Let me go to my local bank to see if I can get a small loan for that auction instead of buying like, lets see, perhaps a car?

That looks like a typical GATs train show table, only in vertical format. One thing is missing, the A Team Tyco set.

Pretty sure 3Rail was making a joke here...
That's around $140/loco! You can't even factor the cars in since they look mostly Tyco-ish. Someone thinks their time is worth a lot more than it really is...
Starting the auction at $8500.00 makes it a sale an not an auction. Would have been better to have started it at $100.00 with a reserve of more (not $8500.00 dreamer!). I'm going to follow it and see if there are any bids.

That's what I took it for too. Then I noticed he list one loco as cherry but in the details it's missing a step or something. More like damaged or broken...not cherry.

Ah, you must be a PRR fan. I saw a website that had a bunch of them, but don't remember the web address. Some were more, ahh, colorful than others, and some that would be considered unfit for this forum (what some would consider foul language). Most were unflattering, to say the least, some were downright insulting, but in some cases, they might be justified.

I'm surprised he posted your comments, Dinwitty.
Those kitbashes are conversation pieces, I guess, but they should at least be able to move back and forth under their own power on a straight test track.
It looks like he was having fun, but $8500 for that collection? I don't think so. I don't understand some of these sellers who enter an outrageous amount for the starting bid, and then wonder why the item doesn't sell. Better to start low and let the market decide.

uh - uh. No way.
Yes there are a lot of trains there. But unless there is a whole lot about Rivarossi that I don't know (which I don't collect), there is not a lot of high end locos there. Maybe worth 3 grand with good rolling stock....what do you think?....and if almost everything was as new.....
but sight unseen, old stock, Bachmann????
I've got a bridge I'd like to sell on Ebay for $8500 too.
No. He wont.
8500 sheesh...
I will tell you this:
The auction fee on that asking price will be worth more than the entire collection probably.
I always like the verbiage in some of these sales:
All dedicated railroading enthusiasts will recognize the value of theserare engines and know the starting bid is far less than the collectionscollective value.
If you have any doubts about the true value of this collection and whatit represents please ask the advice of an experienced professional.
I wonder what happened that he/she is selling all of his hard work...
Divorce, Illness, a developed fear of little people that stand very still day after day watching a train go in circles?
Ok, snap out of it...
I do wonder why...
Hoo boy... all that in 5 years?
I agree on the triplex. And the Paragon Duplex aint THAT rare. lol.
