***Lee/Paul, something more like this? I forgot to add one turnout in the upper right to perhaps lead to a second door. (Note, the added outside loop is for potentially running a Bigboy down the roadWhistling [:-^])

Good morning all,

Rob, I would recommend adding left hand turnouts to the outer track at the corners so if you add another door to make a L shaped layout you can just slide the new section up and join the two doors right at the turnout rather than cutting out sections of track later.  If you added the turnouts to all 4 corners you would be very versatile if you moved the layout to another room.

***Lee, agreed! I'll be using Unitrack, and they have expansion sections (3" - 4 1/3")  which would be ideal for connecting up two doors.

Now would that be from the world where the staples actually live, or from the world thats ruled by Staples thats just outside the orbit of Office Mart?  They're two sister planets, but they're very different.  I find those that are from the world ruled by Staples to be kind of impersonal, while the world where staples actually live is really quite a helpful place. Good morning, I think I will have what Jeff is eating, SOS, we used to get that quite often in the Army, I liked it, others hated it. They don't know what their missing right Jeff ?

Records are being broken all over the country thi morning for record low temps, and parts of the Rockies are getting 3 feet of snow. It is 44F here this morning under clear skies. Northern New England, way up near the Canadian border at Fort Kent, is flooded at the St. John's river. Too much snow then heavy rains and warm temps.

Canadian Hemlock mulch is arriving today, 6 yards, so I'll be a little busy spreading that around this morning, then I need to change the oil and do all the annual maintenance to the power equipment.

Locally, the P&W RR ( Providence and Worcester ) just announced that they will now be carrying automobiles on their lines in car carriers. They already carry Ethanol and coal which has been very profitable for the interstate business. They have some nice looking locomotives, I really like their paint scheme, and now many are coming out in models by the MRR mfgrs. Gee, I model the pre 1960 era, now what am I going to do???

LEE: I will have to try that track preservative. That is a great way to protect the tracks with summer humidity on the way.

JEFF: 1 HP motor is a good size to pump that water around. What is the pool size, 16X32 or 40?

J.P. :  Nice shots of you guys at Fenway Park, and what a haul of MRR stuff!!! Thanks for supporting the MA local economy too!!! Of course you know you made Ed very sad, he is so far away from Fenway and the Red Sox. The only way he will get to see them is when they come to Texas to play the Ranger, and that is quite a drive north.

Later,

Nice haul there John! I did not know that Model Power made so many "Built Ups" these days, you got a lot of structures there for the layout now!

If you have ever had the uninvited Mr. Murphy come visit your layout when demonstrating it to friends or family I hope you can relate to my story, I just posted it in the General Discussion section here: http://cs.trains.com/forums/1429505/ShowPost.aspx

Hey Dick Canadian Hemlock mulch eh! I have a stand of Hemlock trees on the west side of my propery line. Not sure what specific species of Hemlock, but I love how they look, nice little pine cones too.

Oh, and since JP is buying today, I'll have the Thursday Blue Plate Special for lunch today.....

Chicken Fried Steak

Mashed Potatoes and Gravy

Green Beans with Almonds

Sweet Tea

Chocolate Lava Cake

Happy Eatin'!

RYAN: Canadian Hemlock are real nice evergreens, and they can be used for a hedge also. Then can be trimmed to the height that you want, and they make a beautiful thick hedge. I use this hedge around three sides of my pool. The mulch is great for around all the plants, but it is getting expensive, $38 a yard this year, I can remember paying $23 a yard back about 8 years ago.

CNCHARLIE: A bit cold up there today I see........Summer is coming, just hold on, but Spring will be very short.

COLBY: 8 more weeks of school I see, well when I read your email, I thought to myself, here I am at 69 wishing I was back in school again, and here you are wishing your were out. Colby my dear friend, you won't believe us now, but trust me, the day will come when you WILL look back upon these years in school and really miss them and your friends in school. Don't rush life, it goes by fast enough.

Time to get back outside, oil is draining from tractor and the mower bed needs re-painting and the blades sharpened.

Quite right. I like it with sausage gravy.

You hit it right on the nose with 16X32. To be exact, 16 wide X 32 long X 10 deep. That's a LOT of water!

I've been out running errands today. Got some bills paid this morning, went and saw my foot doctor (he's very happy with the progress I'm making) and I got a haircut. My father was comparing me to the Geico caveman. Then, I snuck off to Alexandria. While there I hit Hare's Art and Hobby, picked up an Athearn rtr Rail-box boxcar and a Digitrax DZ143PS decoder (He had ordered some for a customer and had gotten one too many), Hobby Lobby, picked up a Bachmann Silver Series UP (that's gonna change pretty quick) gondola, and Micheal's, I picked up two 0.50 oz bottles of powdered pigment (sunny yellow and white).

Just finished puting up on the-bay my Atlas F9 (Bluebonnet), Atlas FM C-Liner (UP) and both Model Power FA-2's (Warbonnets). This will start my Intermountain F7 fund, unless I need to put the My 2 cents [2c] elsewhere. Weaning off diesels may prove similar to caffeine, eventually I fall back into needing some. Evening Gang: Today was one of those nice days that I didn't get a lot done. Mary Ann and I went in for breakfast and then did some chasing for food, and feed. After we got back we had to go back to town to John and Dianes for lunch. She cooked up a great lunch of chicken and pasta. Really good eating. I did get out to the barn and finish up with the light fixtures. Now I have to just put up a couple more over the tablw saw and one of two over the center work table.

Jerry thanks for the words about your cataracs. It has me abit worried. I'm not comfortable having someone messing around with my eyes.

Rob It seems that you have the standard case of Modelrailroadingitis. If it runs on rails you gotta have it. Just look at me with an iron ore hauling railroad and buying all that Hiawatha stuff.

Jeff the Gieco caveman, huh. Well that could be a good deal. I hear that they pay pretty good.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

TOTP Again????? I think I will need a part time job here at the Diner the way you chow hounds eat !!

Ohhh man I need to get some rest, quite a hard day outside today. Worked on the old 1980 Wheel Horse tractor for a good part of the day, scraping the mower bed, repainting it, had a tough time getting the three blades off, then sharpening them with many nicks in them. But the fun came when I tried to use the grease gun. It seems that one of my sons reloaded the hand gun last Fall and did not removed the end seal. He wondered why he could pump it forever and not get any grease out. Well today I found out where all the grease went. After I removed the top of the gun, I saw the end cap still in place, so I removed the cap and there was no grease. It had all been pumped back into the rear spring plunger. When I pulled back the ejector handle, I became the greasee. What a cotton pickin mess!!!! Eventually I got everything done and was ready to call it a day at 4pm when a truck arrived with 6 yards of mulch. With rain coming over night, I wanted to get as much spread as I could, so I managed to load the 10 cu ft yard dump cart 6 times before calling it quits. I can barely move. What doesn't hurt I can't feel. See Colby, this is what happens when your 69, so stay young.

JEFF: Nice haul today, and nice hair do too. I thought you were going to interview for the job on TV of the Caveman's partner??? Just think of all the royalty $$ you would have!! 16X32 pool has about 19,000 gallons of water, the 1 HP pump will handle that just fine. I had a 1/2 HP the first time, but it was undersized I felt, so when it died ( a snake went into the motor and got fried ) I replaced with a 1 HP also.

I am off to bed....see you guys at breakfast,

I got two new cars today.

The first is a rtr Athearn RailBox boxcar that I picked up at Hare's Art and Hobby in Alexandria.

The second is a Bachmann Silver Series UP gondola that I picked up at Hobby Lobby, also in Alexandria. It won't stay UP for long. That's a promise.

Morning, Zoe - I'll have a glass of Ed's OJ,  and a helping of Bill's breakfast buffet, plus a cup of that coffee, too, please.

Oh yes, and one of those cinnamon rolls, too.

Thanks!

Looks like a wild and windy day today in Cape G.-land. Shock [:O] There's still a lot of wind this a.m., and the weatherguessers are talking about a squall line coming through this afternoon. If it's sunny during the day (hopefully not), that may give the storm front more oomph, and possibly stir up hail and/or tornadoes. So those of you east of me, may want to pray for a cloudy day. But after the front gets through, it should clear up by Sunday afternoon here, and be nice again.

Dick, sounds like it's time for you to rest today - since you might not be able to get out of bed anyway, after what your yesterday was like! Black Eye [B)] You and Paul have been working totally too hard for ORF's, y'know...

Gav, hope you get to enjoy your holiday off. Thumbs Up [tup] Any MRR'ing time in there?

Rob, got your emails and will be working on that some over the weekend. Cute greyhounds you have there!

Jeff, I'm sure you feel lighter after that haircut. Wink [;)] Good looking cars there (even before you repaint the UP gon).

Colby, I'd second (third?) what the others said - might as well enjoy the days now. Makes the time pass easier, too. Yeah!! [yeah] How's your layout been coming along - I seem to recall you were in process of considering some mods to the tracks last time you were in the Diner, correct?

PC, how're your wife and son coming along? Doing handsprings yet?Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I'd best get back to that W-thing here. I'll try to get back this afternoon for my usual RBF, Zoe.

Blessings,

No, no handsprings yet.  My wife did walk halfway around our lake the other day before I had to go and get her scooter to get her back home.  We have a sidewalk around the lake, so it's pretty easy walking.  My son was out with the boys from the neighborhood yesterday shooting hoops.  They would throw him the ball and let him shoot it, then throw it back.  Meanwhile they were shooting their own balls too.  They even played a little two on one.  The deal was (and they all came up with this), my son would be the second man on a team, and if his teamate passed it to him, he could be blocked with hands, but no pushing or rough play since his balance is not all that great in his leg braces.  So, he got to play some B-ball!  Made his day!
