#1, 2, & 3 Clean and organize the layout room. Find a place to store everything and put everything in it's place. After the better part of 3 days, I crossed this one off yesterday afternoon. This is going to make it possible to tackle the rest of the list.

4. Rewire the turnouts in the main yard. This was neccesitated my a move of the control panel.

5. Finish the structures for town of Bedford Falls. Most of these are done. I have two South River Models kits to build, the depot and hotel from their Cambridge Crossing set. I will probably have more structures than I have space for so will then have to make a final cut after I decide which combination looks right.

6. Build the base scenery terrain between Bedford Falls and Grover Crossing.

7. Complete structures for Grover Crossing.

8. Do finished scenery for Bedford Falls, Grover Crossing and in between. This will give me a continuous stretch of scenicked layout from Bedford Falls at the west end through the main yard and industrial area in the main city of Franklinton. The rest of Franklinton is still plywood flats.

9 Begin building the urban scenery for Franklinton, starting with the large station and the REA Transfer building.

If I can complete all that this winter, I will give myself a huge pat on the back. The rest of the urban area will have to wait until next year. With almost 30 square feet of urban scenery to fill, that will takes some time. When that is done I will have a completely scenicked main line. I can then begin work on the branch line which is still on the drawing board.

Scratchbuild or kitbash 16 AS416s

Finish Beaufort and Morehead Whitcombs

Paint A&EC GP7, 2 F2As, and RS1

Scratchbuild two 44 tonners

Scratchbuild a couple ten wheelers

Scratchbuild a Norfolk Southern F1 2-8-4

Finish Beaufort and Morehead SW1200

Do a couple Beaufort and Morehead 2-6-2s

Kitbash a B unit to go with my babyface DR4-4-1500 A unit

Build a model of Graf Zeppelin (the carrier, not the airship)

Continue building the layout

Build a couple NS freight motors and railbuses

Paint a few 2-8-0s for NS (The Bachman is close to a Class F3)

Scratchbuild an Atlantic and East Carolina bay window

Kitbash a few NS wood cabooses, as well some NS steel cabooses.

Kitbash a couple low nose GP18s  for NS

Maybe kitbash or scratchbuild a pair of Seabord DR6-4-1500 babyfaces.

Scratchbuild a centipede

finish kitbashing Norfolk Southern/A&EC passenger train

Build a couple trollys for New Bern

Scratchbuild the various stations along the modeled route.

Kitbash Beaufort and Morehead pile driver.

Build a couple of 70 tonners once the kits are done.

Now all this could be cut down significantly if I were to just go ahead and choose an era, but no matter what I have a lot of work ahead of me.

I can't do steam era without ten wheelers, and no American prototypes are offered in N outside of brass.

I can't do diesel era without AS416s, and no one even makes an AS16 or 616.

There's just something about sailing. Maybe it's the pretty girl serving as a bow ornament.

Apply second layer of plaster to the new mountain range.

Sweep up scraps around layout.

Put down new ground foam.

Clean the rails.

Call this layout done, sell it, build my new one.

In the meantime... continue converting to KD's, weathering, planning for new layout, get a job.

****Thats pretty much the important outline.

Since my wife and I separated, the "wifey" to do list vanished.. Smile [:)] But the layout list? That's another story.

  1. Scenery - texture and landscape existing scenery
  2. Scenery - build mountain for mining operation
  3. Scenery - street for downtown area
  4. Assemble buildings - I think I have about 12 kits down there waiting for me.
  5. Wiring - track AND structure lighting
  6. Lay track for hidden staging
  7. Lay track for NEW siding.
  8. Replace plastic wheelsets with metal ones.
  9. And, oh yeah - Knee replacement Sad [:(]

Well, that should keep me busy WELL into the new year.

Assembly of the Falls Bearing Company continues.

Such a large kit takes an amazing amount of time on the workbench. I think I spend about a few hours several times per week for the last 5 weeks or so working on it.

Im pushing forward to have it complete by Christmas. Ive not certain exactly what will happen because I decided to use the coal dump as a semi trailer coal dump. There isnt exactly good spacing for the coal dump track. Im also leaning towards bashing a Walthers McGraw Oil Depot as a spare fuel source for the boiler house. That way I can run fuel tankers once in a while for variety.

I will post images at some point this month. But not just yet. Im no Bob Greech, I subscribe to the "Good enough" school.

Everything else is on hold until this industry is considered finished. These rather large places take up an amazing amount of resources to make happen.

Move Marx train set to living room under Christmas tree.....done.

Well, I guess that might not count as far as the layout goes, but it was something to do with a train!

Team Track in progress:

 http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/9133/teamtrackcraneiq5.jpg

Not done yet. Weather, ballast and scenic to a structure base, get the threads on hook straighter and convert the Kato Bumper end to a TOFC ramp/Frieght platform further down the track.

That little kit took me a week. Drove me crazy with mental imagery that needed rotating all three axis, figuring out what goes where and how to defeat gravity with some of the parts. One thing it did do was take several cans of regular flat black paint. All glue spots buried. In fact, the truth is I rebuilt this kit several times over tearing parts apart when the next set of parts didnt fit right. But no complaints here!

Walthers give good instructions but leaves alot up to you.

I didnt waste time with thier plastic track. I bought some HO bare rails and gooed it down, I'll deal with the ties and shiny plastic later. The flat car and truck is RTR.

I've built one Jordan vehicle in the past 3 weeks.  The rest of my train-related to-do list is unchanged.  We had a heavy duty snowstorm last night, about a foot of the stuff.  I'm pretty much shovelled out, but now I've got to go down to the appliance store and replace the ice maker.  Sort of ironic.

I'm like everyone else. Lay track for one more yard and two more spurs. Build some of the 15  kits on the bottom shelf(YA,YA. I buy them on sale for future use). Make 200 trees. Clean the CAT hair out of a GP-7, it quit. And,I just finished job one, that was at the top of the list. I installed a screen door on the train room to keep my two furry friends and their fur out. Continue with the factory buildings.

Build Boiler House this week.

I continue to work on the complex overall.

Begin construction starting in one corner and working along the wall, replacing the temporary surface with a pernament one.

One thing about those Walthers Modulars. The one building took me a week to lay the foundation and first floor and another to do the second etc.

The boiler house was complete with it's single floor, foundation and roofing prepared in less than a day including drying time for the safeweld. Now I watch paint dry and buy more paint to finish the building.

Buy new knife blades to replace dulled one.

Ah.  A to do list. Well, I took down my 3 line layout so I could build a music room for my son, (  and other musicians in the family), but I'm so itching to get the trains back up. It will be a condensed version but still at least two lines runnig and I hope a trolly line. (May have to put the 'N' line back up). Nice thing about that is the platform is always run ready!Smile [:)]

Photos?

One moment as I dig them up. Links to follow shortly.

Budliner you might want to consider model airplane engine fuel line for that work or perhaps hearing aid tubing for behind the ear for that little engine.

Here are the photos so far.

I still have to go over all the window glass and remove the dried window glass adhesive that comes off with the tip of the xacto blade. The final space for the entire industry has not yet been completed and there are three more buildings and doo dads still to go.

There is a glass top on that work table. The windex helps keep it clean. The buildings come off of that glass reasonably flat but errors are not too drastic and easily sceniced over.

If you recognize the kits, a cookie for you. Part of it is the Sterling Dairy Kit from Walthers and the other Part is from a out of production team track kit, and the Boiler house is from the Tannery Factory Kit with extra parts added on.

I expect to finish the Tannery kit in a month or so. Then there is the small details like signage etc.

The result should be a one hell of a industry taking up one wall on the railroad and should provide the citizens of Falls Valley a good place to work for a long time.

If I ever finish the thing.

This was the small boiler house from the Tannery kit, I used extras leftover to make a real boilerhouse.

There will be a spur and clerk's office out back eventually.

I might dullcote that roof and kill the shine. I dont know yet.

After thinking about it for 6 months I finally completed my new work bench.  My previous work bench was a few boards strung across some saw horses.

My layout is composed of dominoes, so I was going to construct some additional blank dominoes for two new staging yards; one for each end of the layout.  As the layout grows I will keep moving the staging yards.  My job takes me away from home for long periods of time and I like to take a few of the dominoes with me to work on, then bring them home to the layout.

I use 3/4" plywood cut into 1x4 lumber.  I went to LOWES and asked them to cut the plywood for me.  I was told it was against company policy to rip anything less than 12".  I need to find a new supplier.

Well, lets see.....

move the garden shed to the other side of the yard so i can build a bigger shed to hold the stuff in the garage so i can add 12 feet to the end of the garage so i can start to finish the inside of the garage so i can start building the layout. But it has to stop snowing before that happens. Banged Head [banghead]  Oh, and a new breaker box would be nice.......Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

My list has bloated this week. It's not the construction of buildings or the track work. It's the 1000 little details. Yeesh.

More to come if I survive this experience.

Last time I posted that my list was bloated. Now I consider it manageable.

This week, finish Materials hoist house/unloader.

Finish Substation and control house.

Wait for hobby shop orders. (Wont be long)

Continue with construction of the final large building, the Machine Shop now that the design was complete.

I have had an oppertunity to get alot of painting done very quickly outside due to warm temps and fair wind.
