while it doesn't mean there's no damage, i think it suggests that the track interface and processor are responding and that the decoder is just scrambled, as others have suggested, and could be fixed with a reset.

gregc wjstix It could be OK and as suggested just need a re-set. If you haven't, maybe try reading a CV? If that reads, it might be OK. my NCE powercab can't read CVs, but can read manufacturer IDs.

of course there's a way for a decoder to report values when it is the sole device on the track by modulating the current drawn by pulsing the motor.
