This is one amazing thread! I've been a fan of Allen's work ever since I saw an ad for Westcott's book in 1997. I think I'm asking for a lot here, but can anyone post some (color)pictures of the layout (the last version, that is). I think it would be a good idea to show this to those who are new to the hobby... and provide that John Allen inspiration.

johnallenfan

please do not question why andy would not want to respond to your email that way he would probably pay you a mint if he felt it was a authentic john allen loco
also you haave been making refrences to the G&D and you seem to change your story a little bit everytime you seem backed into a corner okay so it might be real but probably isnt and why couldnt keith post that on the web for himself i bet he would love to contribute to this fourm. also this is like trying to say that your trying to find a penny that was in a certain cashregister at a certain store at a certain time day month and year...its not possible to prove but not impossible. also you seem to threaten to leave well we gave you our opinions on the validitity of your claims and you seem not to like that the majority of us have said it isnt probable that its a john allen peice. also if you were told it was a authentic JA then why come on here and try to prove that its is and then not accept anyother possiblity than that it is soley john allens. please give me a break if thats all what you are going to do on this forum i would ask you to please not post anymore "blinder" posts unless you have your facts straight from the get go and can sufficently back up your claims.

Jesse,
Johnallenfan definitely has a small loco painted by John. It was painted at one of our operating nights for demonstration. John never owned this loco, but it is his paint work. John painted several for me and other friends. I posted that info on the G&D Yahoo forum when this forum was pointed out to me. I do not post much anymore, because there is too much xxx on these forums by people that have no idea what the facts are. Everyone searches for the MDC cars with G&D logos and other stuff. But when they come across a real item from the G&D, or an old friend of John's, or even one of the operators, they ridicule and make jealous remarks and bogus stories. I will not post on this subject again. I am not a collector of G&D stuff. I was just a friend. Cheers, Keith

I guess no pictures of the G&D can be posted.
I've been with a G&D group on Yahoo! and there are plenty of pictures of the first and second layouts (courtesy of former operators). unfortunately they're all in black and white. It seems that the rights to almost all things John Allen are held by Kalmbach and those things are concentrated on a book (Model Railroading With John Allen) which has been out of print for a while and is incredibl hard to find, and when you find it, it usually goes for about $130!

Here's the little background info I foundabout the GD line:
