Ken - I am just glad I don´t get kicked out of this place and sent over to the CTT Coffee Pot! It´s a toy layout, partly in the guise of a "real" one. I agree on the track. It dates back to the year 1935 and the only major change made on the design was the introduction of stud contacts instead of a "solid" third rail. People have successfully camouflaged the tin character of it, but I´d like to keep it authentic. Marklin´s newer track with its plastic roadbed, IMHO, looks even worse, so that was not an option for me.
One of the intriguing features of the old stuff is its fantastice reliability and ease of maintenance. All you need to disassemble the loco is a small screwdriver. Everything more or less drops into place. Good old German engineering, like it used to be, but that is history by now.

You paint with a very broad brush. Porshe, BMW and Mercedes seem to be making very good use of 'German engineering' these days!
I think Marklin should be forgiven for trying to make their products more profitable.
FWIW, I think the old stuff is beautiful. Maybe some day I will resurrect my old (and very dusty) Marx O scale set.

all the brands you have mentioned have a number of quality issues due to "over-engineering". The cost of ownership has risen to an astronomical level for that reason!
If you compare a Mercedes made in the early 1960s (the period my trains were made), it was a rather primitive, but rugged vehicle, which was good for up to a million miles! A modern Mercedes is loaded with absolutely unnecessary gadgets, which require frequent maintenance and are subject to failure. It´s like comparing a 1960 brass loco with an open frame Pittman motor with a DCC & Sound equipped BLI loco.
Not everything technically possible makes a better product.

Not far from my place is a nursery specializing in transplanting tall, old trees. Getting one of those trees can easily run up to the cost of a of a loaded premium brand midsize car.
Well, it was not this nursery, but Heki who supplied the first green on my layout, and delivery was made by DHL and not a special load transport business.
A little green does make a difference!
The tree is not yet permanently fixed, just held in place by a short length of double-sided sticky tape.

Very exotic indeed, and - for an African state, quite a lot of railroad action. I hardly know a thing about that country, so if someone would jump in for me and invites us to a ride on the Marrakesh Express, I´d be happy!

Flo, the gang and I will have a please and give Rick and Steven what they like.
Got Sues Car Back. She is now $225.00 poorer. Cost $125.00 to fix the blower motor and I asked Bob to check the windsheild warsher fuse. Well I am a little PO'ed, I asked him to check the fuse. Well fuse was OK so he went a little farer? He checked the pump and it was bad, so he replaced it. Pump was only $20.00 but he had to pull a lot of stuff to get to the pump. I looked and did not want any thing to do with it. Guess I should have said "Check The Fuse Only." So that added $120.00 to the bill. I am not real up set yet, she said she will pay the bill. Bob let me float the bill with only $50.00 down, I have never stiffed him. We will she what she does.
Health Front. Not good.
1 The Right Great Toe Looks Infected again. It is red around the callus and looks like a active ulcer to me. I am going to a local ER Room Friday and try to get the VA to pay for it. Last time I went to the VA ER with a foot ulcer the Doctor had no idea what they where looking at. I was asked "Why are you hear?".
2 Please don't tell me what to do on this subect please, but I got to stop smoking. I hate being told what to do, one of the reason I was not a Lifer in the Army and tried to all wise be the boss.
I am starting to feel short of breath, not awfull but not normal. A1C has been good (reason I thought I have been feeling bad and tired) and lost around 30 pounds! Yet I still do not feel like doing anything. Even Fun Stuff.
Thing about trying the Vapor Thing. Talked with a guy I know at Shop and Save and he did sy he felt better using the Vapor Thing. I all so know I got to get off nictone!
PRR Coach Wars, Lake Merrett Coach 1 Ken 0. Could not even make it down a straight section with open turnouts! Going to check the wheels first to make sure they are in gauge and then go from there.
ATF On The Rails! I swear ATF works! The Mighty B&O F7's started satalling on a open turnout. Few drops of ATF before the turnout and few higher speed runs? Running great again!

Hope your health improves, I had a infected ingrown toenail, finally went to a doctor for it, it had become abscessed and when the doc cut it out the nail that was in there was a half centimeter deep at least.

I've spent several days redoing my backdrops, around the room. I used sheet rock and got it all smooth, and rounded in the corners using slices out of mailing tubes and drywall tape so there are no sharp inside corners.
Ready to paint; I just have to open the door to vent to, and draw warm air from the great outdoors. Except, it's cool and raining. It'll have to wait. I also went all through the room vacuuming white dust from drywall and sanding.

I did that - just put out my last cigarette a few years ago and that was all. Don´t try to fool yourself with any vapor thingy, chewing gum or whatever - just quit and forget about it. All you need is to have your mind set on quitting!
June location - there is no sense in chosing a location if someone is not willing to go through the trouble of compiling info on it and sharing it with us. It takes some effort and, frankly, I won´t be doing this every month. So here is my suggestion - anyone who comes up with an idea on a location should be prepared to take us on a guided tour. It doesn´t have to be as extensive as I did in the past, but should give us an overview on where we are, what´s going on there and what trains we can expect to see.
If that is asking too much, we have the option of doing what we did in previous years - call the switcher and move the Diner to a new track.

Had my blood drawn at the hospital. I asked about one of the blood drawers who used to be a secretary 25 years ago. She had a gastric bypass, since I saw her last and the said she lost a lot of weight. She was closer to 400 than 300 so that would be a good thing.
I only bought a couple of albums until I became a college freshman, the year Led Zeppelin 2 came out. There are lyrics on that album we best not discuss, although no worse than what you hear on cable news these days.
I vote for Arizona. Flagstaff is a hotbed of webcam activity, there is a train to the Grand Canyon and a couple abandoned railroads. Plus we have some Arizonians on board that know more than the rest of us.
