Spent most of the day working in this corner.  Made some progress and last was to stage these light weights that I got over a year ago with the new E8.

They will need some work obviously, new couplers, trucks, some re-painting.  But, at least they are the MKT Texas Special flag ship colors.

Regards,

Wow Tom that's really a Beautiful Train !!

I really miss seeing the old green MKTs pulling the gravel hoppers down I-10

I guess the tracks end out in Katy now

Great work everyone. If I were to convey my awe and appreciation for every person's work, this post would be considerably longer than the ridiculous length it is now.

I'm chiming in here pretty late this weekend, not to mention some of the photos are overdue from last weekend. Whistling [:-^]

First shot is from quite a ways back. I really liked the perspective in this shot, and the S4 worked really well with the industrial background to create a nice industrial ambience. The S4 is owned by Guilford Guy, the same fellow who owns the 70 tonner featured in some of Ty's shots.

Why do people keep taking my trains Sad [:(]

Great shots Tyler! Did she make it up the grade? lol, she needs a little weight. I can't wait to see 1751 or 1184 head up that pass. with a nice train!!!

Are you planning on keeping it a meandering branchline or are you thinking of a 50mph higher speed route?

Uh, because you consistently leave them at my home along with two pairs of house keys? Just maybe? Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Exactly! He hasn't left any keys at my layout yet, but I guess it's just a matter of time!Big Smile [:D]

Alex; I just posed your loco on the grade. I have ran it up before with a similer consist, and there's a TON of wheelslip, depending on the consis, sometimes it makes it, sometimes, well, it needs a helper. It's kinda odd to see a U23B or an SDP35 pushing 2 cars and a 70 tonner up the grade. Makes you wonder why they wouldn't just use a bigger loco in the first place!

I am thinking higher speed, because I need full leingth trains to use my bigger locos, staging yard, and so your layout (which connects end to end at White River Jct.) has enough traffic. This section of line will be slower, because of the grade, but it's heavy duty rail and trains.

SteamFreak; does the RV still run?

Funny you should ask...

Actually, no, the last train to run on that line was in 1992 after the last customer closed their doors. It was an impressive 97 year lifespan for such a tiny railroad, probably attributable to the fact that it connected the Jersey Central, Lehigh Valley, and DL&W. The western end of the line to the DL&W in Summit that your photos resemble hasn't seen a train since 1976.

There have been rumblings ever since the RVRR shut down that the state of NJ wanted to reactivate it for freight service, but it faced such strong NIMBY opposition, since it runs close to a lot of backyards. In spite of that, The Morristown & Erie was contracted to renovate and operate the line, so work and track laying began in early '05, concentrating on the eastern end of the line. The ROW was cleared of brush and trees further west, but in the spring of last year work stopped when the money ran out in the NJ transportation fund. And there it sits. Disapprove [V] Hopefully there will be funds in the near future, but I'm not holding my breath with the way money is wasted in this state.

Rahway Valley #16 has been restored by the Whippany RR Museum, and #17 may soon follow. Those 2 engines were the railroad's entire roster after they dieselized.

Rahway Valley Locomotives #16 and #17

Their last Consolidation became an excursion engine at Steamtown when it was still in Vermont, and there are plans to restore it to service.

You mean this old girl?

That would be awesome! What year was she built, do you know?  She has to be older than the Mike they are using in excursion service now.  (I just clicked on the link and answered my own question...... Duh.  Yep she is a year older than the Mike.)

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

So it won't be like guilford?

Anyways, yea, lotsa wheel slip...

I've heard of people putting exra weight in the cab!

Next time I'll steal 1184 back from yoshi, that's a much better local or switch engine

"RAHWAY VALLEY RAILROAD NO. 15."  SteamFreak, how would Elmer Fudd pronounce the name of that railroad?

Shoot for the stars; so you miss, you are only lost in space.
