Afternoon folks!

Tom, Bryan sure did get a great education and he was accepted to attend LSU, he will be going to freshman orientation on June 9th and will start up full time in the fall.

Yup, Hawaii  Cool [8D] Garry! And we didn't want to come back either...Big Smile [:D]

Duke, nice to see you in the diner and thoughts continue your way. Angel [angel]

Dick, Bryan has been working at Semolina which is a local SE Louisiana pasta restaurant chain and still plans to work odd jobs while attending LSU in the fall. He is going to study Political Science and the wants to attend pre-law after that...

J.R. sounds like progress on the cause of the fire, but tedious at best!

Mike, good one! LOL

Good afternoon to all.....sunny here today and a cool dry 60F. Todays work calls for cutting the grass in the blueberry garden, planting the rest of the veggie garden, and then some MRR action.

I just signed my contract for heating oil ( the Northeast is the biggest user of #2 oil for running heating systems in homes and buildings ). The cost last year was $2.64 a gallon, this year.............$3.94 a gallon. Guess how much wood I will be burning this year guys!! Cut another cord honey while I cut another oak tree. And for you guys heating with Propane or Natural gas....wait until you see what your rates will be next season.

GARRY: Right ON !!! I only wish more Americans understood "where" the real problem lies, so many people are so ignorant of the real facts. I heard one guy at the local station giving the poor owner a ration of s*** because the prices went up again yesterday to $3.98 for 87 octane. Another example of dumb people who are clueless as to the real cause.

FLASHWAVE:  Soooooo your name is "Morgan" ?????? LOL.....I was referring to Morgan horses which were first bred in New England as both a work horse and a riding horse. It would be perfect solution for getting around town on short trips. I never thought that water troughs and hitching posts would ever be back in use...now I'm not so sure. Three more people in our town have bought horses to add to those already here.

J.R.: I feel so badly for you J.R., at this point in your life, you certainly don't need this aggravation. Are all your cloths OK? Do you need any shirts, pants etc.? I have more than I need, I am 5'-9" 28 leg, 36" waist, and for shirts, medium 15 1/2" neck.

DUKE: How are things going for you, prayers for your mother, she is very happy now , but I know that you know that.

DER JOHN: Have things improved up on the Cabot Trail this week weatherwise? Get the rain barrels out !!!

FERGIE: Bergs to the left, bergs to the left.....full steam ahead !!!!

PAUL: How is the eye surgery progressing? Did you have laser work done?

So, the big push this summer is to have people stay near home and save gas. How many of you guys are planning to stay near home? I know we are. The furthest we are travelling is to the coast of Maine, 1 1/2 hour ride away, and to the local HS each month in Warren, 1/2 hour ride.

Later, time to get back outside, see you guys for happy hour at 5...Smile [:)]

Mornin an irish coffee please Zoe, it be a tad chilly here

Cloudy skies will be around this morning before sunny skies move in this afternoon. Northeast winds will keep it feeling a little bit cool today with daytime highs still below average topping out in the upper 60's. Mostly clear skies stick around tonight with temperatures dropping back down into the mid 40's. Thursday and Friday see warmer temperatures in the upper 70's near 80° with gusty south winds and plenty of sunshine. Scattered rain and thunderstorms move in Friday evening and last through the day on Saturday.

How's bout a joke for the day

The golf course was haunted by a malicious, evil leprechaun who exploited the ambitions of the poorer players. He popped up beside one unfortunate man who was participating in a club competition.
"Look," he said, "if you agree never to court a woman, flirt with a girl or marry, I'll help you win."
"Done," shouted the young golfer. The leprechaun was very pleased with conniving ways, and chuckled merrily.

When the golfer was in the clubhouse being praised by the other members, the leprechaun popped up on the shelf of the locker. "Hey," said the little elf, "I have to have your name for my records. What is it?"
"Father Murphy," grinned the golfer as he adjusted his Roman collar.

Morning all!

And a fine morning it is too!  Central Indiana couldn't be prettier this morning!  Check out the tower cam shot of downtown Indianapolis this morning.

Supposed to be a little cool today, only 68 degrees, but thats OK.  NO RAIN for a change!  Seems strange, but last year at this time we were a month into that nasty drought, and this year we're above normal rainfall.  Weather is a goofy thing, huh?

Hey Rob,........how about luminous paint.  Then you just have to wait for nightfall to find the shoes! Big Smile [:D] (And no demeaning colors for tiny toons!)

Oh well, I'm outta here!

Later!

Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular and some Cherrios please, and some fresh blueberries to put on top. Some progress on the house - we're now dealing with an army of adjustors, structural, contents, cause and effect, additional living expenses, and the uber adjustor along with the fire marshall and building inspector. The fire investigation seems to be coming down to either my sons' smoking or an electrical fault in his computer surge protector. It'll be tough if it points to my son but we'll have to live with that.

The electricity is turned back on save for the upper floor so we can start cleaning out the house. We haven't spoken to the contents adjustor yet, but it looks like the entire master bedroom and laundry room will be a write off along with the hallway and my sons room. The word on the upstairs bathroom isn't back yet but we hope to save at least the fixtures. One of the problems is the acrid smoke from the lifetime collection of plastic car models and slot car stuff that was stored in boxes in the attic all  of which went up in flames. plastic smoke is really nasty stuff and the cocsensus is the smoke smell won't come out so the walls and ceilings will have to come out. That's about all I know for now with more adjustors yet to go.

    Catch y'all later.  J.R.

No I wouldn't and it's obvious you had a major impact on their lives. They won't be retiring from the memories either.

Oh, and I'm picturing "Fast" and "The High trestle of Doom" with hilaroius, though followed by colorful, results.

Hello everybody.   I'll have a vanilla malt please. MMMMMMMMM ... good stuff!

Dick ... That's true about fuel prices. Traders are running up prices. They have the commodity reports on Bloomberg TV. (I watch it for news on stocks). I don't like hearing about "bullish" dasy on the commodity exchanges.  They are international, fee market exchanges, and it's not something the government can easily regulate. India, did, however, outlaw food futures contracts within India. i'm not sure how that ended up. It's better too late than never for AK North Slope, Florida off-shore drilling, and oil shale development. Other countries do process oil shale for fuel, and we should do that. The long term failure of Congress was to build highwys over the decades while blocking production of domestic fuel. You can yell at the Congressmen along with the commodity traders.

Paul .... I'm glad your eye doctor appointments are going well.

CN Charlie ... Keep us informed about the boat launch. you asked if you were getting old. Nah.. that doesn't happen does it.

Rob: Pink shoes. Creative. Flashware has some thoughts, too.

Tom ..... I was reading a wondeful story about your students stopping by. That's terrific. It was believable until you said you had no derailemnts. TOM! .....Whistling [:-^]  (kidding, Tom, just kidding) ... Great story. Really.

Happy MRR'ing!

Good Eveing Diners

Just got back from another trip to the garden centre and I doubt it will be the last. Mind you I can't really complain as my wife does a wonderful job on the yard to the point where we have often been asked why we don't enter it into the local landscaping competition.

Jeff, I second Johnboy's request for a couple of RV parking spots in your park. Have some sympathy for your northern neighbours freezing through fall, winter and spring! Why we would be happy to do guard duty on the K4 until it gets a fence. You did a great job and I think it is a very clever way to hide the access hatch.

JR, Sorry to hear about all your fire troubles but it sounds like the clean-up is well underway. These fire restoration companies can do a great job and in some cases make it better than it was.

It doesn't sound like Fergie is having much fun out there on the briny. Gales and ice- happy summer indeed.

Well the boat launch is now scheduled for Saturday. At least it is supposed to be warm. I'll be glad when it is done as I must admit I really don't like either launch or pull out. Maybe it's swinging 3 tons of boat on a couple of webbing straps and then having to get a 35 ft. aluminum pole vertical without it going over the side. It can be stressful. I think I'd rather install a decoder. Perhaps I'm getting old.

Time to get ready for tomorrow. What happened to today? I blinked and it's gone.

Evening Gang: Not much going on today. The visit to the doctor went well. I'll visit him again in 4 weeks. He said that if everything looks good I can have the other eye done shortly after that. Untill then I have another eye drop to add to the list to do every day. Actually it gets confusing. One drop is 3 times a day for 1 week then 2 times a day for another week and tehn 1 per day for a week. Another is 4 times a day untill the 3 bottles run out. The third is 4 times a day for 2 weeks. Anybody got a score card?

We got a little better then an inch of rain here this afternoon. Right now we are under a TS warning for the evening. The rain was good but I arrived back at home just as it was getting heavy. Of course I got soaked getting to the house.

Well I have to get back to work on cleaning.

Good evening, a hot one here today and very humid. TS's went north and south of us, all we received was 0.07" of rain, and now the weather is going to be sunny until Saturday, so we are still somewhat dry here in our town.

I want to thank all you guys for your kind words regarding my uncle, he was the last of many uncles that I had.

With the temp in the 80's today, it was time to get the pool filter going. I realized that I had never taken the filter apart and hosed off the elements, so after reading the manual, I had it cleaned and back together in an hour, and surprisingly it was not in bad shape at after 10 years, these Hayward DE Filters are really made well.

FERGIE: Tell Lisa that not everywhere on the East coast are people in wadders. We haven't had much rain here in central MA like up north in Maine, they had serious flooding in Fort Kent and Caribou a couple of weeks ago.

CN CHARLIE: I hope your pet makes it through the Summer, at least it will give you the chance to have one more Summer of friendship with your pet......it is very hard to say goodbye, my wife still doesn't want another cat or dog after we lost ours two years ago, it was too hard after 16 years.

RYAN: Give your son a congrats from us, where does he plan to seek employment?

DER JOHN: $5.15 for gas in your neck of the woods??? WOW !!!  I hear that the Amish are selling buggies that they make, and at a fair price too. Of course the HP is up to you. I think a Morgan would be a nice choice.

J.R. : How are things coming with the house repairs, and word on how it started?

ROB: The Democrats have held up drilling on the north slope for years. They are concerned about the animals ( no one else lives near this location ). I have seen the Caribou with my own eyes when I was in AK back in 2001, crossing under the oil pipeline like it was just a fallen log. They feed and breed right next to drill rigs in PB and it doesn't bother them one bit. Here is the kicker....even if they gave the Ok TODAY, we would not see any oil from that site for 10 years!!!! That is how long it will take. Now what do you think we will have for motive power fuel in 10 years from now? N2, Electric, Water, CA,??

JEFF: It is sad to see that nice steamer sitting in the park, however, the age of Diesel is indeed here.

Good afternoon ladies and gents.

I've been having good days for awhile now. Found my bike helmet, so I took my bike out for a spin and such.

Jeff: That K4 is looking much better!

Rob: That show is pretty good. New episode of the 4th season is on tonight at 9 PM on the Discovery Channel

Jim: Actually alot of things. I fixed that switch by just taking it out and putting in some 22"s in it's place. Next is more fun. Friday, I decided to make a tree. Then more. Now I have 7. 5 pine, the others just maple or something like that. Woodland scenics is a blessing. To go with my trees, I added some grass last night and a couple of minutes ago. Now I have a pretty well sceniced little area. Once I get my backdrop, I'll go to town in the town, then make the big push for the other side, known as the Denver Dived or the Stormont Hill.

That's it for now.

Evening gang!

Just a quick stop in before I go get some dinner.

I leave a week from tomorrow. Since I'm only workign a 1/2 day that day, I will stop in then as well and say my farewells to the club. I'm sure that when I get back, the diner will have been moved AGAIN!

Dick - Sorry to hear the loss of your uncle. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

JR - Glad the fd got there fast. From what you described, it could have been a total loss if they had not. Prayers to you and yours as well.

Ok gang... dinnertime.

Take care!

And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Evening all,

Went to a little hole in the wall today in downtown Cleveland and had a gyro, wholly cow I think they served me the whole lamb, going to skip dinner tonight I'm still busting at the seams.

Going to have another working open house on the layout next week buddy from work and his son are coming down to help ballast the yard tracks and maybe some of the mains.

Dutch Harbor; my Assignment Officer (Detailer) always offers that unit to me.  The island is a nice little refueling point for the USCG Medium and High Endurance Cutters (WMEC & WHEC) and the fishing fleets.  So far I've avoided it, maybe as my twilight tour.

I got the result from my chief test; 82 after doing the math it looks like my final score will be a 132.579.  Doesn't look high enough to make the advancement list, maybe I'll get it right next year.

Good afternoon.....

I'm glad to see everybody....

bobk ...that's wonderful news about your duaghters achievemens in college. Also, good to know you are okay with stuff.

Fergie .... nice to hear from you and I'm glad you have modeling time. I hope you can psot pix when you return. you're not planning too much gaerdening and other non-mrr stuff are you?

Ryan ... that's super news about your stepson's graduation. Hawaii????

Jeff ... the park scene is great!

Paul ... I hope there's a way to track down where Ed is. OJ will run out and we need his commentaries.

Tom ... SOunds like you have much to do awaiting the creeper. Enjoy!

My branchline caboose is now riding on new trucks and a steel underframe. I saw a picture of a Burlington side door caboose on Allied trucks instead of the normal wood beam trucks. Well, I just happened to have a pair of Allied trucks. Done.

Now i'm making a wood Burlington "3 window" caboose from another roundhouse caboose. I already have have six Walthers wood 4 window CB&Q cabooses. Plus there are several steel CB&Q cabooses on the alyout.

I think the Roundhouse wood cabooses could be used to kitbash an NP wood caboose, too.  Another time for that.

Happy Model Railroading.

in a SOUTHERN mug, please & thanks!

***Jim, got your email. Will look over it tonight. Thanks!

***Hoople, those are cool photos. Wife & I watched all of the first season of Deadliest Catch. Neat show.

***ROTOR, I can see your point about Milka Duno. Hmmmm, that makes two reasons to take up watching the races. I commented on this new revelation to my wife, that there were two babes who drive racecars. She was not surprised and pointed out that neither of them were blonde.Laugh [(-D]

***Jeffrey, would never recognize that as the same loco. Must have a regular Park Crew (or RR volunteers) to keep it looking so pristine.

***Bob K., glad to hear life is improving for you. It takes time. Wishing you all the best!

Woke up early and headed out with the wife to put up more closet units, shelves and hang pictures at her folks new room. Took most of the day and there is still much more to do there.

Tinytoons (mini dwarf horse) lost one of her shoes and even with the metal detector (which is how I normally find it) this time no luck. Did the barn twice and the yard once, but not even one little beep. Need to go make her a new one. Takes a good hour to cut it out of sheet metal, drip the air hole and then grind down all the sharp edges. But she still needs both shoes. Darn!

Have a great day all! Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Morning everyone.

Well, same weather out here in SunnyCal--cloudy with afternoon showers and MORE snow predicted for the higher elevations in the Sierra.  In May, yet, LOL!  I guess we're playing catch-up from a very dry March and April.  However I don't know if this late wet weather is really going to affect our fire season this summer--which has started way TOO early for my liking.  At least that terrible fire in the Santa Cruz mountains is mostly contained, and should be out in a couple of days if the weather stays damp.

Checked every auto supply, hardware, ladder store in town and nobody's ever HEARD of the 'Topside Creeper,' so I ordered it from Micromark today.  Should be in about a week from now, so the Buttes are on hold.  Which doesn't mean I'm 'project-less,' though.  Got some detail work to do on a couple of locos, continue replacing my 'fall' WS clumpy trees with Scenic Express 'instants', repaving a highway--enough to keep me busy until I can get at the buttes.

Ryan: congratulations on your son's HS graduation.  As a just-retired teacher from a Catholic high school (Jesuit, out here in Sacramento), I can assure you that he probably got one HECK of a good education.  Where's he going for college?  Sounds like you all had a good graduation trip.

Jeff: neat display loco for your park.  For a moment there I was afraid you'd be putting the 2-10-2 on display.  Like what you did with the Pennsy Pacific, though.  The park is really coming along beautifully.

Well, the mailman just delivered a box of Cal-Scale parts from Bowser, so I'm off to install locomotive decks and fit an ash-pan on a loco I converted from oil to coal.  Should keep me out of trouble the next couple of days.

Best to all, and prayers to those in need.

Tom

[#ditto]Yeah!! [yeah] Good question - where are they?

Glad that you asked Garry and Jim, at least two of you missed me! Smile [:)]

Went on a real vacation for the first time since spring of 2005 and first real vacation since Katrina too!

My step son Bryan had his high school graduation from Saint Paul's Academy in Covington, LA on Sunday, May 18th; it was a Catholic Mass graduation ceremony. We went to New Orleans the week before that to visit my parents and we stayed with Monique's family, ate some good fresh seafood every day and such and then attended the celebration. We then flew Bryan to Hawaii Cool [8D] as a present to continue the celebration; of course we all came along too! Just got back into town yesterday afternoon and playing catch up since....

Sorry to hear about the fire JR, curious about as to how it started too! Glad to hear everyone was okay in the matter.

Sorry for your loss Dick, your uncle seems like he was a really great guy! Thoughts and prayers for you and the family.

In response to you and Johny Boy

We Lost Internet once we neared the Greenland Coast then... we got caught off of Greenland by a Low, which wouldn't go away so we hove to for 2 days riding it out. Mostly Gales 40-45 kts with gusts up to 50 at times. Anyway we are free and clear of that MESS and on our way back to the Labrador Coast where luck would have it is another Low deepening (Oh Joy) What mader it really interesting was the Greenland Current. It was running a good 2-3 knots in places. I've never seen waves travel like that before! some were a good 30' But the good thing was there were no Bergas to run into. I'm heading back to Iceberg alley and should be there by tomorrow evening.

Saying that the couple of MR projects are slowing getting done. Both Jordan Erie Built Crane and Steam Shovel are built, just need paint and rigging.

Dick: Sorry to hear of your loss. So from what Lisa tells me the East Coast has been wearing hip waders this last few weeks.

Anyway I must run!
