Paul--

Just a note, friend.  The last time I checked Caboose Hobbies on line, they had a couple of Missabe Mikes.  Of course, I was looking for a 'cheap' Yellowstone, LOL, as usual!

Evening Gang: Not a whole lot new. I got the far back yard mowed and picked up the cuttings from the other week before mowing. Now I'll have to pick up the new cuttings when they have dryed out a bit.

Tom good job on the youngin. The trick will be to get him interested and mom also. I've got to talk to those folks at

Caboose Hobbies. There are a couple of brass locomotives that I'm looking for. Mainly a Duluth and Iron Range 2-8-2.

JP in case I miss talking to you before Wednesday take care and have a good and safe tour. I'll make a note of your E-mail address.

Well I guess I'll hit the showers.

Good Night All

Sent you a PM, too.

Oh, yeah, Flo - I'll have another RBF since Garry got the TOP (saved Railnut675 from another one...). Smile [:)]

Uh, Oh, Tom...You may need to considering going back to work. This retirement stuff may be getting a little too eventful! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Caboose Hobbies, eh? I was in that store two years ago. Lots of stuff. Amazing inventory! Those who have been there know it's also a good place to monkey around.

Per Tom's request I posted more pix in WPF.

Just a quick stop in this evening.

Just wanted to say thanks for the prayers and well wishes as I head off on Wednesday for the 'Sand Box' I did some shopping yesterday @ the LHS for some reading material. I bought 4 Kalmbach books, and since the owner was asking me when I leave, I told him. He then went into his back room, and brough out about 8 or so back issues of Railmodel Journal and said here, take these with you and leave them there for the rest of the troops. What a ncie guy he is. I have to make sure when I get back from overseas, that I buy him one of our unit polo shirts as a thank you gift for the free mags.

I'm tired and think I should get some extra rest as I know later this week, my whole system will be off kilter.

Night gang!

Afternoon, everyone:

Well, the heat's coming back here in SunnyCal--the weather report said we'd be in the balmy low '80's today, we passed that about noon.  Right now it's about 87 or so, and the garage door is open and I just finished putting the intitial coat on a new acqusition, a used PFM L-131 2-8-8-2 I bought from Caboose Hobbies.  Swear to the Big Guy up There, that if it weren't for Caboose Hobbies, I wouldn't have any Rio Grande steam at all and I'd have to 'freelance', LOL!  Right now it's on the kitchen table in the usual thousand pieces while the paint cures.  Spooky's guarding it, I can trust her, she only steals cabeese, thank God!

Cute thing happened today, I was out painting the new loco and this kid that I've never seen before, kept riding past on his bike.  Go down several houses and turn around and ride back, stop and stare.  About eleven or so, I think.  Finally he stopped and grinned and said "Hi."  He just stayed on the sidewalk and peered in at the garage, then finally asked, "Uh, can I see the train?"

I was just about to say, "Yes," when BELLS went off.  Okay, let me explain.  I'm a just-retired schoolteacher at a Catholic school, and I'm presently single.  And the events of the past several years concerning certain things that have happened in the Church have made me just a little gun-shy about being around young males without someone else present.  Sorry, but that's how it's kind of become, no matter what.  So I said, "Why don't you go get your dad and you can both come in and see it."  The kid looked as if he was about to cry and said, "I don't have a dad."

Oboy, stalemate.  Then he brightened and said, "Could I go get my mom?"

They just left about a half hour ago.  Mom is a really cool lady.  They live about two blocks down.  The kid--Jason--was absolutely entranced by the MR.  I ran a train for him.  And no, it didn't derail, LOL!  Though it slowed down at a NEW spot on the tracks--got to check the electrical busses in that spot--.  Jason asked if he could come back, and maybe I could let him run a train sometime.  Mom agrees, but "Don't bother Mr. White ALL of the time."

I'm not sure, but there might be a new Model Railroader in the neighborhood.  And unless the initial wonder in Jason's eyes weares off quick, I might be able to put him to good use.  I mean, I can't duck UNDER the layout like I used to, LOL!  My son used to do that for me, but he's living 600 miles away and HE isn't as young as he used to be!

Just thought I'd share that.  Between this young Jason and a fellow Modeler that lives down at the end of the street, my garage might become a fairly busy place this summer.

And not ONCE did Jason ask: "How FAST can they go?"  Now that's a good sign if there ever was one, LOL!

So, Jeff - has your head stopped spinning yet? I figured that Duo Core processor would be plenty fast (and it sounds like it definitely is)!

Railnut, I take it that you are over 21, huh? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] That sounded like some cab ride to breakfast, Shock [:O] and some party.

Well, I'd better get back to it for now.

No. My dad was shanghaied/volunteered into planning his favorite college professors 75th birthday party. It was at the Harvard Club since the prof. went there for college himself (not dad, though). There were 50 people; from three continents, four countries, and lots of states.

Mitch .....

I like the house number locomotive, too.

It reminds me of an idea I had but never followed through with it. I wanted to get a scrapped number board from a locomotive and light it up.  Perhaps I should have moved to an house with a favorite locomotive number as its address, too. Smile [:)] ..Next, you can imagine my idea for the doorbell.

Afternoon, Flo! I'll have - oh, you guessed it already (have the weekday servers been tipping you off?) - a root beer float, please.

Thank'ya, ma'am! Dinner [dinner]

Jeff, looks like you have some people to populate that park (and a ball field, too)! Good haul, I'd say. And from your description of that new motherboard, you'd better have your seatbelt on when you turn that sucker on, or else you might get whiplash from the acceleration from that thing. Shock [:O] That thing'll be finishing your posts for you, as fast as it is! Yeah!! [yeah] Look at all those pretty colors on it, too - seems almost a shame to hide it inside the box.Wink [;)]

PC and Shockwave, good to hear you're all still there, and I see Garry has checked back in, so he's accounted for. And PC, good to hear some (eternal) good came out of the storm. Having grown up in North St. Louis County, I had a few tornado warnings/watches back then. Still want any place I live to have a basement...

RRNut675, are you going for PC's or Flip's record for the most TOP honors? Need to pace yourself, so you still have MRR'ing money, and too many TOP's could make that harder...Wink [;)]

Hey, Ed, good to hear from you - and yes, we like that OJ, but I was figuring that for as long as you've been gone, either you were in a hospital Shock [:O] or else you were going to have some nice pics from wherever you'd been for that time. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I'm sure your daughter and S-I-L were glad to have you help them on the moving. You and your body, of course, may have felt otherwise after it was over and done Whistling [:-^]...

Paul, have your walls been growing while you were sleeping? What's with the increasing amount of baseboard thing? Confused [%-)]

CN Charlie, good to hear that your boat launching went so smoothly. Yeah!! [yeah] Helga, huh? Whistling [:-^] Hope things go well with your dog at the vet's.

Mitch, nice house number plate! Thumbs Up [tup] You might want to think about how many times you want to hear the diesel horn _inside_ the house, though, before you install that... Is that an EMD or a GE plate? Wink [;)]

Gav, keep reminding yourself - "Soon the little darlings will be moved out and peace will return, however briefly..." Sigh [sigh]

Flip, good to see you in the Diner - and even nicer for you, you didn't get the TOP when you came in! Smile [:)]

Well, our weatherguessers under-did themselves. They only predicted a high of 81 or 82 F today, and it's currently 83 F (28 C). Glad I'm inside with air conditioning... Humidity's been up last couple of days, too.

The fish fry dinner last night was very good - crappie and channel catfish, hush puppies (found out the first batch had jalapeños in them, so I decided to forgoe them altogether), salad (lettuce kind and also a potato salad that was yummy, fries, and the lady who brought the caramel fudge brownies last time baked a new batch (double yummy!!)Dinner [dinner] Leo has a nice apartment (about 1200 square feet, with a covered deck that's between the master bedroom door and the door from the living room, large master bath with a walk-in closet off of it). Well-constructed, too - Leo said he's never heard his neighbors, and thinks the walls are concrete or brick behind the wallboard.

Yesterday afternoon, I got out a roundhouse kit (Model Masterpieces?) that I'd bought from another MRR club member a few months back. He had started it, and had the wood bracing supports assembled and stained, and the Hydrocal/plaster ('stone') walls painted, so most of the big w**k has been done. My only guess why he decided not to finish it came when I was looking through the directions, where it says that the original Como roundhouse it's patterned after, had a 50' turntable. I was wondering how hard it will be to adjust that to the Walthers 90' turntable that I have. Of course, the roundhouse kit is for six stalls, so if I trim it down to four or three stalls, I should have enough castings that I could put them together with wider outside walls at the ends of the stalls. Anyone ever put together a craftsman roundhouse kit?Whistling [:-^] I'll talk with the MRR member or others tomorrow night at MRR club meeting, or I'll call him this afternoon. afternoon/evening.

I'll be putting together a lesson for next Sunday's singles small group, so I'll be spread out at one of the back tables if anyone else comes in.

Prayers for comfort, peace, and blessings (and for a smooth clearing away/cleaning up for JR).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Morning All,

A bright morning after all the rain and wind last night. I'll go over to the house after I get off to check the boarding up and the pile of debris. Hopefully the tarp stayed put.

PC - glad you came out ok - sorry to hear about your neighbors though.

Flash - that's the whole point I guess. Your whole life can change in the blink of an eye with no apparent rhyme or reason to it. My youngest son found that out last week - he went to sleep in the world he was used to and woke up in a cloud of smoke and flame. It may sound overly dramatic but it happens to people every day and faith to my thinking is the best way to deal with it. You can only shoulder so much on your own before the weight flattens you.

Gotta go and move more stuff at the house today and I'm not getting it done sitting here. Catch Y'all later.     J.R.

She's the kitty! Good choice

They sell horns. You could hook the trigger up to the doorbell button. Then when you peel the postman, the neighborhood president, and the cop telling you to take it down for disturbing the peace out of the bushes across the street, yuo can tell us how it went.

Evening folks-yep, just java!

Phillip-at least you came out unscathed. Property can be replaced (well, sometimes) But you came thru things & that's the important thing. I guess we went under a tornado watch a few hrs after I had went to bed, but all we got was a few rumblings of thunder & about .28" of rain according to my rain gauge. We need the rain though here-actually wanting for a bit. I'm looking at a couple rogue thunder boomers on the radar here, but they seem to be sliding to the southeast below us & dissapating.

Paul-I missed your post from the previous evening-Sears "should" replace that, as that's always been their policy with stuff like that. My mom worked at the local store here for 10-15 years. (a long time ago though sometime in the mid 50's until I was born in 1966)-But you may deal with problems like I did about 15 years ago. My best bud had a belt sander (Craftsman) go bad on him, & it was obviously defective. He gave me the receipt & asked me to return it for him. The guy who was in charge there blew up at me, accusing me/us of not using it properly. I was completely taken aback, & gently told him it WAS used properly, & tried to explain the problem. He eventually & grudingly gave me a refund, but with an extremely surly attitude. When I got back to my bud, I told him what happened, & he immediately got in contact with the big boss of the dept. He told her of the employee's attitude & comments, & assured him that the employee WOULD be dealt with, & I shouldn't have put up with that. (I told my Mom also later, & she agreed.) So bottom line-anyone gives you crap, go to the big bosses!

Jeff-online license renewal is a great thing IMO-it beats waiting in line, & dealing with young female clerks that talk almost inaudibly & like a tape speeded up! The only gripe I have with Ohio is the historical plate feature. I need to get that for the Coronet so it can be driven (plates are expired, & since they're the "personal" type, no way I'm paying $100 to renew those-it's enough for the ones I have on my truck) Anyways, that's probably the only feature you can't do online-I need to fill out the form-BLAH!)

Hey, the HVS has been searching the waybills for a reefer of OJ to show up at Columbus/Parsons yard for delivery to the main office & the CEO-Ed, still waiting!Big Smile [:D]

Oh before I go, I wanted to share this-finished this earlier this month. I decided our "address plaque" out front was a little too generic looking, so I decided to make a bit more "appropriate" one:

Done with a jig saw & coping saw, without benefit of stable surfaces, & then painted with correct model paint, but HEAVY multiple coats of a Krylon equivalent clear, so we'll see how it holds up over time. Now I need to find out if I can get a doorbell that sounds like a diesel horn or something. Big Smile [:D]

Better hit it folks-nite all!

No, no,......it's not like that at all!  It's just that the power of God's creation is just so amazing!  The devestation is remarkable to say the least.  But I do have good news!  Our church was out helping folks clean up today, and through that effort, someone came to know the Lord as their Savior.  (And the Angels rejoyced!)

PC.... Nothing is so bad that it is not good for something. It happens all the time.

CN Charlie... It's interesting to hear about the boat. What lake is it on?

Do we get fresh OJ in the morning from Amigo Ed?

Cheers.
