I just got the new catelog. dont know if anyone else has yet, but I really like the dedication to bruce walthers at the front. made some very intersting reading. If you havnt seen it yet, next time your in your local hobby shop, pick up one and read the story.

Their ads in the magazines say $9.95 again. I thought it might have been a one time 75th anniversary price.
Hopefully I might get one for nothing. After submitting photos to their catalogs for 20 years, I got away from it. Sent some in last year, hope they've used at least one of mine. If so, I get a freebie.
If anyone sees the "Magic of Model Railroading" section and a photo with my name on it, please pass it along. I would normally get the free one several weeks after they are out to the dealers. Thanks in advance!

Bob Boudreau,
Good news -- two of your photos are in the Magic of Model Railroading section of the 2008 HO scale catalog.
On page 628 is your Nighttime at Lomax Lumber Company photo and on page 630 they used your Fundy Northern Railroad's Climax #6 photo.
Congratulations! Your check is in the mail.
Got my copy at the LHS yesterday for 9.99. Makes for great reading in the reading room!!
Bob,
Love looking at photos of your work!

Yes I noticed Bob B's photos immediately as I paged through the store copies at the Terminal Hobby Shop in Milwaukee. A very nice showcase for his work.
I think maybe Walthers has discovered that there is a point of diminishing returns on catalog price. It had gotten to the point where I was buying a new one every 3 years or so but I will be buying them every year again if they keep the price around $10.

I for one appreciate the good modeling shown in the catalog. Very well done.
20 years ago, one bought the Catalog at what? 20 dollars? and it was the end-all for keeping up on what is availible in the hobby. There was no internet that was useable for families back then.
Today I suspect Walthers lowered the pricing because of the Internet. A few strokes on the keyboard reveals all you want to know (And generates questions) about anything in the hobby.
If you looked at my Catalog Buying history.. I would say one every year until about 2000 then once every 2-4 years or longer. Now that the pricing is under 10 dollars, I can go back to getting one every year.
To tell you the truth, Horizion Hobbys and other large Distributors might want to consider catalogs as well in HO scale.
What I have done is started to compile my 2008 buying out of the book and slowly email the hobby shop so they can pre-order these items and have them before the dreaded "Retired Model" appears.
Wait a minute.. they STILL show "Retired model" here and there...

Thanks! You just made my day! If anyone has the time, would it be possible to see if there were photos from a buddy of mine, Gerry Gilliland? He too submitted some photos, the first in a long time too.
If this is the photo they used -
Then I've been getting good mileage out of it, as it won Second Place in the color model contest at the National Narrow Gauge Convention in Portland last week!
I've posted photos of the convention in seven different sets on the Flickr site. You canchoose whichever or all sets to view, one at a time. I'd suggest picking the slide show option because you can zip through at your own pace by clicking on the right arrow. Here's the set: http://tinyurl.com/yukrs4
picked my copy up yesterday and they were giving away last years catalog

I get one every year--enjoy browsing it, but also like having a reference source for discontinued models that come up on ebay and what their original list price was.

No, sorry, no photos by Gerry Gilliland. The Lomax Lumber photo they used is of the Mack 18-ton diesel switcher.

Thanks for the reply and for looking. Guess I'll wait until I get my catalog to pass along the info to Gerry.
Much appreciated!
