An old Reading Trainmaster is shined up and lending a hand as a westbound Alpha Jet rolls through Williamsport.

I'm new to the Forum and new to the Weekend PhotoFun things, but all this stuff has left me a little confused.  I-5 New Haven posted a link to a video he made and then seemed tick that no one commented about it.  When someone did respond to his request for comments and said they didn't like it and thought it was bad, everyone else gave this guy jktrains a hard time for giving a I-5 what he wanted.  Now I'm reading the rest of the posts and see where TrainManTy is telling Bapou that his scenery needs to be improved and davidmbedard is criticizing SD60M for posting too small a picture yet that seems to be OK.  So being new at both the forum and MRRing I'm confused as to what the purpose of this Weekend Photo Fun is all about.

I suggest, so that this doesn't get into areas we don't want to explore, that you do a search under "Weekend Photo Fun", and read the early ones in February, plus the one from two weeks ago.  Between them, you should get a good appreciation for what WPF is meant to be, and what a very few would love for it to be.

Asking someone to increase the size of an image is just a request to see more.  It is not a criticism.  Telling someone that they got most of what they posted wrong, and not doing it constructively, is not what this thread is about.

I hope that helps.

We'd all have more Weekend Photo Fun and more photos and videos to view if some people remembered the topic of the thread. I for one am about to the point of ignoring WPF (and maybe the forums here altogether) if this constant nitpicking, insulting, and berating doesn't stop. Its  a shame the moderators have to keep riding herd on here. I had been optimistic things would improve, but I'm about ready to throw in the towel.

The maturity level of some of the younger members of the forum is surely much greater than some of the "older". This could be called the "GOM forum" --Grumpy Old Men!

Grow up, people! Can't we get through ONE weekend without this stuff?

OK, here's the simple rundown

WPF is supposed to be rather lighthearted/nice thread for the past weeks projects. Essentially think of it as a show and tell for recent developments.  This is in contrast to other threads, such as "lookie my new <fill-in-the-blank> that I built" in which people are looking for more critical comments.

The thing with I-5 was that he posted the link and then started asking for comments (people don't always comment specific people, ususally a "great job everyone" type thing). jktrains bit, and probably a little too hard on that request...

Now, the constructive criticism type comments (use a bigger pic/higher res/whatever) are generally "allowed" and civil -- eg "great couple of shots, but you'll get better ones with a higher f-stop" or something similar.

hope this helped clear some things up a bit Smile [:)]

Im new here and I am also confused by this above.  This guy post some of the worst photos and his modeling skills are far from even decent yet he is trying to give advice to someone else?  That is so strange to me and kinda crazy.  There is also another guy here who I swear is this same guy as the quoted above JW.  Their pictures look very similar and their layouts look so much alike.  So weird.

JK gave honest opinion as this guy asked for and when he does people get onto to him for it.  he was just honest and it was NOT mean.  The guy asked for it and he just TOLD THE TRUTH.  What is up with this forum?  Sensoring the truth or opinions that are not "typical".  What a strange forum.

It also shows what can be done with proper lighting where the source is large enough (the sun), in a single spot. and not against a flat bacdrop (something that's always bugged me in model RR photos). I'm not criticizing either photo, just noting how much better the outdoor one looks. Shame we (most of us anyway) cannot build our layouts outdoors and use the real sky for a full time backdrop.

I agree with Lothar, Mike, Well Done!!

Now now no need to be confused, sometimes there are arguments in this forum but it does serve the purpose it implies, Showing photos of what we have gotten done since our last visit whether it be new loco's(like me)! Or a complete layout. We do have fun seeing each others pic's or vid's dispite some occasional arguments. I dont mind that David said my pic was too small, actually im glad he pointed it out! I dont want people to have to use a telescope to see my pics! I also welcome you to the forum and hope that you come to like it as much as we have!

Apparently not, Ken.  Apparently not.  Let's look forward, with hope, to the next one.  I will take some confidence that perhaps Bergie's message found a home.

This one is officially over.
