PRR Tunnel Steam Blowers
Posted by tgindy on Sunday, May 14, 2006 10:20 PM
Does anyone have a source of the plans, and/or other pictures, for the old steam blowers from the Pennsy's steam era at the East Gallitzin and Allegheny Tunnels?

Here is a link to a picture...

I think and the operative word here is think that either Rails Northeast or the previous publication Pennsy Journal covered them in some detail but you are probably going to have to use pictures as a primary source. There is a good one in Pennsy Power two of a train coming off MUleshoe with them in the background.

The blowers at the time of the pictures were electric powered. They were controlled from AR tower.

You might try contacting the tunnel museum at Gallitzin. May or may not be a lead.

Thank you to all for the extra insight.

It might be time for a half-hour drive to Tunnel Hill => It has been quite some time since the last visit!

The tunnel steam blowers will make an interesting scratchbuilding project.
