Good morning ........
Rob ...actually, it's Tom who is thinking of selling locos............ I have more old locos than I need, but each has its "story". It would be hard to part with them.
Tom......... I should have mentioned the cover on my book, Articulated Steam Lomotives of North America. by Robert LeMassena. It has a Rio Grande challenger 3707. The distintive front end ends of those challengers made them unlike any others.
Happy Model Railroading, everybody

Yeah, I know Abbott and Costello. Or at least more than others my age. What did I miss? He should be on second base? Your talking about this bit right here
Dad was into those skits, and he and some friends did a community theatre production set on Pearl Harbor as a news broadcast on a radio show. They did some of the classic skits, era correct or not, and inturrupted with bullitens from Pearl Harbor and from responses around the country later on. Dad was sound effects, and I also remember him doing Magee's closet.
Odd, It won;t let me quote ya Jeff. But that;s the same link I gots'

Last night we had worked our way to the South where we would have been nice and snug hove to do Science but as luck would have it we got tasked to proceed to go 90 nm to the west as an Emergency Beacon was going off and someone might have been in trouble. Turns out it was a Sailboat. Anyway the old girl steamed headlong into the 20' + seas quite well with winds gusting to 50 knots. Earl Grey was tasked out of Dartmouth along with a Hercules Aircraft, HMCS Montreal, and a Cormorant Helicopter. Helicopter got there first and lifted the guy to safety and we got stood down after 5 hours of pounding...
So how was your evening?
As for the Gondolas... man you have patience! I have about 80 but in different road names 20 of which are M.E.S.S. I have another 10 left to do and if i schedule accordingly i should get to them in about 4 years.

Good morning! Rain and more rain. Very cloudy here this morning with low hanging fog. West of us got flooded yesterday in Palmer at the Diamond, and today the Berkshires, Vermont and Eastern upper NY are gettingh 6+ inches of rain in some places. Will this front EVER move east? Today we are due for another 1" +/-, but tomorrow as the front finally arrives over us, 3 to 4" of rain, and winds in excess of 50 mph. With the ground completely soaked, there will be uprooted trees in the strong winds.
Obviously nothing doing outside today, so I have many MRR books to read including latest DCC book and also industries along the tracks volumes 1,2,3.
JOHNBOY: What on earth is going on with those diesels?? What are they burning? Or, are the fuel filters dirty. Great photo however!!!
JEFF: Those youngsters have to get up pretty early to try to pull the wool over your eyes re. "whose on 1st".
J.R.: Have you had to bail out yet? It is now raining cats and dogs here.
FERGIE: I would guess that it meant the HP and the model series. I could cheat and look it up on the internet, but I took a guess.
( For you youngsters in the Diner, raining cats and dogs dates back several centuries to when the farmers actually had sod roofs. The cats and dogs would sleep up on the roofs, as they love high places. But when it rained real hard for too long, the roofs would give way under the animals and hence the term, raining cats and dogs, literally. )

Yep, that was a 6th grade lesson. But I heard it that the cats were after mice in the sod roof, and that the dogs were after the cats. We asked her why it isn't raining cats and mice and dogs. I don't remember her answer.

Rob, sorry to hear about your shoulder
"His sailing vessel was on its way to the Azores islands in Portugal when it overturned while being buffeted by winds and heavy waves from the storm" Sounds like he needs to sit through one of my NAV classes. N.S. And Azores don't even look alike.
You can't complain to me about 20' seas. I drove a 44' MLB in 35+ seas for 13 years. You're in a 200'+ ship . The gondolas were everything from New Jersey Rail to UP so I painted a few of them in L. S. & W. colors. It really doesn't take long to apply decals, but I found it's hard to get started applying decals.

FERGIE, I believe that the 251 stands for 251 cubic inches per cylinder. The "B" will mean second series of engine production.
Sorry you had to take that extra pounding last evening, but always glad to hear you are doing well.
Grayfox, So glad you liked the picture. ALCOs true to form, what else can you say? Fellas, I'm really sorry about the multiple entry for that picture. Not sure how that happened. I guess my cut off fingers were stuttering.
GARRY, Glad to hear that you got the book, "This Train is Bound for Glory" It really does look like a good read and lots of history doesn't it ??

Afternoon all. Sunny and just a tad smoky out today--high of 92, but it's predicted to be triple digits by the weekend. Oh, joy, oh rapture! Smoke is from a grass-fire in the south area, a little 1-1/2 acre job that got put out in about ten minutes, but of course the smoke headed toward MY neighborhood (Hey, Tom lives there, let's bug him!).
Lowell has decided that he definitely does NOT like Daddy giving him saline injections, so I phoned the Vet and they said to bring him in every morning. Luckily, the Vet is about a mile away, so it's not too much trouble. He's eating me out of house and home on Gerber's, had to go in and buy a case of the stuff today. The clerk at the supermarket just stared at me and said, "You're not REALLY a new father, are you?" I grinned back and said, "I'm a musician. We can do ANYTHING." I think she's probably STILL figuring that one out, LOL!
Only problem with the Gerber's is keeping Spooky out of it. She thinks it's for her (she think's EVERYTHINGS for her, anyway.). But as long as I can tempt her with an ear of corn while Lowell's chowing down (4 times a day), she's happy. Lowell seems pretty chipper in the morning and evening, I don't think he knows that he's sick. Afternoons of course, they're ALL sacked out, plotting of how they can mess up the house after I go to bed.
Fergie: I'll almost bet that it's loose wiring on the motor. Generally speaking, Major Rebuild and Brass are not usually words I'd use together--as far as electrical problems--unless said brass is recieved in pieces. And yours looks as if it came nice and shiny-new. Generally speaking, brass is VERY forgiving to work on. Even that 'basket-case' Yellowstone I got some months ago went back together just beautifully. The stuff is BUILT! However, if that Canon motor of yours seems sluggish (which some of them can get), take my advice, and hike the new loco down to your LHS and look for a NWSL can that will fit. Those babies have GUTS! And new cans are easy to install, just use some silicone gel to mount it, and not only are you in business, you're also ready for a DCC conversion if you ever decide.
Jeff: That A&C routine is still one of the funniest I've ever heard. And I think I was about 4 or 5 when I first heard it.
Rob: Hope the shoulder is a simple muscle-spasm, they usually heal up in about a week. If not, see your Dr, and have him check for tendons and ligaments. When we get to an--AHEM!--'certain' maturity, our bodies have this certain non-subtle way of telling us, "Not now, Dude. Maybe later." Believe me, I know!
Well, that's about it for now. Gotta go give Lowell his mid-afternoon Gerber's. Would you believe that I have a cat that doesn't like CHICKEN? Never heard of such a thing. Why, it's positively UN-FELINE!
Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a small steak, some veggies, and a glass of wine, please.
Jerry, is that chair your one for the blazing sunny days? Should be good for some shade; and how 'porta-potty' is that?
Tom, good to see Lowell's back home and getting fat and sassy again (or would that be fatter and sassier?...) How long do you have to keep his mouth shut to get him to swallow the amoxycillin, or do you hide it in his food (though I've heard about pets finding anything non-food and spitting it out/leaving it in the dish)? That is one whopper of a lawsuit on UP, all right. Oh, you had me worried there for a minute when you said you were selling off some locos ("The YELLOWSTONES? Ohmygosh, Tom's gone bonkers from the heat!"). Then I saw that it was your 'smaller' locos. (Whew!)
Rob, good to hear you're getting ready to have 'em start up on the house. An outdoor grill sounds good, yep. Dinner is in how many months? If you have enough rocks, maybe you could build the outside of it with them and line the inside with fire-resistant bricks. One idea, anyway. But that's only after you stop tearing yourself apart, fella. Got to take better care of your body, Rob. They might not have all the spare parts you need.
JR, great to hear you're about to have 'em get started on your place, too. Any idea how long that will take, with running things by the code and zoning board, inspectors, etc.? I've heard that building/re-doing a house in town is a tad more complicated than out in the country. Hopefully you won't have any more snags in the process.
Paul, messing with the pump and all in 100 degree weather does not sound like my idea of un, but hey, different strokes for different folks...
Jeff, good to hear that your Internet has picked up to usable speed again.
Well, after my trip to the lumber yard about a month ago, a couple of days ago I stopped by the storage unit, and found I have some more lumber there. Hey, I might have enough for my next expansion of the layout after the one I had already mentioned!
Hadn't seen the news earlier tonight - how's Dolly been doing? One site I checked showed it looking like she was tracking into Mexico more than the US. Ed may have to watch out or he and Fran will get drenched, perhaps. Paul, will you be seeing any rain from the edges of Dolly up your way?
I did a little checking on internet today, and was wondering about broadband wireless, but found out that (for Verizon, who I had thought had a good deal, only offers that price when you have a cell plan with them also. More looking to do, I suppose.
Well, I'll be working on my steak a while. After that, I'll be heading home to crunch some numbers for my spending this year and tuning up my budget a bit. I'll see everyone in the morning.
Blessings and a good evening's rest,
