Evening Gang,
Chloe, I think I deserve a double chocolate shake tonight. Please & Thanks.
We spent the last couple of days at the lake and got home this afternoon at 5:00pm, there was a call waiting for me that I had to be at work at 6:30pm so here I am.
Sounds like most of our buddies here made it through those darn storms. Sure hope that is right. Anyone aware of any damage that our diner crew endured ??
Jeff; You get those feet healed up so you can chase those "cajun cutiies" and maybe even catch one.........I think we are all a go for a batchelor party.
Ed & Fran; We are all very glad to hear from you. There definately was some concern. Sounds like you have been having some fun though. looking forward to hearing some tales of your adventures. Send OJ............
CN Charlie; Great to hear the launching went so well and that "Miss Helga" looks sea worthy. Good luck with the Vet as well. We had a German Shepard back in the 80s that had an eye desease and we had wonderful luck with the Uof Sask Vet College. They did a surgerry free operation by using liquid nitrogen on the cornea. It froze the growths but not the eyeball and in ten days the growths then fell off on their own and our Daisey was like a new pup discovering all the things that she had missed seeing for a couple of years.
Jerry, Hope you and Sallie get lots of good weather this summer to get out and about, keep the speed down, we don't want to hear that you are both in the "Crowbar" hotel.
Tom W; Are you trying to corner the market those Yellowstones?. Remember that entry from that fellow in Europe awhile back. I could hardly believe the number he had. Can't recall his name right now.
RT; So tell us, how is the job and of course the new house ?? Have you figured out where the railroad is going to go yet? Hope it is all impressing you, the community as well.
Well the pressure is on here now so must go. Will try to get back on in the morning.

Hello everyone ...
Just now back from Nashville. Regarding my appointments at the heart clinic on Friday and today ......... I have nothing but good news.... Looks like I can stick around and bother you diners some more......... Somebody has to pay for those vast quantities of RBF's that JomCG consumes!
Jeff and Terry.... Thanks for sharing your health issues. We care about you and are praying for your health.
Happy MRR'ing!

Evening, Diners, Chloe! Chloe, a cup of decaf and a hot fudge sundae, please. Thanks.
to the Diner, C&O Terry, and we'll keep your treatments (and you, of course) in our On your signature image, I don't think they can use Flash videos in signatures, just still images. But I could be wrong on that...
Jeff, another good photo of your park - will you be getting some pigeons to sit on a statue in the park? Better listen to what your doc tells you and take good care of the feet so they finish healing up soon.
So, BridgeTom - does that mean you were watching the paint dry today? Good to see you're keeping yourself busy with retirement.
RailroadNut, sounds like you were aiding and abetting an adult's consumption of alcohol, huh? Good to hear you weren't starting too early. No rush... I think it's good that you were responsible enought to do a good job with planning the party.
Dick, this is more basic than investments, and it'll consist of five lessons I have to prepare from materials and give for the Sunday small group at church. More aimed at those trying to get from payday to payday with some left over to put into savings... I read your signature line about making mistakes, remember.

Hey, hey, Garry! - I only had three yesterday... Good to hear your ticker is working fine. Keep up whatever your doctor is telling you, too.
Well, after taking my roundhouse kit to the MRR club tonight and talking with a couple of the guys, it turns out my kit is made for narrow gauge locos, and is probably too short on the walls and likely too narrow on the openings facing the turntable. So I will likely need to make some additional plaster parts (base/foundation to raise the roof some, and pieces to widen the openings for the locos to come in). Ah, well... Hey, at least the walls are made of plaster - I can probably (with enough time and plaster) carve pieces for what I'll need. Tom, you want another project to keep you busy?
I think I'll got read my new MR issue for now...
Blessings, healing, and a good evening for all,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Evening Gang:
Lee are you in on the collision on the Cuyahoga river between the steamer Cuyahoga and the two boats tied up to the dock. From what I hear there is a fuel and oil spill from the boat that sank. When a 605 ft freater hits a small pleasure boat gues which one wins. Of course the Capt of the Cuyahoga will have some explaining to do.
Nothing in the MRRing field today. I did check the Caboose Hobbies sight for the D&IR Mikado. No luck. They have a bunch of DM&IR 2-10-2s and 2-10-4s and one Yellowstone for $1000 +. I'd like to grab that Yellowstone before Tom gets it but Mary Ann would not be happy.
We will be heading for New Mexico in a couple of days. We're going there for our daughter receiving her masters degree in education. Then we're loading everone up and there stuff and heading back here. They will be living with us untill they can find a place of there own. Her husband Rob has just retired from the Air Force and will be looking for a job and she will be looking for a teaching job. As she said "Here come family fun days." It will be good to see the grand kids with out having to drive 600 miles.
Jeff good news on the foot. now if the other one will cooperate that would be nice.
Well it's bed time. Daisy the Dog is already in hers.
Good Night All.
Evening folks-my usual in the "Donkey" mug please.
Well, I neglected to cover things the other night when I got top of the page yet again, so everything's on me tonite. I meant to stop in Sunday night, but it ended up getting too late.
Semi-progressive day on the yardwork Sunday. We have a sharp hillside in front, & we've been redoing things so we don't have to cut the grass on it-we've been basically digging things out so we can plant flowers & various. It's a very slow process, as the hill angle doesn't make things easy for digging the grass/topsoil out.
Flashwave-good eye! yeah, the addy plaque Chessie "based" somewhat. I tried to not get too overly detailed as I needed to keep in mind as what purpose it serves.
Cape Jim-it's based on a CSX GP38-2 unit I caught a perfect side-on profile of last year:
http://donkey.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=897337
(had it hyperlinked, but when you clicked on it, it takes you to the trains.com general site for some reason so I took the direct link off)
Anyways, I did a rough pencil outline & went with it. As to the "doorbell", I don't want anything loud, just "unique!" Wouldn't be a bad idea if someone came up with a doorbell that you could hook mp3 or wav.files into somehow. My next idea (won't be soon though) is since I'm a Railbox nut, our mailbox could use some modification.
Well, I'd better hit it-Nite All!

Good Morning All,
I'll have a regular and a donut please. Another nice day today - temps to be in the mid 70's to low 80's and the sun is out. May get some rain tomorrow.
JP - good luck and may God be with you and your buddies on your tour. Try to drop in when time and circumstance permits. If there's stuff you or your troop need, let us know and we can see what can be done.
Ed - Good to see you back around. Will we get to see pics of the latest travels?
Spent yesterday morning going through the pile thrown out the windows from my sons bedroom and the attic. Every bit of team gear, t-shirt collection, jackets, built up models and a spare drum set from the attic. In other words, stuff that isn't used daily. My son was not so lucky but it looks like insurance will replace just about all he lost. He will have to reconstruct his room (list the notable items). we found my middle sons diploma, some yearbooks and other documents that survived and that was good. So far the insurance company is doing what it said and there are no hassles. We get to move to the temporary house this week and are looking forward to that - we got the papers signed yesterday. It'll be a long process and we're still cleaning/emptying the house but, we're making progress.
Lots to do again today so I'd best get after it. Catch y'all later. J.R.
Good morning all,
Paul, as luck would have it I'm on leave this week so I'm missing out on all the fun and excitement in the office. Here is the local news story: http://www.myfoxcleveland.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=6674733&version=4&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.1.1
This is the sister of the two ships that had an allusion with the sea wall earlier this spring.
Had a 8 hour operating session yesterday on the L.S.&W. Dale and Alex came over. Dale is rebuilding some older locomotives and needed a 75' main to complete break in hours on 4 locomotives. I worked on cleaning the mains and applying the Rail-zip metal preservative using a centerline track cleaning car.
Sorry, I've been a stranger to the diner the last 30 days or so. I've had to attend 6 funerals and trying to get the uninspected passenger vessels "voluntary inspections" completed for the season. Since summer took its good old time getting here we had a major back up in completing these.

Mornin' all!Just gettin' in to work and settling down. Got a full day ahead, and an even more full evening. You see, today is my son's birthday! And then, day after tomorrow is my wife's birthday! I already got the boy something. Now I've got to work on the wife.
More prayers for Terry and all those in need of some Divine help.
JR, I look forward to life returning to normal for you.I'll check ya later!
Good morning...70F here this morning at 9am, PC skies, 53% RH, DP of 51F, getting a little humid.
TERRY: Prayers and God's helping hand to you buddy.....keep your spirits high.
J.R. : How long do you think it will be before you get back to your rebuilt home?
JIM: It is getting harder and harder for many Americans to save anything these days. But you have to start somewhere, and the best place is knowing where your money is going each week. A simple, accurate budget is the best place to start. Income, Expenses, and hopefully a little bit left over to save in some investment. If they can save any money at all, no matter how small, it is best to purchase company stocks that pay dividends, then re-invest the dividends. Some companies pay MONTHLY dividends, especially Canadian Royalty Oil and Gas Trusts, such as ERF and HTE, yielding over 9% and as high as 15% which beat the h** out of lousy CD's and bank savings accounts at 2.5%.
See you guys at lunch,

Oh no. My dad planned the party, along with two other guys.
However, since rsvp's were sent to our house, I checked the mail everyday and marked everyone who was and wasn't coming.
People!
Ya, one of those days. Ma Mouse quit working. I went to train club last night, it worked up til then, now it has a short or something. So I;m using a laptop style mouse. Cute little thing.
Lasty night was open run. I did a quick round with the T1, switched cars with a Harbor Belt 0-8-0 until it died, then took over with my Shark A and D units. You'da thought I's have used the camera I brought. Maybe I'm still stressing with the B&O vids. Love computers.
Hey, to our Eastern Friends, Thar's rain a cummin'. I just inspected it myself. It's the true blue wetstuff. There's some free light and a hearing test kit coming in the package as well.
Ya, one of those days.
Good afternoon all.

Morning all:
Well, one of those Alaskan systems is dipping down around these parts, so the temperature's dropped and we're supposed to have partly cloudy skies here in the Valley, with rain and possibly more snow in the Sierra, this afternoon. A VERY odd Spring around here--but anything that will help our water table is much appreciated. I understand the eastern portion of the country is due for some rain, too. Hope it doesn't lead to another siege of flooding and tornadoes, though.
Johnboy: Actually, I've relaxed on Yellowstones, LOL! My latest acqusition from Caboose Hobbies is a Rio Grande 2-8-8-2, now sitting on the kitchen table waiting for its new paint job to cure. Cute little feller--an early PFM run that weighs about five pounds or so. Runs right nicely. I'll post a photo next weekend for WPF.
Garry: Glad the Dr. appointment went well. And yes, we ALL want to keep you around for a long, long time. Every time I look at that Burlington obs of yours I get just a little more 'brave' about thinking on kit-bashing that Rio Grande dome-obs. If I do, it's ALL your fault, LOL!
Jim: Yup, spent yesterday watching paint dry. Creeper didn't arrive, so my 'new' 2-8-8-2 spent yesterday in pieces getting painted and decalled. Question--why do Japanese screws dislike American screwdrivers so much?
Paul: Didn't mean to mislead you--coulda SWORN I saw some Missabe Mikes at Caboose, but that was a couple of weeks ago. And no, I'm NOT going for that $1000+ Yellowstone, LOL! Dang, I've certainly developed a REPUTATION around here for those babies, haven't I?
Jeff: Take care of that foot. Is it a bunion or perhaps a bone-spur? Those things HURT!! How's the park coming along--any new photos?
Terry: Best wishes and prayers on the treatment today. Is it the first of the radiation treatments?
Flashwave: Look out for those laptop mice--my Maine Coon cat Spooky likes them almost as much as she does cabeese, LOL! And yes, I'm STILL thinking about that turntable, you Evil Person, you. Seems Bruce has a Walthers 120-footer down at his shop that needs to be adopted. Grr! I just have to measure the aisle width by the loco facilities. Your idea will work perfectly if the turntable isn't too wide. And of course, I NEED that 120 length for my Yellowstones--
Well, got to feed the cats (Spooky's in front of the monitor right now staring at me), then go out and test run the new articulated in her new paint job. Remember, guys, you cannot have TOO many articulateds! That's my new Mantra.
Best to all--sincere prayers to those in need.

Good Morning, Zoe. I'll have a JR regular and chocolate donut, please.
Thanks!
Speaking of you, JR - good to hear that you will have a place to get moved into. Do remember to have one of those places that 'de-smokifies' your stuff (or as much as possible). Best wishes and on things continuing to start smoothing out for you and the family.
C&O Terry, the prayers will continue, and we'll do our best on the having fun part...
PC, to your son, and hope he has great fun today. Better get going on your wife's present, though. Hope it's a great day for her as well.
Lee, sorry to learn of all the funerals you've had lately to attend. Good to hear you're getting some MRR time in since then, though. Sounds like a good long running session.
Flashwave, from that weather description, I'm sure your English teacher would be proud of ya... Cute! Bet the local weather guessers couldn't put it any better than that.
Thanks for the tip, Dick. BTW, would a person have to pay any special taxes on 'foreign-held' investments like that? I'm pretty unknowledgeable about stocks, bonds, or investments. This series I'll be leading will be a pretty basic financial course, starting with the obvious (which is rarely covered in school now and mostly wasn't covered when I went through school):
1) Income cannot exceed Outflow. (This law is violated at your own personal risk.)
2) Any cash left over (Income - Outflow) should go into savings/investments.
3) All the wishing in the world will not change rule #1.
Of course, I think too many of our state and national governmental officials haven't learned the above rules, but that's just my personal opinion...
Back to MRR'ing - can any of you Diners recommend an affordable (i.e., forget anything brass!) Mikado (USRA or other semi-generic) in HO scale? I asked one guy at MRR club last night and he said if I could find an Athearn Genesis on an auction site or a LHS that had one left, it might be under $100 (and would be easy to later upgrade when I go to DCC). Any suggestions, fellow Diners? (and I would like believable, but not rivet-counting-level, appearance. (No Eastern-style, in other words, since my layout is set in the Southwest)
We're supposed to have isolated thundershowers today and hit the low 90's, too. Oh, goody! Think I'll be at the window booth, enjoying the better view here.
Blessings,

Chaos, mayhem, my work here is done. Time to watch people reap.
Fortunately, we have no (living) pets. And at least maybe you can convince Jason to help wire the bad boy up. Any new model railroader could use a lot of help in how to wire up a turntable. Myself included.
Jim: Thanks, I try.
DUDE LOOKING FOR A MIKE: IHC's gold series has some, on sale at Walthers for 109. No sound, but if you can find a sound decoder, poof.
Just in here for a quick lunch and then back outside...plenty to do these days.
JIM: Yes, there is a Canadian tax, but that gets taken out automatically for you, so no paperwork to deal with. Use any investment house that you like. Fidelity and Schwab are two large houses, I do not use any investor to do my investing, only to answer questions about the website and computer services from time to time.
I wish all school would teach the young people today how to handle money, check books, basic finance.

Thanks Tom...... I have pix of kitbashing Silver Fountain in progress. Also, I have a kitbashed Silver Chateau, a Denver Zephyr blunt end dome observation. It was more like kit "smashing" becasue it was an early attempt at kitbashing and the learning curve was in early stages. My next observation will be the Twin City Zephyr dome observation, but I don't know when I'll start that. I'm focussing on expanding layout now.

I'm just getting started as instructor of a church sponsored class on personal finances for people who have mis-managed their finances. Wow. people really do mess up.
Also, high schools should teach basic macro- and micro- economics. Now, it's so easy for politicians to fool the voters with their absurd claims. Enough of that.
Whre's the strawberry rhubbarb pie?
Happy Model railroading.

Mine does. She wan't very good...
The problem is that it's hard to unteach "gullibility". Small or large ecoomics only goes so far in a school. And I coukld say a few things about me and peers.

I've seen high school graduates that can't keep track of their checking accounts, and it's so easy!
Good afternoon coffee clubbers,
No big news from down south. I am enjoying the limeade made with the limes from the grove. And Fran has promised to make another Key Lime pie tomorrow, when we finish the flan she made yesterday. Sounds okay to me. Btw, the FCVN is still shipping "virtual oj" up to the Diner.
Dick: Is that 1st of the season TS going to hit your town? It sure looks like the rain shield will.
Part of our trip to Mexico City last week gave us time to ride on the brand new "Tren Suburbano" during it's last week of trial runs. I shot some photos and did a write up over on TrainBoard. You can see it here:
http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=98893
While it's not the classic long distance passenger trains of yesteryear, at least it's new passenger service.
I still haven't edited any shots from the railfanning portion of the trip, nor written any play-by-play. Stay tuned. Maybe later this week.
JR - ouch, am I reading your post right? Did you guys have a fire in the house? At least my take based on what you just wrote is that the house is repairable and that no one was hurt. Sorry to hear about that.
Ed
Afternoon gang -
Just over 23 hours to go before my 65 days +/- work week begins. On a serious note, thanks to all of you for the prayers and well wishes. I'm going with a good group of co-workers this time out and we're all looking forward to making the best of this trip, eventhough there's not much we can do during our freetime.
If I don't make it in tomorrow, enjoy the summer!
Take care!

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010
I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017
JP, Until we see you in person back in the Diner, you and your buddies will be in our prayers and thoughts.
We are very thankful for the dedicated young men and women of the American and Canadian forces who so willingly serve their countries and give us the protection and freedom that we treasure so highly.
My hat is off to your crew. God speed JP.
