Morning all--

Hope everyone's doing well--and welcome, Metra Kid.  Tell us a little about yourself, okay?

Terry:  Has that H-8 arrived yet?  Of course, I'm sure if it had, you'd tell us all about it.  I'm as anxious for you to get that beautiful lady as YOU are, LOL!   Speaking of H-series, I remember some years back, NJ Custom Brass imported an H-7 2-8-8-2.  Always wondered what those little puppies ran like--they were certainly handsome articulateds.  Kinda-sorta reminded me of a Rio Grande L-131, with that big, fat Elesco 'eyebrow' and the front-hung pumps.  Just between you and me, I think that C&O sported some of the HANDSOMEST steamers imaginable!

Well, Mom left yesterday--had a good time with her.  She's almost 94 and still sharp as a tack.  The woman is indestructable!   The Amoxycillin kicked in and I can breathe again--just in time for triple-digit temperatures beginning Thursday.  Whoopee!  Had a good wind yesterday and blew all the pollen out, so I can spend some time in the garage today on the layout.  Still waiting for my Cripplebush 'Buttes' to arrive--gotta learn some patience.  Hopefully this week.  Also just found that one of my Sinohara turnouts has decided to act up and derail everything.  Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't a JUNCTION turnout.  Yech!  I just might meander down to Bruce's and pick up an Atlas Custom #6 replacement.  They used to work for me pretty well.  We'll see.

Other than that, nothing much new.  Going to finish my ash-pit gondola today.  Probably head out to the Sierra on Thursday, trusty camera in hand, get some scenery shots for inspiration.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Nah, no fire there. There's just so many openings in the frame that I can't block them all off without restricting the travel of the front truck without creating a fire hazard or derailment problem, so I just live with the light coming through.

I see that tom has the lunch tab taken care of so I'll have the burrito and tacos, with plenty of Tabasco.

in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks!

After only 2 hours sleep, pent the entire day yesterday helping move (movers did the all the heavy stuff this time) the wife's parents into their room at the new facility. Wife and I had dinner with them there, only to find out how much it cost us as guests. Yikes, won't be doing that again anytme soon, if ever.

Still exhausted beyond description. Forced day off, other than the required farm stuff.

Vintage diesel sales on the-bay turned out fine. No regrets this time. Keep eyeing that Bigboy, but cannot justify it with other expenses (like tooth extractions) still to come.

***Jim, I printed out the layout plans today and will get back with you after reviewing them this week. Thanks!

Welcome to the new folks & healing thoughts to those in need.

Good evening....the winds finally died down today. When we looked out the window this morning we saw that our neighbor's big Maple tree was blown over during the night. Luckily it missed the house by inches, and I do mean INCHES. This tree had a diameter of about 26" and would have crushed the sunroom addition.

It hit 70F here today, very dry also, class IV fire danger again. I spent the day filling in the huge hole from the Maple tree stump that we removed last week. I am wiped out tonight. My son came over with one of those rubber track excavators that you can now rent, and in a short time that huge stump was out and gone.

RT: That really is maddening!!!! After the sub-prime loan fiasco, all the banks and loan companies are being really careful and also very anal. Hang in there RT, it will be a done deal soon.

 refill, please & thanks!

***Philip, antibiotics reversed the trend. Minimal discomfort so I am not taking anything for pain anymore. Still need to schedule the extractions though.

***Terry, that's a mighty perdy loco there. Cool!

***RT, sorry for your troubles there. Hope things smooth out soon. Sounds very frustrating.

Wife went and gave her folks their morning meds. Then after running errands she went to check on them, only to discover her parents had taken second doses of their morning drugs. Wife is going to try alarm clocks with cups set out beside both. A cow clock for morning meds, a loon clock for evening meds. If they can't follow that, they are going to wind up in a nursing home. Crossing my fingers for all involved.

Beautiful day here. Still exhausted. Going to go veg and watch TV.

Garry: Yes, that storm was really a rough one. A Lobster fisherman lost his life in that storm. His son and another man swan 5 miles to a shoal island off the coast of NH and lit a fire to survive overnight untill the Coast Guard found them in the morning. The father didn't make it. No distress calls from the boat. We figure they got swamped by a rogue wave in the high seas that day.

Hello again Dick.... That's sad story on the one hand, but good on the other that two people could swim that distance in bad weather.

Here it's wet now: "Through 1000 PM...there is a line of showers and thunderstorms that will be affecting communities from Cape Girardeau and Marble Hill... South to New Madrid...with locally heavy rains and occasional lightning. Meanwhile more scattered shower and thunderstorm activity will produce the same as they move east of Paducah...and impact the lower Ohio River valley from around Smithland and Shawneetown...north and east toward Evansville."

Well, I think my boy had fun tonight.  I decided to take him up to the go cart park up the road a ways to go for a ride or two.  Thought he'd like that since we haven't done that since last summer.  Well we get there and they're having a special, 10 races for $40.  To top it off, we were the only ones there.  Lets just say that he got lots of seat time, but the old man still put the moves on him and won the overall race........by a hair!

RT, feelin' for ya there bud!  Hate the waiting game!

Rob, glad the major problems are behind you for now!

Good evening folks: Cold wind persisting all day spoiled an otherwise surprisingly sunny one. (Earlier forecasts had been for rain.)

Jerry:  Nice NKP train you've put together there! Thumbs Up [tup]

John Der...Good to see you back in Dinner!...Did you get a good deal on Hong Kong vehicles?..They look good...
...I think so, as they were $12 delivered for the 50 vehicles.  There's  many repeats of course in that many, but spread around the room they make things look busy.  I've now got a dozen older era (60s?) cars and station wagons from one of those open tri-level car transporter flat-cars that I don't need.  Are you interested, for the cost of the postage? I could send you a photo.

Garry:

Der John ........ Layout progress looks great. Gald you're back in the diner. Now what's the latest from Luc?

...His phone was busy when I tried it just now.  I'll email him and ask.

Dick:

100 cars on EBay ????
...this lot was 50, but the same seller has lots of 100....and people by the 300!!!! They are Buy It Now, just like Terry's HO C&O Allegheny 2-6-6-6 Steam Locomotive DCC/Sound but a whole bunch less $s. Big Smile [:D]  How come you are in fire risk mode so soon after all that rain?

Colin: Welcome... I see you've got some answers already.  CapeJim is pretty good at the welcome tour and ground rules thing. Hope you enjoy it here. Enquiring minds will want to know your mrr interests, scale, layout (plans?), where's Villa Park, etc.

Rob:  That's scary about your in-law's meds. Hope the clock thing works out, and they remember which is which.

Well, that's it for me today.  No mrr at all as I had to finish cleaning at the museum in the morning, and it took hours in the afternoon to get so permits for van the sorted out at the "Service Nova Scotia" branch office in the Harbour. That's only open 10:00-2:00 Tuesdays, and the take a number line was at #41 when I got there, serving #32. The door was shut at #52, but many had left by then. Still, I did get what I needed.  Then this evening it was the Heritage Society monthly meeting....and so it goes.

all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.Angel [angel]

Evening Gang:

RT: Hang in there. I'm sure that things will work out all right.

Rob now get that extraction lined up. The sooner the better. I know that I'm still anctious about the catarac deal Friday. The sooner the better, less time to worry.

I've spent the afternoon and most of the evening trying to get my computer straightened out. I down loaded an up date to Norton and things have been screwed up since. I think that everything is all right now, I hope. I didn't get to do any MRRing. I did get the garage a little cleaner but there is along way to go. I found out that there is nowhere in the county to get rid of old chemicals such as weed killer and insecticides. So what am I to do with the stuff? I guess I'll just mix it up and use it. I hate to do that.

Colin Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the diner. It's nice to have another youngster around. I'm a ROF of 65 but can remember being 18. My wife says I still act it. So give us some info on yourself, like scale, layout, prototype of freelance. We're just nosy.

Well I'm going to head out and hit the sack. I have to go in to the eye doc tomorrow for the pre op.

Good Night All

Good Evening All,

Back from the museum where we finished ballast on the main line of the new O gauge. Spent way too much time in the shop over the last week but did get caught up a bit. We launched the trucks for Elkhart Lake Wisc this morning and my son and I follow tomorrow morning and the rest of the crew thursday as we only have one driver doing the pre race test day. With luck I'll get a chance to stop by Walthers on our way to the track.

My Blueline RSD15HH showed up today - looks good and tested well on the museum display. Now to add the decoder for operation and reprogram to suit.

I'll have more pics from the museum when i get a chance next week. For now a glass of O.J. and some sleep is in order as we fly out of Bradley tomorrow morning.

RT - hang in there eventually they'll run out of questions to pester you with and you'll get your deal done.

Der - good to see you back. The cars do add a lot - can't wait to see peeps as well. Gotta run - good night all.    J.R.

It just ain't fair...for the price of one N scale Bigboy, in HO my wife could have:

This

Plus this

&this one too .

Where is the fairness in that?Mischief [:-,] Who thinks my wifes little farm layout should expand just enough for a small logging operation?Whistling [:-^]Laugh [(-D] Nothing I am going to act upon anytime soon. Just pops forward from the recesses of my brain every now and then. Can anyone here tell me how nice these HO locos look in person and if they run OK?

Good Morning All,

Guess I'll sleep on the plane. I'll have a regular and a cinnamon roll please. Cleaning up paperwork and billings before taking off to the airport - woke up at the usual time with no alarm.

PC - watch it that's a slippery slope you put your son on. Next it'll be drivers school and then you'll come home early on the weekend and find him washing the numbers off your sports car LOL.

Rob - If they are Bachman I find the detail good and they run well in HO. Some on the forum have gotten turkeys but were able to return/exchange them no hassles for the most part. All the whirling mechansims are great to watch and micromark has a bunch on offer with DCC and sound to really hook you. How will your CFO deal with a takeover of her railroad?

Dick - that was sad news about the fishermen. The Atlantic is pretty unforgiving. Locally we had a 60 yr old killed by a falling tree whilst riding to a family dinner Sunday on his motorcycle. Nothing like the troubles in the midwest or the Atlantic coast in Fla but ironic none the less.

Gotta go - still have stuff to do before I leave.   CUL,   J.R.

Good morning, Chloe, I will just have coffee please.

Rob,  I noticed that Micro-mark has the 3-truck shay with sound at a decent price.  That should keep her excited.

Yesterday I found out that our LHS which got flooded in December is coming back.  It will be a little smaller though.  I guess they had 1 hour to try to save things.  He was not working that day.  The DCC engines were among the things that didn't survive.  The damages were in the mid 5 digits.  Ouch.  The hydrocal and ground foam made it.

Off to work.

Good morning, beautiful day here, 62F and very low humidity. More holes to fill outside from the tree stumps that my sons pulled out last week.

J.R: That is a freak accident for sure, riding a bike and tree limb falls on your head.

DER JOHN: I thought you bought the lot of 100 figures. As for Class IV fire danger, we have not really had much rain here in central MA, the heavy rains have been all around us but not here, and, the humidity has been very low. This in concert with high winds have really kept the woodlands dry.

Well, I had better get going outside..... see you guys at lunchtime.

Good morning,

Rob, I see that green locomotive is popular on the bay in HO scale.  I've been trying to contact that guy selling the used locomotives in FT. Wayne, but no luck.  He had N-scale and HO-scale locomotives for under $100 some w/DCC.  Glad to hear you did well on the bay, market is kind of hit or miss right now.

Paul, is that the Norton upgrade with the black background vs. the usual yellow background?  I made the mistake of loaded it onto my laptop and hate it.  It took 3 weeks to get it to run right.  How much is gasoline down there in TX?

RT, I had some issues with Countrywide seems they are really picky.  I would recommend calling GMAC mortgage (they gave me the loan when Countrywide turned me down).  I did the 3 year arm, started at 4.25%, the 4th year it went to 5.25% and this year it dropped to 4.25% again.  Hang in there, something good will come of all this hassle.

Terry, nice locomotive! I'm watching the bay for a T-1 or a big Boy.  I should really save my money for the DCC system I want.  I might buy the power supply this payday then buy the starter kit next month.

Anybody seen ED?

Morning all--

Woke up this morning feeling just GREAT!  Meds have kicked in and I can breathe nice and deep, which is something I haven't been able to do for weeks.  Supposed to be about 90 today, with triple digits settling into the Valley tomorrow for about four days.  Whoopie!

Got a notice from Cripplebush that my 'Buttes' were shipped yesterday, so I should have them in about a week, or however long it takes UPS Ground to get them here from NY.  In the meantime, I finished up my ash-pit yesterday and went to work on re-vamping the highway bridge over Plum Creek in Sierra City.  Turned it into a one-lane timber floored bridge like I remember being up there when I was a kid.  I'll go out and install it later, today.

Rob: Saw those shots of the HO locos, and the only one I have is the Bachmann Shay.  I can tell you it's a smooth little runner, but I can also tell you that my old, OLD kit-built Roundhouse Shay can out-pull it.  Of course the Roundhouse sounds like a bucket of really NASTY bolts, but the Bachmann is a pretty darned good little loco.  I use it as a switcher in Deer Creek yard a lot.  Evidently the real Rio Grande had a Shay that they used for the same thing in Salt Lake City.

Terry:  Still drooling over that Allegheny of yours--have you test-run that baby yet?  We expect daily reports, you know, LOL!

Still thinking about heading into the mountains tomorrow for a day or two, camera in hand.  If the temperature down here gets to where it's SUPPOSED to, I probably will.  May's just WAY too early for triple digits, even here in SunnyCal.

Posted my first 'character shot' in WPF, but it was kind of late.  Thought I'd post it here, though.  The caption is "Hey, Fred, we know you're a 'go-getter', but we just DUMPED those ashes!"

Anyway, have a great day, everyone.

Whistling [:-^]

Good Morning All,

Girls, Girls, who's working back there this morning??  I'll have two eggs in a hole with bacon on the side, cranberry and 7 to swish. Thanks much........I'll be with the old pharts at the corner table.

last evening I went to a new little theatre that has just been built to see "Leatherheads". I asked two buddies and my son to go with me as my wife was really feeling beat, but all had previously planned things to do, so I went alone.  REALLY alone, believe it or not, I was the only one in the theatre.  Had my own private showing. But have to say I really enjoyed the show.  Some great photography of old C&NW steam power and passengers cars and of course you can't miss with George Clooney and Rene Z.   I recommend it highly, take your wives as there is a cute little love story with it as well as FOOTBALL (old style).  Will see it again with my wife I'm sure.

Do you guys and gals ever remember a time where the weather is as screwed up as it seems to be right now.  Man, has the USA ever been catching it lately, all over the place and all different types of storms. Let alone, south America, China, Burma, and  Japan etc.  Seems like right out of the Book of Revelations, ( In diverse places ).

Anyway hope you folks south of the 49th have all survived these storms and that they back off, you have all had enough, I would say.

Have to take off a few doors and railings this morning as the wife and I bought a new washer and dryer and also a new range the other day. She said these would be her last and she wanted to get them before she retires, probably a pretty good plan. So I had better get at it.

A huge diner welcome to all the newbies to the forum, hope you all enjoy it here. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a reunion.  Maybe we could have it on Fergie's Cruise ship.  Well maybe NOT.

Where is ED ??

Sue, buy that Loco, I know you really want it.  Make it a belated Valentines or Mother's Day  or even the 2nd Wednesday of the month gift.   LOl.

You all keep smiling now, It looks good on you.

Must "GET-R-DUN"  See you all later.

Howdy al,

I know its been a long time and if it hadn't been for Ed comming to see me w/"orange juice" I wouldn't have found y'all.

I'm in the midst of a massive bathroom project. Pipe let loose and after getting into the wall found carpenter ant damage. The master bath is next to the other bath. I feel like Tom hanks in the money pit.

I'm also in the midst of yet another divorce. Seems her eldest has never liked me and is openly hatefully & ugly towards me and mom won't do anything about it cause she dosen't see any wrong doing or only makes a token effort. My Father in law says I'm too hard on the eldest and takes every oppertunity to say so in front of the teen.

The store on the other hand is going like gang busters and for that I glad.

don't know when I can stop in again so my best to all and keep em' running.

Hmmmmm, seems like it, huh?

Fantastic weather outside today, and getting a lot done. We have a Low and a front moving in on Thursday night and Friday, so got to make hay while we can.

TRENT: Sorry to hear about your divorce. Some parents just don't get it when it comes to discipline with kids especially teenagers. Maybe when the kid gets into trouble your ex and her parents will get the message that you are trying to give.

JOHNBOY: Ed is having withdrawal symptoms, the Red Sox have lost 4 of the last 5 games and he has resigned himself to his front porch to sip some home brew.

R.T.: I would be very careful of variable rate mortgages. Our economy is headed for massive inflation, and that will drive the interest rate up and up. Variable rate mortgages make sense if you are only staying in a house for less than 5 to 7 years. If you plan to stay longer, get a fixed rate 30 year before the rates take off. Our country is $50 Trillion dollars in the RED and that is no bull. The rates have to go up soon because we now have Negative rates. The cost of living according to the Fed is 4% at the moment ( which of course is bull, it is more like 11% )and the prime is 2.5%, so that means we have a negative rate of borrowing.

JEFF: The weather looks real bad down your way, I was watching the Weather Channel at lunch and I see that parts of Louisiana received 10" of rain in 24 hours....now THAT is rain!!

Ok, time to get back outside, see you guys later,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! I'm going about it a little different.  I got in on an adjustable (that stays the same for the first two years, then adjusts) to take advantage of the good introductory rates, and then for the next two years I worked to better my credit rating.  Once the loan interest rate gets close to changing (end of this year) I'll be refinancing to a fixed.  It's OK if I have to make a few big payments.  I can swing that.  In the mean time I get the best of both worlds.

Hello everybody ....

Tom ....... enjoy the mountains and feel free to post pix of them upon your return here.

JohnBoy ... I hope Mrs. johnBoy likes those appliances she got. She should be all set for that retirement.

Trent ... I was sorry to learn your story. We've missed hearing from you. We're your friends when you need us. Let us know how you are doing.

On the mortagage stuff I think Philip had some good advice. I think the thing to do is get quotes for a varaible rate mortagage and for the fixed rate mortgage. Then go ahead with the variable rate mortage which has lower paymants than the fixed rate mortgaes. THEN (important part) pay each months payment as if it was the higher fixed rate. That way the principle is paid down faster. Then if you refinace later, you are much farther ahead. Even if you don't refinance, you are farther ahead.  Now, Dick, I don't know where you get your information, but I will say things are much better than that. Inflation is much better here in the USA than in many other countries. Today's inflation release from the government was quite good. I'll just say: things in Western KY are hunky dory.

One good thing: the price of Burlington Northern Santa Fe stock is up to $107.00/ share. I really like that.

Happy Model Railroading
