Since there is zero activity in the forums other than the diner, either nobody here actually cares about model railroading (most likely) or are being distracted by the diner (least likely). If the diner disappeared today would people start participating in other threads? I highly doubt it.

Then why come to the diner and complain? There are plenty of other model railroad forums for you to enjoy. Why insult the few who enjoy the diner?

Daivid, two quick comments. First, your quote regarding 6/6/44 I had never read/heard before. Sums it up quite succinctly. Second, I too would miss you if you left , not just the Diner but across the forum. The problem in todays world is just one person can diminish the culture of a group, club, business or neighborhood. When I encounter people like this, I just ignor them. Eventually they just go away and we are all better off. Hang in, you have many friends here, don't let just one person run you off, otherwise they win.

Good morning from Beautiful British Columbia where there are 102 wildfires currently. Well, we are suppose to have nothing but Sun and warm temps for the foreseeable future so here we go on the firefront. About two months behind schedule with all the rain. Lots of younger family members in the fire service, so it is always a concern.
David, glad to see you stick your head back in the door. Just ignore Mr Miserable.
D-Day was horrific and I heard the stories when I was a kid. Hero's one and all.
Mike, hopefully, your dog can recover without surgery, fingers crossed.
The wife popped my D-10 in the mail at the cheapo surface rate to Rapido and it was supposed to take 9 days to get there. It usually takes a day just to get a parcel into Vancouver before it heads out. 57 hours later it is in Toronto, which happens about 90% of the time. Canada Post has DC-10s and they don't send them empty, they top them up with the cheap stuff like my returns to Rapido. Maybe it will take 6 days for it to get to Markam from Toronto, so I will not get too excited just yet.
We have not heard from Dave, hope it is just the forum glitch that is keeping him silent.
Bear, I went for a few rides in those old Bell47s, loved every moment of it. TF talking about his pilot friend who flew in Vietnam reminded me of the flight I took in Australia with an X-fighter pilot in his Cessna, now that was fun.
Even CP and CN mainlines cannot escape the wrath of Mother Nature.

I am not really bothered with Keyboard Warriors. I try to ignore them. For a little while 'a few' over the past year or so have not liked some of my posts.

Unfortunately, the Diner seems to be the only thread still getting any attention here. Scroll down to the bottom of the General Discussion page and notice the final thread on Page 1 was updated 3 weeks ago. Likewise, the whole "Forums" page looks like a ghost town.
A lot of this must be frustration with poor forum performance. I tried from morning until night yesterday, and got nothing but the Gateway error and a few non-descript timeout errors. If I weren't retired, I wouldn't have time for such nonsense.
I enjoy pretty much everyone here. I have no quarrels, and I realize that everyone has a bad day sometimes. I'm 77 years old, but my Old Man Pills keep me alive and out of the hospital, so I don’t think I'll be on the RIP Track anytime soon.
So, I am thinking of stepping back from these MR forums for a while myself. I'm sad that participation has fallen off so drastically, and I doubt that the forums will get any better for some time, if ever.

Back in its heyday, the forum would be hopping and on any given day Jeffrey Wimberly would make sure the diner would not drop off the front page by giving it a bump if need be.
I used to post my goofy low-quality videos as did others and they would get a hundred views in short order, now if I post one they often get zero looks or one or two views at best. I post them on FB and they get a lot of views and spark some good conversation to boot.
If you build it they will come, if you neglect it they will leave.
I often need to come and sit at my desk off and on, some days more than others. I leave the forum up and if it is working I read and/or contribute, if not no biggie.
Lots of water under the bridge over the last 18 years for me. A hand full of people being banned for their disgusting racist comments and one for posting porn. For the most part, this has been my best online experience and I'll check in until someone either pulls my plug or the forum plug.

A cool, windy day here. Didn't get anything done outside. My wife has many hundreds of dollars worth of flowers to plant. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Mike, sorry to hear about your dog. A number of years ago one of our westies ran outside to chase a squirrel and his crutiate ligament went. He limped back and was in a lot of pain. We rushed him to our vet who had a lot of experience doing the surgery. It took a couple of weeks for it to heal fully and we had to keep him quiet so the blinds went down so he couldn't see the squirrels.

I was in a helicopter once. We went on one to view Victoria Falls. It was fairly large as there were 6 passengers. It was powered by a jet engine. Think it was a Bell. Great experience.
I have a passenger train on the layout right now with the 5 axle C Liner. It is a very heavy loco.
No plans other than helping planting in my role of fetch and carry.

These youTube/TicToc stunts really seem to be getting out of hand. Last year a clown crashed his plane while recording his bailout and now I see some other click-seeker decided it was a good idea to shoot fireworks out of a helicopter aimed at a sports car of some sort. No, there couldn't be any downside to this plan, right? During wild fire season? Loading incindiaries into the passenger compartment of the helicopter? What could go wrong???
Reminds me of some of the brainless stunts these reveal parties have come up with. And what about those 'police' markings on the 'copter? Any laws broken there?

My Daughters got me the box set for my birthday years ago. The set does not get dusty. Some good Benny Hill once in awhile isn't too shabby either.
Hope the vet gets your dog taken care of Mike. Our pets are Family. My Nellie, a pure bread Springer Spaniel, was quite the bird dog. She leaped off the 3 level deck built around the house before the railing was built and caught a bird in mid air. She tore a tenden and had a wrap on her foot for a couple weeks, but didn't need surgery.
Maybe already mentioned, but what's your dogs name?

I've tried planning a trip for her back to see the sites, but she keeps backing out. I may make the trip myself. I've wanted to see Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

I have another day with nothing scheduled. I am making progress on my new building for the layout. I got some Plastruct N scale brick styrene. It should work great for the building. I found some rust colored paint that is the exact color I wanted for the brick walls.

My D-10 was delivered to Rapido@1130hrs today. 95 hours, not bad for the cheap rate. Now let's see how long Rapido takes to fix it. They will send a tracking # when they have repaired it.
My wife bought one of those robot vacuums at the auction a couple of weeks back, it retailed for $2000.00 and she got it for $300.00 new in box. We have a large kitchen/family room and that is where our seven Golden Retrievers stay. It can get a little hairy and the wife vacuums twice a day. This thing is amazing, it does a better job than the wife. The dogs just lay there while it goes in and out between their legs. I'll try and get some video. It does such a good job that the wife is keeping an eye out for more at the auction house so she can get one for upstairs and one for my train room with its three attached rooms.
The house will be full of Veterinarians today for their gabfest so I will be outside. The wife puts on a good lunch so I'll come in for that.
David, hope you can have your health issues resolved without slowing you down too much. We are all pulling for you.

Agreed. My daughters each have dogs and they have these vacuums. They do a great job, but you're right -- you need one for each level or set of rooms. The daughters' houses all have different levels, so they also had to get several. I was surprised at the good job they do.

I'm finally making progress on the new building for the layout. Today I'm going to start on the most difficult (I think) part of the build -- a diner front with some curved glass. It's a diner on the front of a larger building. If it works out, I'll try to take some photos.
My wife is not happy -- it rained last night, and the dog dug some places in the back yard. It's not the digging -- it's the mud the dog brought into the house.
It has been hit or miss for me getting into the diner. I am hoping the new owners will be able to fix things. I also check the 'other' forum with a diner, but for me, it's just not the same. I prefer this familiar diner with waitresses I know.

Good afternoon from the edge of the warm sunny Pacific. There are currently 98 fires burning in the Province.
Just got back from a 6km walk with the dogs and wife. Wildlife has posted signs for two bears and one cougar in the area, we didn't see either.
We had to put our 14-1/2-year-old Golden down yesterday, my poor daughter is devastated as she was her favourite and they were best buds. She held her in her arms as she went to sleep. She had a mass in her abdomen that the wife had been doing an ultrasound on every few days (we have a machine at home) I was out on the Deere and my wife came out and said it was her time as she was having a bleed from the mass and was in and out of consciousness. Up until then, she had been full of energy and you would not have known she had serious issues. I loaded her into the car and she lay with her head on my daughter's lap for the half-hour trip to the hospital.
I had this painting of her done for my wife one Christmas.
I need to go finish cutting the grass I guess.

In regard to the lack of posting recently, speaking just for myself, a lot of it is because we're in the throes of summer. I don't do much modeling as now my attention is golf, yard work, buzzing around in the Corvette and some casual cycling. I just have other interests this time of year. And of course, there is the Error 504 issue. So I'm still around, just somewhat less.
Brent, I am so sorry to hear about your Golden Retriever. We lost our 17 year old cat a few months back. It is always tough to lose a loved family member.
