If anyone was to steal my Avatar of my favourite locomotive, New Zealand Government Railways Ja 1267, I'd suggest that they were persons of great taste and perspicacity, a bit like Frank I guess.Smile, Wink & Grin

Good show M. ( I feel like I'm in a James Bond movie) Now on to more serious things, Where do you stand on the Hockey front?

Well when I was a young lad I was a fan of the Maple Leafs but I'm not much of a fan of hockey any more. My father was a die hard fan of the Canucks since their inception, it would have been nice for him to see them win the cup before he passed on a few years ago.

The Canucks were up near my home a few weeks ago for a fund raising fishing derby and my sons school went to meet them which was pretty cool. They played a little floor hockey with the kids and signed a few autographs, I think my son is now a Canuckle head like his Grandpa!

Ha, you ought to live in Chicago and be a Cubs fan.   Last time they were in the World Series was 1871, the same year as the Chicago Fire.

Actually there was no Cubs baseball team in 1871. It was known as the 'White Stockings'.It became known as the Chicago Cubs in 1876 with the development of teh National League. And you apparently forgot the Cubs won back to back  world series championships in 1907 and 1908 becoming the first Major League team to play three times in the Fall Classic and first to win it twice. However they haven't won a World Series since.

Tis why I have a scanner that can take 35mm photo slides whether they be negative or print.

Jeffrey, I'd love to be able to take all my parents old slides and put them on the computer. There are lots of old layout pics in there from when I was a wee laddy. What is a decent scanner for the task and what am I going to pay for such a beast.

The one here is an HP Scanjet 3970. It's a flatbed scanner that has an attachment in the cover in which a slide can be inserted. It also has a sleeve that can hold a film strip or negative. The sleeve inserts into the same place that a slide would. Besides slides, flim and negatives it will scan documents up to 8.5 x 14. You can expect to pay from $160 to probably $225 for such a unit. There are cheaper units that are just for converting 35mm film, negatives and slides that go for under $100. Examples are the DBTech 35mm film, slide and negative scanner. It's Mac and PC compatible and can operate as a standalone unit. Near as I can tell it saves the images to SD cards. Another example is the Pandigital PANSCN03 slide and negative scanner that can be had for under $40. It can scan to your PC via a USB 2.0 connection or it can save directly to a SD/MMD memory card. There are others you can see via THIS LINK.

I have an Epson V100.   It does only 35mm as slides (4 at a time) or negatives (as strips), but it will also do prints up to 9"x12", and the cover will accommodate books if you wish to scan text or images from them.  It also does colour correction, and allows you to clean-up the image and scan it in various resolutions.  There's a reconditioned one HERE for under fifty bucks.

Jeffrey and Wayne, thanks for the info. I had my Sister and brother in-law over for dinner last night and told her I was going to buy one of these slide scanners and they said that bought one at Costco about six months ago for about a hundred bucks. They said I could use it anytime. Talk about luck.

Frank, Very cool having those old cars. My neighbour has eleven antique cars, all with spoke wheels. He has a steam car that makes a really loud whistle the whole time he's driving it. You hear him coming a mile away. Once a year there is a meet of some sort held at his house and we get all these old cars (maybe a hundred) come into the neighbourhood on trailers. People from all over the U.S. and Canada. They then unload and go on a day long road trip somewhere. Many hang out for the whole weekend. Even though it turns the neighbourhood upside down it is a lot of fun.

You will have to post more pics down the road.
