's, if he has a good recipe for that pie...
On our weather this morning, it was looking like Inch and Jerry might've got some t-boomers move through their area. I think north of us got some rain and had warnings, but nothing going on right now here.
Now Shockwave, if you get too flowery, we might not understand what you're saying, y'know...
Ed, I'll need to go look at your write-up of the new train service. Of course, I'm looking forward to the railfanning stuff, too. Good to hear that they're improving their passenger service someplace. That Shay looks in suprisingly good shape (in the photo, anyway).
Railnut, not to worry, we just don't want to start a flame war between/amongst various factions and burn down the Diner, y'know.
Paul, that sounds good on your vision now - take good care of those peepers!
Tom, that's a great 'little' locomotive you have there - of course, I kind of like the RR line. Good luck with your drive to Sunday Mass now. It might not be too bad, depending on how many of the parishioners live on your side of town and are affected by the freeway work. St. Louis has some of that 'always working on it' deal with I-270, but they can't really get the thing closed so they just close down some of the lanes (since 270 has traffic almost all the time, between factory shifts changing and commuters and all). Another reason I'm glad I don't live in a big city anymore...[whew!]
Pretty good morning today - phone calls mostly, and one walk-in client who left by the time they pulled her chart and I got it and came up front. Guess she was in too big of a hurry for something. Go figure. Then this afternoon, I have CPR training again, which usually doesn't take the whole afternoon, so I might get to leave early.
Best get going - another client is in that I talked with on the phone. Glad I ate my eggs and bacon while I was posting.
Blessings on your Wednesday,
Jim in Cape Girardeau

I received my package from Don Z today. They have a run through the barn ahead of them for Kadee couplers, some weight and some weathering. Metal wheels will be applied as I get them.
