in a SANTA FE mug, please & thanks.
***Paul, if you mean a Hiawatha passenger train, well, those working the iron ore have to get there somehow. So why not by train? More fun than by car or bus, right? (just trying to help out with your own justification)
***Dick, sounds like quite a day you had. You could always use some of that greese for your joints. Seriously htough, if you lived closer I would have enjoyed helping you with spreading. Did it end up raining much?
***Jeffrey, looking forward to seeing what you do with the boxcar & gondola.
***Jim, "weatherguessers" That's about right, too. Hope the storms don't get too bad there. We "might" get some severe storms tomorrow. "YEE HAW" And thanks for your help with the layout.
***Philip, that is an impressive recovery your son has had. Sounds like the Mrs is doing quite well also. Continued healing thoughts heading their way.
I'll be guzzling my coffee in a corner booth. Rob

Afternoon, Zoe - I'll have my afternoon RBF, please.
And where's Sue? Somebody better let her know the RBF line is open. She probably could stand a break from her yardw**k.

Well, Rob, most of the storm front has moved through, but (Yippee!) there are still clouds, which should keep us from getting any nasty stuff this afternoon. Hey,you want storms, maybe Jeff can send you some from his way... As I said, for the layout help, we'll wait and see what I come up with first, before you thank me.
Zoe, I think I'll have a coney dog with my root beer float, please. Thanks! I'll have it over here in the booth.

***Jim, I see you have included quite a few sections of track running off the edge of the table without any bumpers. Also not sure my locos can handle the numerous 45% inclines you have heading towards the ceiling.
Time for evening critter rounds here. Rob

Like the covered hopper?
Godd afternoon all. I learned something last night. As a train chaser, I stink. Mom came home, said she saw a yellow switch engine midtrain and that the engines looked like they were shut down for the evening. Couldn't tell if it were on a flatcar or what in the 30 minutes it took for me to get down there, (Sure is nice having my own wheels) it was gone. As in, vanished. I hurried toward the yard, spotted a pair of hoppers heading west toward Terre Haute (I hope there was an engine, maybe more train...) he was booking. When I got to the yard, I found the fueling towers full and lined up. Looked like the fuel crisis reborn. Would have made a nice picture, until I noticed the car.
"Ah. A fellow Railfan."
Nope. He's a cop. As I get turned around, I notice he's a Plainfield officer, alittle out of Juristiction. But why chance it. So I slip away carefully (no ticket/warning. Phew!), and head across the bridge in hopes on spotting a telltale yellow roof. No sign of mom's train. Neat shot of the Hump engines working, but I was on a main road. the switcher may have been buried deeper in the yard. But I notice headlights coming into the yard. I try get turned around, and find a nice little inlet. right near the track. I hear him, but I figure he's still far enough down I can park car in the buisness lot adjacent. No sooner than I put it in reverse, but there's a KCS grey ghost and a Southern Belle on point of the Schnieder Express right in front of me and gone. He was in yard limits and hauling aft. And was gone by the time my Easyshare was on. At this point, I decide that the RR gods didn;t intend for me to share any pictures, So I came home.

Huh? Rob, I didn't think I sent you anything (other than one of those plans you had posted, maybe... Maybe email or PM me what you mean.
Good afternoon guys, cloudy, raw, misty day today, but I did manage to get the last 5 cart loads of hemlock mulch spread around the landscape. There is a heavy mist now and very foggy, so I got this done in time.
We had finally replaced our old box spring and mattress this week, and got one of those Tempurpedic Swedish foam jobs that the wife has been after for a year. Last night it got a test. Let me tell you guys, our old 25 year old mattress was just fine for me, but last night I went to sleep at 11:30 and never awoke until 8!!! That is NOT me!! These mattresses are all that they say they are, they mold to your body pressure points and you sleep without rolling over and over all night.
JIM: I don't mind the work outside, it is like Ryan said, it is nice to work outside and it "is" a great form of exercise. Diabetes II has been in my family ( father's side) for at least 3 generations back. I am the first male not to get it by age 50 and I am now 69 and not a trace of it. But, I am far lighter than all my ancestors at 185 lbs. they all went well over 200.
RYAN: I'm with you buddy, I love to work outside, great exercise and really enjoy the sense of accomplishment in the yard and veggie garden. It has worked for me.
ROB: We received only 0.14" of rain last night, but there is a real heavy mist here now, and the rains will be here until it clears on Tuesday. The big LOW that caused all the flooding has stalled out in the North Atlantic somewhere off Nova Scotia, and that has all the weather systems backed up across the country. Thanks for the offer to help Rob, I know that if we lived close, you are the kind of guy that would help in a heartbeat. I appreciate that!!
JEFF: I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your cousin in the accident, please know that our thoughts and prayers are for you and your family members buddy !!!
Later guys,
Jeff
sorry about your cousin my thoughts are with you and your family at this time

P.C great news on your wife and son should be back in the squad soon probably could run rings around me as is.
Now it's(drumroll, please) SLEETING. Sticking to the pretty green grass, too.
***Jim, I was being "funny", or at least that was my intent. Now, if your really do create a track plan with 45% grades & un-bumpered tracks off the ends of the table....(I'm kidding again)
***Terry, sleet is kinda neat, as long as your home is warm and you don't have to go out in it.
Question, does anyone have this book: "The Model Railroader's Guide to Industries Along the Tracks" (by Jeff Wilson) and if so, what do you think of it? Does it cover the actual trackwork, including switches, etc... for those industries?
Rob
Jeff sorry to hear take care my man its always hurts and is hard to believe.
Hi all been a while been busy things moving along (sometimes feels like backwards but thats the way it is . Getting home fianace isn't fun lol thats what I'm in the middle of now . We went back to original home seeing that the other already had a bid and remembered that county assment is usually 75 to 80% of accual value so the price is right in line accually. So were going for the house with 1300 sq feet and has 3 br and 1.5 bath with a den with a fireplace in it.

Evening Gang:
Jeff my deepest sympathys and prayers. It's hard to loose a friend so young.
PC your son is lucky to have such friends. My best to your wife also.
Rob actually the Milw Rd had a passenger train that ran to Ontanogon which is up in that country. It wasn't a Hiawatha thourh. Of course it's my world so I'll make it so.
Dick I guess we need to slow down abit. Any idea on how to do that? I guess the price of diesel may slow me down some but it could make things harder also.
No Mrring today again. I did get to the basement but not to Mrr. It seems that the mice have returned. I put out sticky traps baited with penut butter. I howp that they get caught soon so I can clean up the layout and maybe do some work on it.
Time for bed. Speaking of bed I've been thinking about getting one of those Temperpedic beds. If it works that well I guess it will slow me down. I just won't get out of bed.
Good Night All
Last coffee for me before hitting the sack.
RT: You missed telling us about the most important part of the new house...does it have a basement???? MRR layout space ???
PAUL: Everyone who is working still, thinks that when one retires, you have all this free time to lay around and get bored with life. We both know, and many of the other guys who are retired know, that this is just not the case. I am far busier in retirement then I ever thought I would be. I am amassed at how fast the day and time goes by.
I pray for all you people in the midwest tonight, there is some real nasty weather out there and more tornado warnings. What a line of storms headed east from the Gulf to Illinois.
Bon Soir,
Night all see you later

GOOD MORNING from FAIRMOUNT, GA.
Bad case of insomnia. Tooth ache has not helped any. Self medicated with penicillin for 10 days now (just like my wife did for hers) but it is getting unbearable. Time to make a Dentist appointment and have it yanked. Orajel is losing effectiveness. Oh well.
grayfox1119 wrote: Last coffee for me before hitting the sack.RT: You missed telling us about the most important part of the new house...does it have a basement???? MRR layout space ???
Not in the south sir. There is a craw space but its nasty with a dirt floor so it looks like one of the bedrooms will be the train room. Yes there will be a train room sooner or later.
Good morning all,
What a mess; someone dumped 1,000 gallons of motor oil in a creek, I just spent the last 48 hours cleaning up the mess, couldn't find the responsible party. Lost 8 Canada geese and I have one walking around covered in oil, but can't catch her. Waiting on a call from a local animal rescue group so we can grab her and give her a quick bath.
Jeff, I'm very sorry for your loss.
Car insurance, same here, I have had State Farm since 1988 and nobody can beat them on price or service. I did the thing on the internet where several insurance companies compete for your business and nobody could beat my current rate. I get in an accident and all I have to do is drive/tow my truck to a repair shop and get it fixed. State farm only cares that I got it fixed.

Morning, Janie - I'll have some waffles, couple of strips of that near-bacon stuff, glass of milk, glass of Ed's OJ, and a cup of coffee in a Santa Fe mug. (oh yes, please leave one pot here at the table) Thanks!
Jeff, sorry to hear about your losing your cousin. Will keep you and the rest of the family in my Hope your weather dries out by tomorrow, at least.
The rains moved through here yesterday, and as of last night's 10 o'clock weather, were not far from Garry's area (and heading east). Looked like Louisiana might still be getting soaked, though, so watch yourself there, Jeff.
Dick, you might get more rain up your way in the next few days, too. And that new bed sounds really great for those ORF naps, huh?
Terry, hope your weather evens out and gets nicer than that sleet (soon).
PC, I forgot to say (as others have) that it's great that you son has true friends in the neighborhood. Besides, he has to stay in shape for next basketball season, right?

Rob - d'oh! I finally realized you were joking - right after I had posted my reply and looked again. (Mental note to self: add in 45 percent grades and 'off-ramps' for Rob's cars on the plans...) Man, if that toothache is continuing, it might be worth the trip and the nuisance of having the dentist get a look at fixing it. Especially when it's keeping you up nights.
On the 'Industries Along the Track' book (I'm guessing you mean vol. 1, which covers oil, coal, grain, auto manufacturing and a few other types), it does have some 'suggested layout' ideas, but they're pretty basic sketches (like a 45 degree view from above). There are more of pics of what the buildings look like and of the cars used for that industry, etc. (along with text info). I have that book, so email me if you have more questions on it. I looked at the second volume when it came out, but most of the industries in vol. 2 were too new for my RR's time period. Haven't seen vol. 3 yet to find out what it covers (and era).
RT, hope you and the money folks get all that worked out on the house. But the important question for us is: Can the attic or spare bedroom be laid out properly for your layout? Any new word from VA on your job yet, by the way?
Paul, for your mice problem maybe BridgeTom could rent you one of his cats (of course, you'd have to lock up your cabeese until they caught all the mice, but...). At least you got to the basement this week. Maybe next weekend you'll be able to go down and do some MRR w**k there.
Gav - 12 days off? Heck, you could have your layout half done with all that much time! (Oh, you need to eat and sleep and get a few other things done? Shucky-durn...)
Last night I went to a concert at church by Scott Wesley Brown, which was really nice. He, another guitar player, a pianist (and her daughter who sang with them) and (cellist or bassist, couldn't tell exactly), playing newer arrangements of a lot of older ('classic') church hymns. Very pleasant and touching.
Well, I'm on-call today for 24 hours (until 8 a.m. Sunday), so I'd best get to my breakfast, just in case the electronic tether on my belt goes off. Hoping to swing by the LHS today and see what he has in. Hoping for my MRR'ing stimulus deposit to arrive next Friday...
Blessings on your weekend,
I'm supose to start with the VA on the 12th but have asked if I can start next starting date as have a delay in getting my house so If they say yes it will be the 27 as the 26th is a holiday. If not I'm not sure what will happen already talked with present employer and there willing for me to stay an extra 2 weeks .
the attic have not been in but theres only a small entry to get into it. as a spare bedroom yes I'll make it do it may only be about 10x12 (not sure didn't measure bedrooms) I do know thou they are bigger than this cracker box I'm in now 7'x8' but at least the desk won't be in there also it will be just trains the desk is going into the 3rd bedroom as will storage and probally wifes and mine new side business basicly she wants to goto yard sales (get the leftovers for nothin) and auctions to get stuff and then ebay it.
Good morning......cloudy, 42F, raw and an easterly wind coming inland 50 miles from the cold Atlantic ( ocean temp at Boston harbor buoy is only 47F ). So today I have the latest Trains and MRR mag to read that just arrived, so this will be an inside day today.
RT: No basement....bummer, you would have had a big space to use. Why don't they have basements down South, especially with the threat of tornados? I can see not having any in New Orleans, they are already below sea level, or Florida which has a water table just under the houses, but the other states should not have that problem unless they live in swamp of low areas. Even with ledge up here they either blast it away or build over it with a basement and fill around it.
JIM: Yes, that front is moving east and tomorrow will bring more rains. We had 0.25" overnight, but tomorrow will bring a few downpours.
ROB: Ouch !! You must be one miserable guy today. Are you sure that the tooth cannot be saved by doing a root canal? With todays technology, there is absolutely no reason to lose a tooth unless it is a wisdom tooth ( waste of time and money to fill or keep those, only Neandertals needed those ) My strong advice to you and all the rest of you guys, please go at least twice a year for cleaning. Gum disease is bad news and has been linked to heart problems as well as diabetes and other maladies. Besides that, later in life you may need gum surgery, and it is very expensive, over $6000, all because you don't go quarterly or semi annually for cleaning......just not worth it Rob, been there, done it!
LEE: I hope you catch the fool/s who dumped that oil in the water.....tar and feather the idiots if you catch them.
What? No basement? Don't you want your own in house swimming pool?
Won't be around today. We have termites flying. And they apperently like Olive garden, as I had to pull one out of my leftovers. Mom;s setting bombs, and we;re gouing to call Terminex and have them come BACK fix this probelm They were just out a week or two back.
