Gooood Mooorning Fellow MRR's!

Cloe, I'll wait for Ryan's lunch menu before ordering.(thanks, Jeff!Big Smile [:D]

I had some errands to do,stopped at wally's mart. OK, I can't be the first one that ever noticed this but the styrene "for sale" etc. signs are the perfect thickness for road crossings and such.I picked up two 15"x19" signs for $1.97 each.It was enough to pave around and between the tracks at the Spooner station! If I had to guess, I'd say the thickness is .020 and the smaller 10"x14" is probably .010.Those were $.97 each. The bigger ones were about  the same thickness as what ya get for roofs in DPM kits.Cut it with scissors.

JEFF: nice pics,as usual.

LEE: just noticed the wife went a little nuts or the keyboard got stuck as she sent that map about 5 times last week! Sorry! She said she sent the whole(not very long) Omaha website to you.I gave her a stern talking to.Whistling [:-^]

Weather's actually pretty good here today, partly sunny and 26f.That's supposed to change tommorrow.

Hope all's well or at least tolorable for everyone!

in a Union Pacific mug, please & thank you!

***Phil, I did a quick search and they are calling it a SD70ACe? Perhaps a conversion, I don't know. It sure looks like a SD80 to me.

Had a good rain here last night. Holding tanks are full again and everything is wet and/or muddy. Thumbs Up [tup]

Have a good day all.

Afternoon folks!

Been busy at work and playing catch em ups and such. Banged Head [banghead]

Awoke at 1:00 am this morning with a coughing attack, Dead [xx(] made some hot tea and watched the Weather Channel while the rain storms passed through, and finally went back to sleep Zzz [zzz]around 3:00 am in front the TV, now I'm tired too! Sleepy [|)] Go figure!

Thanks for all the well wishes everybody! Hope to make that happen sooner than later....wishfully thinking.... Angel [angel]

Will play catch up in the diner now...

Rob I think that rain last night might have filled up more than a couple a water tanks...just wish I had a few like yours. Cool [8D]

Mitch I still need to program my scanner to the NS and CSX freqs around here too!  I heard three traffic accidents on the way home from work yesterday, all with injury too. When are these people going to learn to drive in the rain? Sigh [sigh]

Jerry I see ya done made it to the TOP again!  Thumbs Up [tup] Congrats on that one, hope I did'nt dirty too many pots and pans for ya yesterday, but the way Chloe and Zoë was taking them orders... And now looks like Jeff is wearing the apron now... Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Duke CB huh, used to have those CB units on the tree service rigs when I worked years ago as a crew chief, and it made for easy communications between the trucks and the office. You know, like calling in to make sure that the coffee pot was not empty upon our return, important stuff like that.  Whistling [:-^]

Lee saved those railroad radio links as a favorite, thanks! That's some bad luck with the parts delivery trucks, maybe they need new brakes too! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Ed got the stove fired up again I see, no problem, just let us know beforehand when you need some burner space, always willing to accommodate a fellow chef! Chef [C=:-)] So you subbed the sardines for the anchovies??? Oh, and BTW, that lift up section on your layout is really nice, and does make for an easy wiring among other under the benchwork activities. Thumbs Up [tup]

Philnrunt, I didn't know you wanted me to post your photos here on the Diner walls, why didn't you say so! Did you go to Portland, Maine or Portland, Oregon, or is there a Portland, Indiana? Confused [%-)]

I like this one you got of the KCS:

A well deserved Restaurant plug: We ran up to Blue Ridge today (got a CV boot for the Polaris Ranger). We were starving so decided to splurge and eat out. Went to Ruby Tuesdays and ordered. A short time later the Chef came out and said, "I have some good news and some not so good news". Long story short, he burned our food but offered us free salad bar while he cooked it up proper. Then, after the meal (which didn't take long at all and was quite good) the Chef came out with a HUGE dessert plate with a large yummy flakey cake thing covered in vanilla icecream and strawberries with whipped topping (also complimentary). Wife and I were so stuffed by the time we left and the food and service was so good, just wanted to share this with you. (I'm a big fan of Longhorns, but this Chef won us over) Dinner [dinner]

***Ryan, really enjoyed the pic inside the cab. Looks a lot simpler than an airline cockpit. Looking at the cup holder and snacks, almost wish I had been a train engineer.

Have a good night all. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening Gang: Well Baby Lara is home and has taken to it well. She didn't even want to wake up for supper. Dianne and John will get the business tonight. I bet they are both pooped tomorrow.

No MRRing here. Mary Ann had a doctors appointment this afternoon. It went well just a couple of new spots that I'll have to treat. She gets these skin cancers pop up now and then. They are not the bad kind but need tobe taken care of. Useing the ointment is easer then having them cut out. She's been down that road a few times.

Tomorrow I'm going out to Clark Gardens to dig some Pampas grass that they are going to get rid of.I'll bring a bunch to Mary Ann for the yard and Terry will get some for his railroad.

I think that I'll head out now.

Good Night All

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Another beautiful day down here in Paradise.  Cool [8D]  Just a bit of drizzle in the morning but that burned off fast.  Into the mid 70's by afternoon.

We took advantage of the nice temperature to go out to the orange grove and cut another carload of fruit.  Still a lot on the trees.  The Mandarins are definitely past their prime, but still edible.  We're into Reinas now.

Phil - glad I could post one of your shots.  I've sent you an email with some posting guidelines.  Now that you have the photos on Photobucket it's easy to post them in here.

Jerry - glad to see that they repaired your chair.  How long until you get the new one?

Ryan - yup.  Used the sardines.  Not as strong a flavor, so I used more.  Like I say, with all the stuff I throw in the sauce it's kind of hard to say whether it worked.  But the sauce was pretty good.

Chicken fajita soup??  Confused [%-)]  That would be different.  White beans and rice??  Are you still on those heavy meds?  Laugh [(-D]

That's about it folks.

Hasta mañana,

Ed

Hello ...

Good to see Luct was in this morning and provide a supply of Tim Horton;s coffee. The diner could have been running low on TH coffee with all those caffeine hounds who are here in the mornings.

Those are neat pictures of your layout, Jeff.

I've been making progress on the layout and am doing scenery now.

Happy Model Railroading

Good Evening All,

Snuck home and did some more on the city block - roofs ans some store interior bits for starters. Progress pics below.

Jeff - i love what you did with the room..... the night shots get better all the time.

Ryan - cool cab pics and the KCS was a find, no?

Good to see Luc back in - hope Glo is doing ok and I wonder how many career changes Luc has been through since his last visit.

Speaking of our Canadian friends, has anyone heard from Fergie since the ski trip or is he still imbedded in a pile on the mountain?

Lots of fun changing the wireless router that went out tonight. Got it all back up except for my youngest sons which shows connectivity but won't bring up the internet.

an overview of the block with all the roofs in place

street level view of the corner pharmacy - that truck sure is slow - looks like it hasn't moved since last week.

Time to get some sleep - another long day tomorrow but at least the rain's stopped for now.

 Night All,   J.R.

Good evening, Chloe! Hmm, Beef Bourguignon

or Grilled Chicken with Rosemary

- hard decision... I think I'll go with the beef bourguignon, please. and a glass of wine. Thanks!

 jeffrey-wimberly wrote:

Jeff, that ark might come in handy - I know that our weatherguessers were saying tonight we might get some more rain/freezing/snow on Friday. Wonder if that's a combination of Johnboy's Alberta Clippers and Jeff's moisture out of the Gulf...Oops [oops] But they're not predicting much accumulation. This one is predicted to be coming out of the southwest (Oklahoma/Arkansas area), though.

Rob, I like Ruby Tuesday's also (we have one not far from my place), and I've been there several times. The local one has probably the biggest salad bar in town, so I'd bet your RT chef probably notched it up even better for you. Yeah!! [yeah] No wonder you're stuffed! Wink [;)]

Paul, it's good that Mary Ann just needs the ointment (and some TLC) and that you can be the one to help. So Lara's gonna be a night shift baby (like a lot at her age...)? Oh, the lucky parents! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Philnrunt, congrats on getting your "photo-legs" and being able to post pics now. Thumbs Up [tup]

Caffeine hounds, Garry?

WHEREwhereWhereWHEREwhereWhere? Huh, huh, HUH?? Evil [}:)]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Last night I started putting together one of my Bowser ATSF 70 ton covered hoppers. I think it will be...um... 'a learning experience', yeah, that's it! One of the end's bracket arms that support the walkway is missing (broken off), and I'm trying to figure how to make another bracket. This one's a bit more complicated in assembly, it appears, so I'll have to take my time on this one. I like it, though!

Better get going - want to get back to the covered hopper, and maybe also play with a couple of ideas for a spare room-sized layout.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good evening Diners: Welcome home baby Laura! Also, that's great news about Jerry being mobile again with a fixed axel.  Good anniversary present that, I'd say.

Ran some trains today, but am still being plagued with track glitches, especially at turnouts.  One by one I'll get these sorted out, but it's going to take time.

Ryan: Tim Hortons are doing a Chicken Fajita wrap that is surprisingly good, and doesn't make blood sugar leap skyward.Thumbs Up [tup], but they haven't discovered your soup yet.Big Smile [:D] I'd post a pic of the wrap, but they don't show it on their web site.  You were wondering why I would spend so much time on cleaning the track by hand, rather than use a track cleaning car.  The answeris in the long term result.  This GLEAM method is said by its proponents (ask Jeff) to cut out the need for cleaning, other than a wipe down with a cloth or paper every so often, for years! What I can say is that locos with clean wheels start right off, on minimum voltage anywhere on the cleaned portion of the layout. They never did that reliably before.  And last night, with a minimal moon shining in the window, the track on the door module, which was parked over by the window, reflected the moonlight in a fantastic way. I noticed it as I walked by the room!Cool [8D]

As you know, Flashwave has been helping me with the raiLink decals.  I've been able to do a rough print off of what he sent this morning.  The loco in these shots isn't going to end up with the decals, but is a handy undecorated background.  The "decals" are just plain paper print outs, propped up against the carbody.

JR:  that block of buildings is looking really good.  The roof variety is very convincing.  Convincing too are Jeff's night shots, thanks for those Jeff.Bow [bow]

I forget who was asking about preferred methods of ballasting.  When I've time, I'll post some pics of the way I've found works for me.

For now, Happy Valentine's day everyone, and I'm off to bed.  Good night all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort, and peace.Angel [angel]

Thanks,  Heartland, for getting here first! I got to w**k tonight and the place where the puter used to be is empty, guess we had a massive virus and the only one not infected is this laptop that the officer I work with uses. So if you see words spelled even weirder than normal, it's because I'm not used to this Presario. But I like the keyboard better than Ajo's Dell. HA! Me talking about puter's, thats polliticians talking about honesty!

To all of you who liked the pictures-THANKS! You don't know how good it makes me feel to know that at last I am contributing a little something.

Getting busy, lots to say, I'll try to check back in in a bit.

OK, had to do real w**k, hope that doesn't happen again.

LSWrr- We will let you know when we have it in written in stone, the trip is still in the planning stages now. Thanks for the info. I'm looking forward to seeing your area again.

Cederstrand- I read just the other day that UP placed a 1000 unit order with EMD for the SD70ACe, glad to know that was one. You are right, they sure look like an 80 or 90. I have pictures of one of the original demonstraton 90's, took it at the 75th Anniversary of EMD up in La Grange, it sure was a powerful looking monster. In that same article about UP's order, it said the 90 was no longer in the  EMD catalog. Too bad, they are impressive. Thanks for the info.

Silverspike- Excellent! I'm happy you posted those too! Anytime you or anyone else wants to slap one of those pics up here, feel free. I'm just glad ya liked 'em. And as for Portland, believe it or not, there is one in east central Indiana. The closest body of water is Lake Michigan, or Erie, about 100 miles at best guess. Why it was named that I have no idea, but EVERYONE asks Maine or Oregon when you order something by phone. Also, I have a picture of a NS test unit, looks like nothing I've ever seen before, if we get our puter back anytime soon, I'll forward a copy to you. Don't even want to try it on this one.

Ozarkbelt and JeffreyW- Glad you enjoyed the pics, I had planned to put more up tonight (mostly of ships, though)until the previously mentioned puter problem reared it's ugly head. I just took 5 rolls in the other day, hopefully they will have some trains I can post, I think some NS and ex-DRG&W units are on these.

Ed- I will try to read your picture advice as soon as we get the old puter back, I am actually looking forward to working on it for a change. And those KCS de Mexico units should be closer to you than to me, by now. It sure is amazing to compare the engine crews working area now to even a few years ago. Pretty nice place to spend 20 years, huh?

Sounds like I missed another brouhaha earlier, I never get to see any of these wars of words, they are always over and locked by the time I get around to logging on. Oh well, seems like there are always more folk out there ready to go at it. Thats why I like the Diner, nice and quiet.

Almost forgot to welcome Little Lara on board, real glad to hear she's out of hospital. Say hello to her for us, eh Paul? And when I get the pics of the USCG units posted, I'll let you know. Ah yes, Trains, Planes and Automobiles- not bad things to enjoy, huh? Oh, and Ships too.

OK, talk to you all tomorrow night.

Good morning all,

Terry, No problem, but I bet it's the reason I didn't get them.

Not much going on here, I start duty this morning I hope things stay quiet this week.  Picked up 4 milk delivery trucks from LHS only $3.25 this month.  I also bought a new digital camera. Nikon L5 7.2 megapixels, 5x optical zoom, 2gb SD chip, 30 frames/second, and has vibration reduction.  I should be able to sneak up on those locomotives better with this thing.

Good Morning All,

Bitter cold with the wind this morning. The ice storm was greatly over rated though with all the rain we had a lot of flooding in lower areas around the state.

That buffet looks great Bill and some fresh TH coffee will do me a treat. I'll be over in the corner going over my load lists for next weeks trip.

Thanks for the kind words on the layout. I was in the ig room reading Concrete Lackeys thread on logos and will try some of the advice Flashwave and others gave as the buildings could really use signage. Being computer challanged I haven't really tried to get to grips with paint or other programs though the CFO and #1 son are very good at the graphics we use on the race cars. Guess it's time to learn.

Good to hear that baby Laras' home. Keep us posted on progress please.

Der - I found oddly enough that on the museum N layout the track problems increased when I cleaned the rails. The trains went well, but the elimination of crud on the sides of the rails and wheels seemed to allow the trucks to find and climb every imperfection in the track. After a week of use it was back to normal though I haven't tried the gleem method yet.

Time to pick up tools and get back to it. I'll drop in towards noon to see what's up for lunch. C.U.L.  J.R.

Check this out.  My wife wants one of those chair lift things that go up the stairs, and she qualifies for social security to pay for it.  Thats all well and good, because she does have trouble with stairs even when she isn't in her wheelchair or on crutches.  But get this......Uncle Sam will pay for the lift (and they aren't cheap!), but only if we have a maid service that we pick and Uncle Sam pays for to come in two times a week to clean the house.  Now mind you, we run a pretty tight ship.  The house is clean.  My kids and I work hard at that, and the wife does what she can as well.  I appreciate the offer and all, but we don't need the maid.  We told the folks at SS that and they told us that if we wanted the lift they had to pay for a maid service.  So if you ever wondered where your hard earned tax dollars are going to, just know that two days a week those dollars are going towards paying a maid to sit on her butt and do virtually nothing for several hours.

Oh well, off to work!

Morning folks!

He had a surprise light dusting of snow last night, clear skies and cool temps today.

Happy Valentines Day! Kisses [:X]

Are you doing anything special with your spouse or significant other today? We are going out to dinner after work tonight.

I don't know about you guys but the General Discussion section here seems to be on a deep slide to the gutter lately, I might have to start spending more time else ware. I still like coming to the TS Diner though, you guys are special!

Nice to see Luct drop in for the quick post yesterday!

Jeff I have to say that is one thing I don't miss about Louisiana, and that is the amount of rainfall that it receives. However, I must say that we are in desperate need of some of that moisture up here in NC.

Rob sounds like you and the wife made out nicely at Ruby Tuesday's, and that is a sign of great service when the restaurant staff can recover the ball after a fumble and still make a touchdown. I liked that cockpit photo you, you noticed the engineers diet selections too eh! I like that cup holder!

Paul that is great news on baby Lara and sounds like she is making great progress.

Ed yes, I am still taking the cough syrup at night to aid in being able to sleep and not cough all night and on another round of antibiotics too! Hey, if you want my Chicken Fajita Soup recipe just say so! Basically its grilled chicken, onions, and bell peppers mixed into a cream soup base and seasoned with a little chili powder and cumin, fresh chopped cilantro for garnish. And then topped with some fresh fried flour tortilla strips and a large dollop of sour cream and then some fresh diced tomatoes on top. Ole!

J.R. Yes, that KCS pic was a find; it was from PhilnRunt's Photo Bucket gallery. I was posting some of his photos in the Diner for him. And that downtown city block scene is shaping up nicely too!

Jim thanks for taking the pics of yesterdays specials, and a glass of red wine does go well with the beef bourguignon! Those covered hoppers are nice pieces of rolling stock, and makes for a nice unit consist too!

Der John sounds like you have perfected the Gleam process, a shiny rail is a sight to behold, especially with moon light to boot!

Anytime Philnrunt, you just send em on over and I'll post em up for ya! And ditto what you said about the MR forum, the TS Diner is a shining star and respite from the worries and tribulations in the General Discussion sections.

Lee looking forward to seeing those new milk trucks soon with your new camera.

I see Bill has graciously set up the breakfast buffet this morning, so I'll have the buffet Chloe!

PC now that is an interesting thing to know about the SS. Now what if you really need the maid service, are they going to throw in the chair? Laugh [(-D]

In years past some states that were having severe draught problems had snow shipped in by truck and railcar from the northern states, who were more than happy to be rid of it.

Cool night shots Jeff. Thanks for the cookies Sue.

And now for todays' story based on my recollection of a true event. Since we mentioned Ruby Tuesdays' we know the man who started the franchise who is a vintage racer. The chain is based in Georgia, and he was at Road Atlanta, won his race and decided to take his crew to dinner, naturally at Ruby Tuesdays. He didn't want a fuss made so he didn't announce who he was though apparantly his picture was in the lobby area. When they arrived the place was not busy, but they waited just about forever for their order to be taken and then for the food to arrive which it eventually did - cold. The owner didn't make a fuss, but the next day he did go back fired the manager and installed a new one with orders to make sure all customers were treated according to company policy (promptly curteously, etc.) and to change staff until they were. In other words instead of firing everyone in sight, he went to the root of the problem (management) and let a proper manager sort out the rest.

On that note, I think lunch is in order (no pressure right Ryan?).   J.R.

Good Morning, Diners! Zoe, a cup of coffee in a ATSF mug, please,

and I'll have a bowl of that brocolli cheddar soup, too - love that - and a chicken club wrap (yum!). Dinner [dinner] Thanks!

Goodness - Luc, you were in awfully early this morning. You having problems sleeping, or were you just up super late? Take care of yourself there (and Gloria), okay?

Philnrunt, trust me - you haven't missed much if you've missed a flame war. Seen one, you've seen 'em all...

Lee, were those Scenemaster, or Walthers milk trucks? If they were either of those (or the Woodland Scenics ones), that was a good price. The families in the LSWRR area will be ready for their breakfast now. Wink [;)]

Garry, got your PM, and answered you. That day won't work for me, but we may be able to meet at another time (around one of my paydays, likely). Thumbs Up [tup]

Paul, how'd Lara sleep the night - up very many times? Ah, the joys of parenthood... and the joys of getting past that period when they are grown...Wink [;)]

DerJohn, nice 'decals' there, and they'll look even better when you get the real deal on that FM. Yeah!! [yeah]

JR, if all else fails, Walthers makes that set of signs to go with their modular buildings (but can be applied to other businesses as well...). And JV Innovative and others have general signs for various businesses, too.

Ryan, my RR's not big enough (or modern enough) for unit trains, so five or six covered hoppers at a time will be the longest in one of my trains.Smile [:)]

Sue, you sweetie, bringing up cookies! Hope you're giving Larry some munchies too, or he'll get jealous (virtually...)Wink [;)] Thanks!

No big V-day plans for me. I sent one (somewhat funny) card to one gal at church, and (not very romantic but friendly) e-cards to a couple of lady friends.

Well, it's warming up here in Cape Girardeau - about 30 F now, and supposed to be warming up to 40 or so this afternoon. Yay! They're saying that most homes in town should have power back by this evening.

Best get me back to the paper stack here. I'll be back later in the day. Everyone take care!

Blessings and a great Valentine's Day,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Well the milk trucks are the life-like brand, just to be parked along the creamery.  For the city area I'm looking at the WS Ice Cream truck and the WS milk truck.  Haven't figured out the houses yet, $20/house is a little steep for the budget so I'm thinking about paper models as a 3d back drop for the downtown area.  GF messed up my old digital camera and it was going to cost $59 to fix the 8 year old camera or $119 to replace it with the L5.  Gotta love tax returns!

I added a section in my albums for vessel pictures, as you can see my powers at posting pictures in the forum are horrible so I think I'll stick to the webshots.

Maybe I'll go trespassing this weekend with the new camera and see if TSA catches me.
