Unless his locomotives are special brass collectors items, why would you waste your time on OLD loco's that don't have sound or are DCC ready when there is so much great stuff out there now. I'd rather take that $8500 & spend it on new stuff as opposed to that old, uhem, junk.

That's around $140/loco! You can't even factor the cars in since they look mostly Tyco-ish. Someone thinks their time is worth a lot more than it really is...

Starting the auction at $8500.00 makes it a sale an not an auction.  Would have been better to have started it at $100.00 with a reserve of more (not $8500.00 dreamer!).  I'm going to follow it and see if there are any bids.

Ah, you must be a PRR fan.  I saw a website that had a bunch of them, but don't remember the web address.  Some were more, ahh, colorful than others, and some that would be considered unfit for this forum (what some would consider foul language).  Most were unflattering, to say the least, some were downright insulting, but in some cases, they might be justified.

Someone must have told him that his collection was worth well over $8500 and he went running with it.  That auction can really make a normally smart man look like a donkey.  Brand new retail for all 60+- engines and 100 boxcars is less than $8500.  Even if yu said each lco was $80 and the boxcars are $10 each the total would be around $5800 RETAIL.  Yea he MUST be selling this collection to fuel a crack cocaine addiction and since he was probably high when listing the auction his price went high too.  Shame shame shame.  If that sells for $8500 I will feel stupid but I am pretty sure stupidity will be diverted in this case.  LOL  Someone needs to send him an email that crack kills

Those kitbashes are conversation pieces, I guess, but they should at least be able to move back and forth under their own power on a straight test track.

It looks like he was having fun, but $8500 for that collection? I don't think so. I don't understand some of these sellers who enter an outrageous amount for the starting bid, and then wonder why the item doesn't sell. Better to start low and let the market decide.

Yes there are a lot of trains there.  But unless there is a whole lot about Rivarossi that I don't know (which I don't collect), there is not a lot of high end locos there.  Maybe worth 3 grand with good rolling stock....what do you think?....and if almost everything was as new.....

Well without a closer look you never know but I say better to try than to just wonder.  I would be intersted in seeing it run.  If manufacturers can build Thomas and Harry Potter trains then why not a triplex although its not accurate to the prototype its still intersting.
