Strange. When I rode the Tri-rail, it was blue, green, and red with silver as the primary. It was beautiful.

It almost reminds me of Lionel's "Girls Train" set. It came with a pink engine, and pastel colored freight cars. It was so ugly that nobody wanted them, not even the girls. I recently saw one on eBay that had been bid up over $5000, they are very rare today, because nobody wanted them back then![:)]

You bet, dougal. NS has a lot of high-nosed GPs down in the yard but I mostly see big, wide nosed CSX diesels and CP Rail SD40-2s.

BNSF "Premium Heritage": Too gaudy and too "busy" looking, the "Empire Builder" from hades..... I like the ATSF scheme, I like the GN scheme, but NOT both on the same locomotive at the same time.

B & O 'Sunburst' in dark blue and yellow. The paint looked like it had been slapped on with a heavy-duty paint roller. The old black and gold stripes that followed the contours of the Fs and Es really looked nice, but that Sunburst just looked......well, wrong!

I'm rather sensitive to the particular hues of blue, and the B&O blue is definitely different from Conrail's. I'm a professional designer, paid for my graphic skills, by the way. I just can't stomach the super-saturated bright blues, they just seem artificial (nature doesn't produce too many "smurf-blue" things, so there's a psychological reaction to a Conrail blue that is different from other colors). Intense blue conveys, to me, a show-off-ishness, it is trying (too hard in my opinion) to impress.

That's why I've liked black so much, because it does just the opposite; it's the ultimate of understatement, it tries *not* to impress. By doing so, it conveys to me an inner confidence. N&W knew it did not need to impress because so much of its revenue came from online coal mines, captive service which was unlikely to go to a competitor, and it wasn't until after merging both Wabash and Nickle Plate in 1964 that N&W had to compete for midwest traffic; that was when their blue ("strive to impress" color) scheme came about.

Perhaps our color preferences say a lot more about our own personalities than we realize. I'm definitely the type to shy away from, or not care much about, accolades, not caring what others think about me.

I beg to differ with you "Oh Mighty One", The NYC Black with the Gray Lightning Stripe, was one of the most striking of all paint scheme in the years of the "Great Ones".....NYC, PENNSY, PENN CENTRAL, NEW HAVEN, D&H, and all the other Great Class Ones.....Yaaaaaaaa[:D][:D][:D]

The topic is just "least favorite" , so that, to me, never equates with intense dislike, or any other strong negative emotion.

For instance, my "least favorite" beer is Genesee, but if that's all you have in your frig', I'll gladly help you prevent it spoiling any further than it already is.[:D][:D] Especially if you are the son-in-law or brother-in-law that drank my Labatt's Blue...YOU KNOW who you are ! [:X][;)]

I could choose a similar analogy, using Supermodels as an example, but that would not be appropriate for a married guy to even THINK stuff like that, on Valentine's day.[:0][:0]

SO...hopefully I offend not too badly with this: My "least" favorite colors are the ones that look "out of whack" in many settings, like Rock Island or Boston & Maine blues, or NYC turquoise boxcars.
