I've been back in this hobby for about 10 years now, and have an HO roster of over 150 engines! Most of these engines will never turn a driver on my new layout, so I'm in the process of "rationalizing" my fleet as well. My goal is to get down to about 75 engines, 40 of which will be regular runners. What's my fleet look like? Anonymous Member sinceApril 2003 305,205 posts Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 9:43 PM Mine is rather unusual, I suppose: The backbone locomotives for my HO scale switching layout are two SW1s lettered for Walla Walla Traction Co. These were painted and lettered by Blair Kooistra and were his main motive power for a while. We swapped some motive power earlier this year -- a LL sound-equipped Geep 9 for the SW1s. Here's what they look like on Blair's previous layout. Here's another atmospheric shot Blair took. This one makes me want to go work on the layout every time I see it. Nice, eh? And they run like watches. I've owned and operated many a locomotive, but these two are among my favorites. You can click on the photos for a larger version. Also on board are: 1 UP SW9 1 NP SW7 1 SP&S RS1 1 SP&S RS3 I have other locomotives in HO scale that are not in use on this layout, mainly SP&S, as well as some British Railways OO scale locomotives. With that many I'm not about to list all of them. I have a little bit of everything, with a wide range of steam and diesel locomotives. I also have 78 O and S gauge prewar and postwar tinlate locomotives as well. I buy most of my trains used, so that accounts for why I have as many as I do. I am certain it has doubled since then with all the fine offerings lately. My latest additions are two sets (A-B-B-A, A-B-B-A) of the Athearn Genesis Fs for the Walthers Super Chief and last weekend at GATS I bought a Proto 0-8-0 in Missouri Pacific colors. Couldn't pass on the price of $80. I've got the Genesis 4-6-6-4 D&RGW on order. Pitty I don't have a layout to run them on. If you are like me , its really tough. I've limited my road names which helps a little. I'm down to seven or so. I've ditched all the high priced brass steam that doesn't run well anyway. I've ditched ALL the brass diesels except for an E5. I'm eliminating duplicates. Actually, I don't have much trouble thining, it is just hard to thin them faster than they accumulate. I now close my eyes when I see things like the Lionel and Trix Big Boys, the Rivarossi Allegeny. Plus the newest rule. If I have no place to store the thing when I get home I can't buy it. I'm not currently near it so i don't know for sure. Conrail paint scheme.... it cost like 100 bucks... i have yet to run it, but i have the detailed parts on it finally except the hand rails... i am not coordinated enough to put them on... everything else was easy enough... i lost too many of the handrails trying to put them on and dropping them and not finding them... oh well... i'm hoping that for christmas i'll get maybe another engine for my roster. my buddy and i are working on setting up a layout in his basement, and we don't really have all that much stuff now... gotta wait till after christmas to buy the track for our big layout though. so for now we're just using some EZ track from bachmann until then. anyone have any Conrail engines that they are looking to part with for a decent price? Only five, not fifteen, not fifty-five. Five. I don't comprehend how you guys can possibly need the numbers of engines that you do. Some of you own more motive power that some Class 1 railroads. With a total mileage in the units, you have no need for that many engines. As you can well imagin NYC had quite a few different diesel-electrics before their demise. I roster about 75 diesel electrics either painted in NYC, P&LE or D&MR. I also have 3 Niagras, 3 hudsons, 2 Mikados 2 0-6-0s, 2 0-8-0 and probably some I forgot. The ones I use on the layout is about 30 and most have sound. Plus one rubber squeeze toy 0-6-0 my wife got me to put in the shower for some reason. She must think I like trains. It squirts water and is one of the Thomas the Tank engines---but I am not sure which one. Since then I seem have acquired about 50% more diesels than I used have steamers.......... Ah well, so it goes, I've just moved and have got less space now but have it in one chunk rather than spread out over three basement rooms, so I may prune this list, but this is it as it is now. edkowalI don't comprehend how you guys can possibly need the numbers of engines that you do. Some of you own more motive power that some Class 1 railroads. With a total mileage in the units, you have no need for that many engines. Most of them must be gathering dust.

Why did you resurrect a 3 year old DEAD thread? It would have been better to start over. Modellers engine rosters change month to month.
Crandell can you lock this thread? I'll start over with a new one if need be.

I agree. It's probably a good idea to start a new thread - especiallly since this one was originally started nearly 6-1/2 years ago.
