Didn't get a chance to do any programming on Oliver's train adventure today. Had an appointment with the cardiologist today. So did my step mother. We had worked it out so our appointments were withing twenty minutes of each other. Even so we didn't get out of there until about 4:30. My father met us there and since it was too late to go home and cook dinner we went to Fox's Pizza Den. Trouble about a place like that is I almost always have to be rolled out. On the cardiologist report, they found the blocked blood vessel. The doc says it's not big enough to worry about so it looks like I'm gonna have to learn to live with the whooshing racket in my ears.Well that's all for today. See y'all tomorrow.

Good morning from New England! It's the first snow of the season here. Nothing significant, as it's nothing more than a few flakes mixed with a light drizzle. The ground and roads are still well above freezing, and even the air temperature is in the mid 30s, but, well, it is snow. As one who eagerly awaits the start of ski season, it's a welcome sight indeed.
Our daughter is in California, at a Neuroscience conference in San Diego. I got a text that she was planning to go to the Stone Brewery Beer Garden. They make one of my favorites, Arrogant Bastird (deliberately misspelled to avoid Nanny filters) among other worthy beers. I'm jealous.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I'm not feeling good today so I'll probably not be on much. I have a games disk coming by mail today. Some old adventure games. Big Quest, Kid's Adventure, Earthquest and Grungy Towers. I can use these to get more ideas for obstacles to put in Oliver's path.

Currently it is 48 with an expected high of 67 under a mix of cloudy and sunny skies.
Had a cardiologist appointment yesterday, everything looks good except BP is a little high. He wants me to try the lowest dose water pill available for a month, and take my BP twice a day and mail him the results every 30 days to see if that helps. The results of the stress test I took last Thursday did not show anything adverse, and in fact, the 120 images that were taken, shows my heart looks real good he said.
W**k today, but I may get a chance to look at an SW1500 loco that is running a bit erratic. Other than that not much else going on.

Got to go shopping for train stuff! For the "4-almost 5 year old "grand nephew""!
GOt some stuff. We will give a few, the Grandpas we shopped for will give a few.
A DCC steamer loco/controler set; a track package of Atlas, {with the track shortage Atlas and others have, it was easiest to get to get NS track instead of cheesy steel track}; H2O tank {they had no coaling towers in stock}; a station set {platform and common station}; A house; a foam tunnel {cheesy but he will enjoy it going and disappearing}; A tanker car; a refer; a gondola; and a caboose. Nothing special to them, just cheap easy to play with.
Only 10 items, all the cheapest I could get stuff that was in stock today, but still cost $250 at wholesaletrains.com. The track work and loco/dcc set came to $130 alone. I had to pony up more for the gondola as the one I chose that WAS in stock this AM was gone by the time I got there, someone beat me to it!
I won't rant on "how expensive the hobby has gotten"!

Wiped out I am. That and get this:::: the news {local] said this:::: "Today the Binghamton area got nearly 1 and half inches of sn*w, which caused some schools delays and problems!!!"
Now when I went to school, it took6- 8 inches OR MORE of sn*w or a blizzard to "cause schools delays and problems"!!! And I would WALK to school, UP hill both ways! {true that: there was a valley betwixt the school and my house, so there was UP hill to get to the school, and UP hill to get to my house located near the base of another hill, but high enough to walk UP hill to get to it.}
They close schools now at 3"..BAH HUMBUG, I say, make 'em go to school!
Ojh well, I digress, I know, I am a "grumpy old man".

Woke up to the first 2" snowfall of the year. Some Espresso and a steak burrito would have been good.Things haven't gone well since my last post about a year ago. (toe amputation)I've had 8 surgeries with 6 of them being amputations in the last year. Ended up losing my left leg above the knee from osteomylitus (SP?)Now in a wheel chair with a $25k prosthetic leg that I can't balance/walk on very well. Gonna build my next layout a little closer to ground level!Don't feel bad for me. I'm doing just fine. Still have my killer great electronics job. My company stuck with me through all the hospital stuff! THEY are my new family that has my back.
Two months after last amputation, (4 months ago) a woman blows a red light in front of me on my way to work. MAJOR 50 mph wreck! Both cars totaled! I'm wrecked, down in a ditch and can't get to my wheelchair to see who's hurt (or alive) Cars driving past and no one stopping to help!Finally the cops show up and sort things out and we're all uninjured. (woman that caused the wreck admitted she was playing patty cake with her 4 year old grand daughter when she blew the red light and caused the wreck) She's lucky the little girl isn't dead. I hit the passenger door where the girl was sitting and she didn't have a seat belt on. I came out of it with a better vehicle than I had, but still.... people need to pay more attention to the road and not their cell phones/children/stereos/etc...etc...I'll get off my soap box now and wish all of you a happy winter/train modelling season! span="" id="mce_marker" data-mce-type="bookmark">

Distracted driving is the #1 cause of accidents, many lives could be saved if people would put down whatever is distracting and just focus on driving. Fortunately everyone lived in the case, it is sad when an innocence person dies because someone was sending a text. IT CAN WAIT!!! I've got a hands free smart phone and I won't answer it while I'm driving. People get mad, but I don't care. There's too many distracted drivers to look out for. Even in a parking lot at 5MPH!phone calls can wait! We have a news celebrity guy whose daughter just slammed into the back of a semi and died while texting.She had a full ride to a journalism school and a job waiting for her after graduation.Her father is devastated and can barely do his job on air.

Just make sure they have all the infection killed and you don't start to get a skin rash from the liner. (gold bond powder helps)MAKE SURE YOUR INFECTUES DISEASE DOCTOR KNOWS WHAT ANTIBIOTICS HE'S GIVING YOU!!! Mine screwed up and that's why I lost my knee joint and you defiantly don't want THAT to happen! It's 10 times harder to walk with an AK leg/knee than a BK foot and socket.

Hey y'all. Thanks to all those north of me (that would be a great deal of you) for sending this cold and windy weather down here to Alabama. Low tonight is expected to be 29, high tomorrow of 50 (according to the weather prognosticators, if we're lucky). Right now is not all that cold, but it is VERY VERY breezy. Welp, I've been digging through MB Klein's website looking at all the things I "need" (mostly just really want as I don't have a layout to actually put anything on). I've also been researching industries (past and present) that the ACL/SCL/SBD/CSX line through my area serves/served. Seems that a large part of past generation's business was wood-related with several untreated tie plants and pulpwood industries along the line that are now unfortunately long gone. Been thinking about "what if" there were still those industries along the way, how much different the traffic along the line would be.
Well, that's about it for me, loathar, glad to see you are back, but not too glad to see and hear about your medical issues, prayers to you sir for a speedy recovery (and prayers for all those on the mend!)

Regarding distracted driving. .... Several years ago I was in the cab of a locomotive in Michigan. We saw a small pickup truck on a cross road approaching the track. It was a country road with only crossbucks for protection. The locomotive horn was sounding. It was a clear day but the little pickup truck drove into the path of the train. A young man and a young women were in the pickup truck. The lady was screaming loudly until the Fire Department arrived about ten minutes later. Both the man and the women had badly mangled legs, and it took a while to get them into ambulances. .... Must have been distracted driving. There is no other explanation for the accident.
My friend, Gus, was operating a train that hit a loaded concrete truck. Again, distracted driving was the cause. On a clear day, the truck crossed the track in front of the locomotive. Five units and 75 cars went off the rails. Fortunately, there were no injuries to locomotive crew.

I see all yall Southerners done gots some chillyness goin' on down there.... We done got a bit up here in the North as well. Temps here aren't much worse though. Right now it is 26°F with a low around 23°F on towards morning. Even got a little bit of white stuff on the ground to make everthin look purdy! I have the wood stove cranking to keep the house toasty warm and am about to go snuggle down on the carpet right next to it and get warm before bed.
Had to go visit the vampire lady over at the very big doctors corporation here in town. I do have a bad feeling about my blood sugar. Think it is creeping up where I don't like it to be... I did go celebrate by having the #2 at Water Street Cafe as soon as I lost the blood... Came home and kept over eating all day. Just took my evening read for the sugar and it is 144... Go figure?
Loathar, good to see you back, but sorry to hear of your health issues. Hope everything is now good and will stay that way for you!
Tomorrow evening I have a meeting with the president of the the model train club at RIT and a couple club advisers. MY MNRA Treasurer will be along as well. We will be discussing the 2015 NMRA Region Convention that my Division is hosting to see what might work out the best. Tomorrow the driving weather is supposed to be much better in these parts, so I'm glad it wasn't tonight.....

Although I have yet to have an ampendage removed, I was "blessed" have bad health issues all around and have had some things "ectomy-ed" and should probably have a few more things "ectomy-ed". Could use a whole new lung transplant, but not yet. Maybe a few years from now.These ones are giving me trouble thats becoming more severe as time passes.When you get winded walking 2/10thof a mile on a flat paved surface to the mailbox, or get winded simply putting your clothes on, maybe it is getting serious.
Jeffrey can commiserate directly with you on the loss of a leg. He has already hooked up wiht you I see.
We here in the diner, often share our infirmeries and commiserate with each other! Power of prayer, whether you believe or not, CAN make a difference! We have a tight knit group that seems to work to our advantage.

I guess,you could call me a ''lurker'', Just turned,71 this month and I surely can attest,to having,Medical,problem's, fortunately, I have all my limbs, aside from some disability problem's,I got from Vietnam,which are acting up more and more,the older I get, I just try to take one day at a time and thank the power to be for that. People helping other's,is a great way,to share compassion, I was a volunteer worker at the VA Hospital at Hines IL. for a few year's and the Vets there,who had no one,really appreciated any friendship..I try not to complain,but sometimes,it is good to know,that we are not alone.

Woke up to a bit of snow today and was quite cold putting thr trash out to the curb. Made that first cup of coffee of the day that much better ( off work for the rest of week, guys can PM if they want more ) have a few errands to run at some point today and want to work on some stuff in the workshop.
Have to say I haven't done much railroading at all, at this point I have no idea when I will. With 99% of the layout done there are very few projects to do, and none that really interest me.
Good morning, everyone! Yesterday's snow in New England amounted to exactly nothing on the ground here, but the air is distinctly colder this morning.
Tuesday night is hockey night, which make Wednesday morning a struggle just to get out of bed. Somehow, I've managed to get through the workday all these years. I had a "Tuesday Night Shutout" last night, which we define as giving up anything less than 10 goals. Yeah, it's that kind of hockey, and my 11-8 victory was a rather low-scoring game by our standards. Sometimes, I think they let an old guy like me play because I give up enough goals to make everyone happy. Win or lose, it's good exercise and fun, and we all get together, drink beer and laugh afterwards.

Good morning. It's 31° with 84% humidity which makes it feel like 25°. The high will be 52°. Freeze warning in effect from 2 AM to 8 AM cst Thursday.I actually had to turn on the heater out here in the office this morning. It was 78° in the house but only 45° in here. I may get to do some more work on Oliver's train adventure. That is if nothing else gets in the way. No plans set in stone today.

Loathar- Wow! What a year! But by golly you are taking it well. Attitude is 90% or better in life. I’m glad to hear you are doing well and that accident, what can I say that you haven’t. Also glad to hear from you again too.
I’ve always claimed from the day they started blaming the cell phone, and I’m in no way saying it doesn’t play a big part, it’s the distraction that plays the part in the accident, whether it be a conversation or patty cake, NOT the act of putting the phone to your ear. Most places/states, have gone to this no cell phone use while driving unless using a hands free device. Well, a handsfree device does nothing to get rid of the distraction of the conversation. Laws to stop holding the phone to your ear only serve two purposes. 1. To sell more stuff for the phones. (they are however fine if you like them and want them for your convenience) and 2. The only thing the hands free devices do is allow you to keep your hands on the wheel. If that is the case then there will be no eating, drinking, smoking, talking with your hands ( ), or changing radio stations or volume or any of the million other reasons people take at least one hand off the wheel. Shoot, many people, myself included, drive with only one hand on the wheel more than half the time in the first place. Sooooo, it’s just an empty attempt at looking like they are trying to do something.
Frank’s right. Sometimes we aren’t complaining, it’s just good to….”get it off the chest” I suppose. Don’t know how to describe it, but it does feel good to know not everyone is non-compassionate and that if a ear needs to be bent, there's someone willing to listen.
Another busy day today. Among them a couple things going on at the restaurant and Brenda has an errand for me to run for the Foundation, gotta pick up some water proofing resurfacer for my buddy’s basement he wants some shelves, no….his wife wants some shelves in the basement because she’s running out of room for the restaurant catering stuff and since I’m doing that, they’d like the walls (cinder block) water proofed before I put up the wall of shelves. I told them don’t bet on it waterproofing the basement, but this is the best I can do. For better (and a guarantee), call a pro. He says I’m cheaper, she says I am her pro. Reality and flattery, can’t complain about either.
