BigDaddyBrent Thanks for the link to Dr. Ken. I haven't kept up with the diet crazes because there always is a new one every couple years. I watched 6 of his Keto diet vids, he has over 70 just on Keto. Exercise doesn't seem to help anymore nor does cutting down my portions.
Henry, Dr Ken has a lot to say and that has lead me to much more reading on certain subjects. The best thing he got me on to was how sugar/carbs cause inflammation. I shifted my diet and no longer take any pain meds. I was living on the stuff for far too long.
I have not had weight issues even when I was really sick, I was careful to watch the intake. My weight goes up and down a bit, however it usually depends on how much muscle I am carrying.
There are two ways to get the pounds falling off again if you stall, one is to stop exercising and keep eating the same amount for a week or so and your body gets tricked into thinking it no longer needs to store fat, then you pick up the exercise and away the pounds go. The other is to really up the exercise and just keep eating the same amount. Stalling on weight loss is just part of the game.
The only constant for me is my recumbent bike. I don't have a weight regime but if I am walking by them I stop and do some reps. When I am watching hockey I'll do sit-ups or pushups in a commercial break on my way to the bar for another glass of I just do a few reps, I don't go until I can't lift another pound, that is too much like work. That keeps me toned which is all the misses requires.
I spent a long time today trying to get the Hudson running properly to no avail. It is so close to working right yet I just can't figure it out. I am not ready to wave the white flag yet.
Wife just left to take the daughter to the ferry back to Victoria, it is amazing how much she has matured in just 5 months. She may be going down to Cuba to do some research with the University later this term.
With the wife being a Vet she has a lot to say about the food management systems of different countries and has given me some interesting articles to read over the years. There are more Veterinarians inspecting our food supplies than you might imagine.
Cows in different countries seem to produce vastly different amounts of milk depending on the country they are in, no need to mention how that is achieved.
Think I'll go find a bottle of Red and grab the axe for a couple of hours.

Steven If PSL means Posted Speed Limt and if you where doing 15% over in a 55 mph that is 8.25 mph over the speed limt. I would have wrote you a ticket. Ruel of thumb is most cop's will give you 2 too 4 mph over the speed limt after that you are fair game! Flow of traffic is not a excuse!
When I was in Law Enforcment I was doing 47 in a 45 in my patrol car. Had a guy hanging with me? Speed up to 48 and he hung with me? Hum, guy is not real bright! I went up to 50 mph and yep, hung with me? Hit the light bar and pulled him over! Said sir you where doing 5 MPH over the speed limt. He said So where you officer! Told Sir you are confused, I have the ticket book and I was pacing you!

Ken, I was not using percents, I know I was in the wrong but the second time was clearly a case of "look there goes a group of cars they're all doing 65 in a 55, well no sense in pulling them over, there's a minivan, sedan, and SUV, oh wait there's a mustang!? I'm pulling his *** over!!!" the officer was quite kind though, what helps is that I pulled over as soon as I saw his lights, same with the first officer, in that case, he was running radar while on the side of the road, I pulled over right in front of his patrol car.
The weird thing is the second officer didn't decide to pull anyone over till he was probably a half-mile plus down the road.
Also though thank you for your service Ken, I did not know you were also a veteran of law enforcement.

So it only took you a month to get a ticket? I'm not sure what to say. I have a heavy foot but I have only had three tickets in 49 years of driving. I push the limits of what the police will tolerate, but I don't exceed them. IMHO, 28 over in a 55 goes far beyond pushing the limits. Oh well, it's your money. How are you going to explain it to your new female friend, or better still, how are you going to explain it to her parents?

As I said Dave, I believe I was going slower and that my speed was "adjusted" for the sake of revenue, this is a really small town that is notorious for this sort of shenanigans, I think my actual speed was more like around 15 over, as for my female friend, she doesn't care, her dad is OK as long as it's under triple digits... not that I have gone fast enough for him to establish that, just a rule he made.
I have slowed down and am planning to invest in a radar detector/countermeasures to reduce the chances of me getting pulled over because I am doing 4 over and because it's a Mustang that's worth writing a ticket. I definitely think the LEOs are expecting a certain response when they go to pull me over, instead, they get a person who pulls over immediately with their hazards on, shuts their car off, places their wallet and keys on the dash, waits window down, hands on the wheel, and greets the officer in a kind and respectful manner.

I got a nice package in the mail today. It is my first Rapido locomotive. It is Canadian Pacific FP9A #1405 in maroon and grey with script lettering. This is a newer version with ESU sound. I found it on eBay for about $100 less than the usual asking price and with reasonable shipping. I haven't tried to run it just yet because it was frozen from sitting in the mail box since Friday.
The seller claims that it has only been tested once. There is no sign of wear on the wheels so I have no reason to disbelieve him. Unfortunately it isn't 100%. One of the front grab irons is loose and chipped. Also, one of the wind deflectors has been knocked off but it was still in the box thank goodness. Both are easy fixes.
For the near future I will only be able to run it on my test track, but it was too good to pass up.

it was cold here today. 3 degrees F to start the morning. Not uncommon in Chicago, but I still don't like it.
Beers: When I could drink beer, I used to like medium to full bodied amber ales, malty not hoppy. However, I also loved Olympia Beer. About 15 years ago, I discovered that beer knocks me out. Literally can't stay awake if I drink any beer. So, wine is my drink of choice now, particularly Pinot Noir.
as for the game in 2 weeks, maybe I will watch with my son and family, maybe not. We'll see.

Things are a bit different here in Ontario. Most two lane roads outside of towns are posted at 80 kph (50 mph) but the traffic is usually doing 100 (62.5 mph). As long as you keep it at or under 100 kph the police won't bother you. On the major highways the typical speed of traffic is about 120 kph in a posted 100 zone, but you can get away with 125 (78 mph) in the fast lane. Things get really exciting if you exceed the speed limit by more than 50 kph regardless of the speed limit. The fine is an automatic $10,000 and you won't see your vehicle for 90 days, which really doesn't matter because you will likely have had your drivers license suspended for six months. By the way, your annual insurance rate will likely be pretty close to the amount of the fine, and it will stay there for five years!
What we are not allowed to do is use radar detectors. Many visitors from your side of the border have had their radar detectors confiscated regardless of what speed they were driving. The police cars are equipped with 'radar detector detectors'.

We had a great Chinese restaurant in town, but it was sold a couple of years ago. The prices immediately went up and the quality and the portion sizes went down. We gave the new owners a couple of tries but we haven't been back since. None of the other Chinese restaurants in town are any good either so we haven't been able to order in Chinese for a while.
The best Chinese restaurant in the area was in Newmarket. Great food, great selection, great prices. They ran into some issues with the Health Dept. and decided to close.
That sucks Dave.
I love my Chinese and the Golden Wok in Bloomington is phenomenal.
What's more incredible is the Mei Inn in South Minneapolis. It is even better but it's too far away and they don't deliver to me but I do stop by there when I'm out that way

Our speed limit on the Interstate is 75 mph, and 65 or 70 on side highways. I don't really find much reason to go much faster. The roads are busy enough that if you go faster, you're going to be constantly speeding up and slowing down, and you will only gain a minute or two for all your work.
As far as tickets, if the limit is 75, you are going 80, and you are stopped, there's not much argument. You may not like it, but you were breaking the law.
I like the idea of your $10,000 fine and loss of license. Someone going 50 kph over the limit is endangering others, and should be taken off the road.
I think I have had four speeding tickets in 47 years. Two I knew I was pushing it and two were because I was not paying attention. I deserved all four and have no qualms about getting them.
Out here in the wild west of Canada, we have the RCMP patrolling and they are not influenced by what the local Mayor says or wants and they are generally pretty good guys.
I do have a lot of education in the driving end of things, mostly paid for by the taxpayers of Canada. The money was well spent as my training let me avoid more than one very serious mishap, not of my making.
Three days ago during all this snow and ice we had, I suggested to the wife and her friend on our way home we have a little fun in the car in a massive industrial area late at night. We had some real fun and the wife's friend said aren't you scared not having control of your car and before I could say anything the wife said, he is in full control it just doesn't seem like it.
Steven, if you decide to try and set some land speed records I will say this. You will likely be driving beyond your ability and if you speed make sure you do not put any other humans at risk, that is unacceptable. If you are on a divided highway having no traffic means no one is coming in the opposite direction as well. At speed, a divided highway does not offer protection from an out of control car at high speed. The out of control car will cross that divide and kill someone in a split second.
I had a lot of training by the time I bought this car, topped out at 265kmh on more than one occasion including California where the officer was more interested that the car went so fast than he was in giving us the ticket. He was a good guy.
Take a performance driving course, not only will you enjoy it immensely, it may save your life.

I feel your enthusiasm, the Vancouver Canucks have been in the NHL 50 years this year and have never won the Stanley Cup, I just hope they do it before I croak. I have done just about everything else on the bucket list and that is all that's left.
15 Over the limit is way to much over, you can get away with 5 but anything over that is pushing you luck.
We pulled a lady over one time for doing 56 in a 45. She was running late for work, her insurance expired the day before. She did not give any stupid excuses or act stupid. She came back 'clean' on ncic ect so we told her to get her insurance taken care of and we let her go. She was having a bad day already being late for work , we saw no reason to make her day worse.
I only did deupty stuff for a few months, it was unpaid but well worth the time.

When I worked the road I would warn out to 9 over posted, write for 10 and above.
The day I summonsed a superior court judge for 25 over posted, come trial date there were several individuals in the LEO system who were noticably missing.
The Judge paid his fine, after, in chambers, he said that he respected my decision.
My Grandfather spent some time as a Texas Ranger, ( 1884-1902- when he went to work for the rail road) one of the things he passed on to me was" No man is above the law, nor is he benith it, nor do I ask his permission when I ask him to obey it." That stayed with me all my life. Dad was a deputy sheriff in Cameron County, Texas, Brother Lew started with OSS, went to OSI/USAF, Brother Chuck worked with several strange government agencies, as well as the test lab at Wright Paterson AFB. So I presume I carry some genetic mutatuion.
I would prefer to get a clock on a speeding vehicle---at the time I was on the road the most, just about everyone had some type of warning device--I stopped a GTO one night, the driver had almost $1,000 invested in warning equipment. I watched him trying to check over his equipment, and talk to me at the same time--It was amusing. I finally broke down and told him that I did a simple 1/4 mile clock, and yes, I did have a certified speedometer, done in the last two months. I miss working with some of my fellow officers, when I worked the PD, we had a staff of 12, there are just two of us left, and of nine offficers on the SO, there are five of us left. Time does pass.--

I start to dislike this kind of winter. It´s dark, it´s wet and it´s windy. I don´t mind a clear, but cold day, even with some snow, which makes Mother Nature look like in her wedding dress.
Speed limits and speeding - you all know that Germans are the fastest drivers in the western (civilized) world. Unless otherwise posted, there is no limit on how fast you can go on our "Autobahns". The only "deterrent" is the horrifying price of gas, which makes people drive a lot slower than, say, 30 years ago, although most cars are much faster these days. However, speed limits are vigorously enforced. Any violation is rather expensive and a speed of 30kph above the limit will buy you a 3 to 6 month´s ban and a steep fine. Should you have driven in excess of those 30kph barrier, you can say good bye to your license for a year and you will get it back after you have passed a medical and psychological test. Failure rate is 90%, which means you are a pedestrian from now on!
Steven, I am sorry to say this, but you do display a wrong attitude! It doesn´t matter you got pulled over by the cops because you were the kid in a Mustang in a chain of speeding cars - you were speeding! I think you are driving the wrong kind of car, which is beyond your abilities and I don´t mean the handling of it. My first girl friend was run over by a young driver who thought speed limits are for sissies. She died on her 19th birthday.
Brent - I beat you with only two speeding tickets in 47 years of driving a motor vehicle. Both were debatable, but I preferred to pay the at that time small fine of less than 10 bucks. I was doing not much more than 5kph over the speed limit, the key word being over. The worst in both instances was my wife laughing at me...

After letting the wee critter warm up from sitting in the mailbox for two days, I gave it a run. True to form, it performed as a Rapido should, that is after a decoder reset. Nice sound!
However, I do have some criticisms. First, the headlight and number boards are not particularly bright and they are too 'blue'. I have installed several warm white LEDs in various locomotives with the result that the headlights would actually light up the track ahead just like the real thing. These ones barely cast a glow on my hand when it is directly in front of the locomotive, and they do not properly mimic an incandescent lightbulb IMHO. It is hard to tell whether or not the number boards are lit in normal room lighting.
The roof beacon is also very dim, disappointingly so. I have seen the CP roof beacons in operation and they are really bright. The beacon appears to oscillate nicely, but it is just simply too dim.
If my criticisms seem harsh, they are simply my honest feelings about the locomotive. It is likely that Jason knows better about what colour the headlight and number boards should be, but he might have a hard time defending the lack of brightness. In any case, it is a very, very nice model and one that I will be proud to run.
I seem to have triggered a bit of controversy.
I am well aware of the dangers of speed, and again I'm not mad I got pulled over the second time, speeding is speeding, I just find it ironic that a minivan doing 10 over is usually ignored but the sports car will get pulled for even 5 over, guess it's all about the "potential to go fast" AGAIN not defending speeding just saying the law applies to all, if 4 cars are speeding all 4 should be pulled over.
Also I was clocked on radar when I recieved a ticket, the second time was most probably laser.
And I will say this once again, I have no problem with receiving a ticket, ok I dont drive like a maniac when in traffic, I don't even really push the limits of the Mustang because if I do it would probably kill me, I do plan on investing in a performance driving course in the near future.
