My TO DO List is.........."going to be the death of me".

And along the way, as long as I can enjoy the farm, my wife, and my trains, (not necessarily in that order), it is OK with me. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Weather all Kato Track differently according to type. ie: yard, mainline etc.

Paint benchwork top.

Get legs for the top.

Build town base along one wall.

Decide final building arrangement, trackwork and related.

Uh, let's see...

  • Get wiring going (connect spade terminals to wire, connect spades to terminal blocks, connect feeders to my mains, finish hooking DC power pack to the previous...)
  • Scenery (some small rock outcroppings and also slopes to ease the elevation changes, ground cover, plant the trees that are in their stands for now, add field grass/weeds, etc.)
  • Get background warehouse/industry kitbashed from DPM modules (per my sketches for that), assemble other kitbashed industries for the industrial tracks on the back of the sections, add various junk, trash and clutter around industries and the engine servicing area...
  • Make decals with my (fictional) RR's logo and numbers, repaint several locos & apply decals, add details to some of the (non-P2K) locos,...
  • Make masonite backdrop and paint sky & clouds, then add Walthers backdrop (scenery part, not the sky) to the backdrop, and add the backdrop to the back of the sections I have so far.
  • Finish assembling a number of freight car kits, kitbash Athearn RDC's so they're closer to the prototype, add loads to freight cars...
  • Run trains again...

Plus probably a few dozen other things that I missed, of course.

I'm a bachelor father for the week while my wife visits her parents.  My daughter is a very independent teenager, so I'll have lots of time.  I've got the shell off a P2K GP-9, and I'll be off to my LHS in an hour to get a sound decoder for it.

There are a bunch of Jordan vehicles waiting to be assembled, and after I do a bit of weathering, I've got to Dul-Coat some stuff before the rain hits this weekend.

What does your to do list look like?

Yellow legal pad with English handwritten notes in blue ink.

Today, the list includes

Change diapers, feed boys, feed self, let boys play.  Nap time, change diapers, feed boys, feed self, play.

Maybe there's a druggist next door to your LHS.  Add aspirin to your list.

Nah, some Demerol and Versed will cure it for about an hour.

My list was only long enough for aspirin.  Anything stronger and I'm unable to keep up with the twins.

I use Aleve. But care must be taken to drink at least 20 ounces of water and no more than 2 at one time each 24 hour block. That stuff gives me functionality on days that otherwise would be wasted in bed.

I have about 5 hours of household chores to do before I can reward myself with any model railroading activities. I make it sound like I always put these things first but actually have put them off as long as possible.

When I finally get in the garage(layout room) I will install a siding for a citrus packer. I need to do some patching and rework on some scenery to make a section removeable for access to a couple of turnouts. I will remove those cars that are not in my plan and move the trucks(couplers + metal wheels) to some newer purchases that need upgrading. Then I may be able to run some trains.

On Sunday I am due at a friends for a work session on his layout. Its just track and benchwork. We are currently working on bridge abutments and tunnel portals.

Moved and rearranged the workbench, shelving into thier possible pernament positions.

Cleared the room middle and working on one corner to clear the tools out of there.

Goal, one open cleared room for painting, new carpeting to match house.

Start painting benchwork flats with cheap tan latex.

Continue with workbench structure building for town.

Make plans to acquire lumber and additional tracks, switches and associated devices ... yay.

Forge ahead with decisions on which structures to keep, what to sell. For example my Mine requires about 2x8 to switch effectively and if I cannot find it, I will sell it and stick a few coal barges there on docks and cranes instead. (Anyone have good Clamshell buckets in HO?)

Make decisions on final wye configuration and location of staging.

Negotiate use of Fire Chimmney Flue channels though one wall for staging access.

Interestingly enough, I just wrote a to-do list a couple of weeks ago.  Lots of little things on it that I can do "at my leisure", but the big ones are:

1. complete an industrial spur and the building it runs to

2. check the weight and coupler height of every piece of rolling stock

3. Lube / check coupler heights of every loco

Items 2 and 3 are huge, and there are few things I hate more in this hobby than fiddling around with couplers...and as time goes by (and my eyes get worse) that hatred only deepens.

Cheers.

Mines fairly embarassing.

1)   Finish the woodland scenics Subterrean Scenery kit that is a little set to do some scenery with.   I got it all plastered out, track down & ballasted, and then just...stopped.  Not quite sure why, but has been maybe 7 to 10 months now since I touched it other than to move it.

2)   Finish the free form track laying I was doing on a small posterboard for a dual loop configuration just to get the hang of roadbed and ballasting and a few other things.

I kinda stopped working on it in march, and never picked it up again.   I bought wood for benchwork, cleaned a room out (which is now stacked with boxes and stuff) and never finished what I started.

I'm weird like that.

Let's see...

I've taken a 4 month sabbatical from layout building, but now that I'm back to school, I'm thinking I need to finish benchwork, go to Lowes and pick up some foam board to add to the benchwork, but more 2x4s, buy a DCC system, convert 5 non dcc ready locos to DCC, start laying track, add scenery, build 2 walthers kits (lumber yard and NL & P substation), buy some center beam flat cars, but a new gp38-2, wire the layout, weather about 2 dozen pieces of rolling stock, build a set of spine cars, etc.  I decided to take my time Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I fell behind badly on my to do list due to thanksgiving. For instance the cover for the front of the layout, That will have to wait until the benchwork is finished. The benchwork will have to wait for more wood. The wood etc....

Holidays are a great time to work on the trains but at the same time not so great.

My to do list looks like this:

Last weekend :

Friday: Dismantled two twin beds, picked up ceiling & trim paint, took all pictures / items off walls, spackled holes, took down window treatments, removed all furniture from bedroom.

Saturday:  Painted bedroom ceiling, loaded twin beds and all bedding into truck, delivered to my son's house, picked up paint for the walls for two bedrooms, painted the walls in one bedroom.

Sunday:  Painted doors to closet and main door and all the trim.  Re-hung blinds and dresser mirror.

Weekend after Thanksgiving:

Friday:  Move queen bed from master bedroom into 4th bedroom. Prep Master bedroom for paint, get ceiling painted, cut lawn and bag leaves.

Saturday:  Paint master bedroom walls.  get Christmas display, tree and orinaments out of attick.  Set up Christmas display and lighting.

Sunday:  Paint trim and doors in master bedroom, re-hang pictures, blinds, curtains, etc.  set up Christmas tree.

Weekend of Nov 30-Dec 2:

Friday:  New king bed arrives today,  Set up bed with new bedding.  Prep. morning room for paint, paint ceiling.

Saturday:  Paint walls in morning room.  Once walls are dry start trim paint.

Sunday:  Finish trim paint if needed.

OH!  You were talking about the model railroad to do listBlush [:I]

I'm still working on the sub roadbed.  Guess that'll have to wait until I get all the higher priority "to do's / honey do's" finished.  Probably around Christmas.
