Consider the words of Amy Jo Kim, recognized expert on building a strong
"community" internet presence:
In a growing Web community it's natural
for people with some initiative and creativity to want to form their own
self-defined groups, without much involvement of the community leaders.
You should welcome the emergence of these groups, because it means that
you've created an environment where people feel a sense of belonging and
ownership. You should also support and promote their efforts, because
your members will form their strongest, most enduring relationships in small,
focused groups, and these relationships are the glue that will ultimately
keep people involved in your community.

That's true Ken.  But here is another way of looking at it...from the customer service point of view.  Model Railroader IS because of the ongoing support of US!  Without us Model Railroader isn't.  Without us the staff of MRR are looking for work.  Without us there is no MRR forum.  We might have to live by MRR's rules on this forum but without us MRR doesn't live.  In reality it's OUR GAME because without us who is supporting Model Railroader? Just my My 2 cents <img src=" border="0" width="23" height="15" /> as alwaysSign - Ditto [#ditto] Very well put! and i am glad i am not the only one around here who thinks this way, and i do think the electronics/electrical section would be a really good idea also, so that is another vote on the yes side, and yeah that whole 70th anniversary thing can go, frankly as big as this country is and the fact that we are talking one box car, you probably have a better shot at winning the lotto then seeing it.

Not at all.

I actually think that the electronics forum is a good idea.

I just wonder why ideas, good or bad, always degenerate into a long ongoing argument between two or three people, none of whom have the ability to impliment the idea.

If it were 5 or 6 (or even more) people arguing with Bergie, that would be different.  He actualy seems to be a decision maker.

Sorry if my posts are sometimes lacking in diplomacy.  I recognize that that sometimes throws gasoline on the fire.  It is a weakness of mine.  I'm working on it.

The idea of the specialized electrical area is very good actually. As stated many times above , good helpful threads sink too fast. I would love to see the 70th forum go bye bye , totally useless.  DCC, electroncs, and wiring in it's own area would really help all of us. I haven't moved to DCC yet , I'm knowledable about electronics etc. but I know I'll need and appreciate help when I make that move this spring.  After 30 years and age 60 I'm going to rip all the wiring out and start over, because I want to . I really want the wiring to be new and neat, Not the rats nest I have under there now.  So good idea I hope MR listens.

A reworking of the forums would be nice.

A how-to and where to post forum
Like how to post pictures and what forum to post your question in.

General Discussions

Electronics/DCC

Layout Construction and Room design

Photo ops

with sticky's in all

The 70th anniversary forum could be moved into the General Discussions forum as a sticky

You can add my vote in favor of a new sub-topic heading for DCC/Electonics/Computer Control in the Model Railroader section.

I don't think it would dilute the forums any, as a matter of fact it would help to focus the content better for those who need assistance or provide information on the electronics side of the hobby.

For what it's worth...my My 2 cents [2c]

I have an idea:

How about a forum titled "Dear Bergie".

In it anyone can post a thread with a wish or a suggestion and all the rest of us can click a yes or no vote button.  Then Bergie can look at the numbers and see if more people are for or against it.

I think it is a good idea to have a sub-forum for electrical and electronics type discussions. As has been mentioned several times Electrical is a basic building block of ALL layouts so it generates a pretty large thread count. Good quality inquiries seem to get back paged very quickly because almost every aspect of the hobby is sharing the same GD forum. It would make the forum more user friendly.

How's the weather up there in BC.  It's 55F (I don't know what that is in C) under clear blue skies here in Charlotte.

Allright then, from now on you shall be known as Cynical Selector, LOL, ok sorry that was some what lame humor, and actually i did not read a lot of cynicism in Phoebe Vets reply, frankly i think it's a good idea, and i have to say that he is also right in his first post to this thread, a few of us going back and forth on the merits of an idea will do nothing to see it come to fruition, so i am going to contact Bergie and suggest he take a look at this thread.

First, apology most definately accepted. Smile [:)]

Second, sometimes "lack of diplomacy" is MY middle name.  It's not how I mean to be.  I am working on it as well. Blush [:I]

Third, Thanks very much for supporting the idea!  We did it! Yeah!! [yeah] Thumbs Up [tup]

I think a forum would be going too far.  A PM to Bergie is all it takes.  No arguing or fighting with anyone.  He's a reasonable guy, just like you and me. Smile [:)]

I'd enjoy a separate forum.  It might make an obvious place for DCC, sound, DC, signaling, etc.  All the really geeky stuff.

(I'm not a geek, I just... ok I am a geek :-)

edit: oops, It looks like I'm a little late and out of touch...  See you there...

My computer skills are weak and I have been helped a great deal on the forum. Some times you can read an entire articlel and not get the point were one question will clear it up.

Sounds good to me.

As noted I was against the idea. But hurrah for democracy and a host that does what it's supporters want. I hope the moderators keep the topics in the right forum for now on. In the past the layout part of the site have not exactly been used to a hundred percent for those kind of questions.

But anyways, it might be a good thing with this sub forum. What is good for the majority is good for me.

O by the way don't say anything about Digitrax. My very first question was about my problems, and everything about me, my honesty, integrity.and possibly my heredity was questioned.
