I just fimished this multi-media model and it is superb. The best resin model I have built, the instructions are excellent and contributed greatly to successful completion of the model.
Does the company have a website or a catalog? I like the looks of the NS boxcar and might be inclined to get some.

Hi,
Heres the website http://www.railyardmodels.com/ They have several different kits. I also have a covered hopper from them but haven't built it yet.
Better then Sunshine?
Thier kits do look top notch. I wish they did some steam era cars. Sunshine is so difficult to buy from but the kits are top notch too.
You did an awesome job putting that together. You should be proud of that car.

Hey
Did you buy this direct or through a hobby shop? How was the kit to build, any comments? Dare I ask are you a craftsman modeller? Some cast resin I just can't do. Also is this the same company that was at Detriot NMRA national show selling $50 USD covered hoppers?? What was the name of that company?

I'll try to answer your questions. Railyard models has an online store. The kits are in the $35-$50 range and include everything but the couplers. I don't know if any hobby shops carry them or not.
I am an experienced modeler mostly in plastic aircraft and ships. This is the best resin kit I've seen to date. The instructions lead you step by step through the entire build. You don't need any more special tools than any plastic modeler would have (a photo-etch bender would help but is not necessary). You can build it to any level of detail you want. The hardest part is the underside brake detail and bending the end ladders. I put about 30 hours in this model.
I hope this helped you.

If so please post photos
Thanks
These kits from Rail Yard Models are light years ahead of ANYTHING done by Sunshine or anyone else. They are designed with one-piece bodies so devoid of flash, you would swear they are styrene. The instructions come on a computer disc or you can download them in PDF form. They are only available direct from Gene on his website and at selected shows he attends.
They should not even be in the same class as all other resin kits. It is good that his are all fairly modern prototypes versus Sunshine, F&C and others. I have built several from ALL the different resin makers and it is so enjoyable to build his kits. I just wish he had more time to develop models. He comes out with about 1 new car a year. He just announced a new tank car in the last month.

My goodness there is some wonderful modeling shown on railyard's website, both their own assembled kits but also the photos submitted by customers.

They wholesale to hobby shops too. I had my local dealer put a call in, and within a few hours had an account. Now I gotta think about how much I want to order and what to order. The era is mid 90's to present any ideas??

Well if I modeled your era (too new for my era) I have long been fascinated by these cars (the photo is from Railyard's website)

I wish he would put out some steam era cars to compete with Sunshine and F&C. I never have had good luck with F&C. I have got several kits that had unuseable castings missing parts etc. I have had much better luck with Sunshine. Sunshine has a large selection of off beat cars that I enjoy a lot. Again, they have the most frustrating sales method I have every seen. Do you own Details West?

Here's my boxcar finished with light weathering.
Do you own Details West?
Please Explain. They have kits??
No, I just empty the trash and scrub the floors.........LOL!
Paul Federiconi is the owner and operator of the machine shop. I just help out.....

I have one hiding out in my workshop somewhere. It's about half done, and nearly ready for paint. I have the older-style kit, with flat carbody castings. Anyway, very little time was spent on cleaning up the parts. There was *very* little flash, and everything fit like it was supposed to. The only problem I ran into was the coupler pads. On mine, the lids kept coming off--they're supposed to press-fit--so I had to use a 2-56 screw to hold them in place. Other than that, RYM did an awesome job on this one.
