It's not much to look at here, but it was glorious in real life. It's one of the International Car Company 81501-81509 series cabooses, maybe 81503? crossing Rockport Road southwest of Bloomington, Indiana in 1971 while working the Monon's maple Hill Branch in quarry-to-mill service.

The "brakeman" had to ride the roof to keep wires from snagging.
No pictures- but saw a DM&IR RR caboose (number unknown) on a drop deck semi trailer heading south from Superior WI about 3 weeks ago. Caboose trucks were on the trailer of the semi following the one carrying the caboose body. Figured some one has a project in the works. Any one have any info about it?

Besides the up in the air picture in Jackson, Tn which is located at the Casey Jones Museum on I-40. Great place to visit and eat. Casey's home is also there, they moved it from down town.
There is also another museum at Jackson, the NC SC&L Museum which on South Royal at the old NC SC&L train depot which is open, packed with memorabelia and pictures, along with a nice HO layout.

Branson Missouri December 25th, earlier morning right before the other caboose, kitty corner across the road from our hotel.
Wayne you're a Brit. The guy I do a lot of subcontracting for is a Brit. If I talk to him too early in the morning his accent is so heavy I can barely understand what he's saying.
His parents live somewhere fancy in England not too far from David Gilmour and know him as an acquaintance.
I guess Dave is a pretty laid-back guy and was talking to Darren's parents telling them how his pool guys would come over and he would pay them for a full day just to sit around and socialize before they finally got to doing his job.
Apparently the pool guys were there and ready to go to work. Dave enjoyed their company and just needed some good people to talk to for a while.

Regional accents and dialects, at least for folks speaking some form of English which we can understand, abound in the U.S. and Canada. The American friends that I visit definitely have discernible accents and I'm sure that my Canadian English has an accent noticeable to them, too.
Despite the apparently common useage here in Canada, I haven't ever called a caboose a "van". We have moving vans (parked ones, too) and mini vans, camper vans, and vans called shaggin' wagons, too, but everything shown in this thread looks like a caboose to me.
Three weeks or so ago in Wisconsin. Definitely one of my favorites. I may have posted it twice might reflect that fact.

Yes, a yellow D&RG and red ATSF back to back...... I also recall they had plexiglas (I assume it wasn't regular glass) that enclosed the adjoining "porches" to keep the weather out.

The shopping center is named Quarterfield Station. Trucks are stamped C&O 1929.
The shopping center may have been a stop on the Baltimore and Annapolis RR, when my mother and room mate took the train to dances at the US Naval Academy. Room mate married Ross Perot and I am not a billionaire.
When the thread started Henry, I did say I prefer red cabooses. This wood caboose you posted is in such wonderful shape. Very pleased with the restoration.

Ashburn, Georgia has a Fire Ant Festival every year. It is quite a bit of fun. The whole town has things with a fire ant theme. The home made fire ant scupltures are always great to see.

I grew up in the Burlington Northern era when they still had them. I am one of those goofy people that enjoy being stopped on the road to watch the train go by. I must say I'm always disappointed when the end of the train comes and it's just the GPS blinking light and no caboose
Ed, that little stubby Caboose was unique and rather small. I never seen one of those. I'm sure the thing was huge to that little boy when his mother put him on it. Probably the highlight of his day.

Ed: I tried to build a model of that boxcar/caboose many years ago, but I could not get it to work.
The trucks just do not have room to swivel behind the steps. I even tried using plastic trucks and shaving off the journal boxes, still would not track properly.
If I knew how to make it work mechanically, it would be a great looking caboose to build a model of.

Your B&O caboose looks a lot more "Do-able" with the steps coming straight down the side rather than the traditional caboose steps on the prototype picture you posted.
I will have to give this project another go with that modification.

Kevin you could model that Caboose with all your talent. You just gave up too soon as I did with many of my models on the back burner. Some sort of bump out before the steps go down. I bet you give it another whirl
I only have one bump out caboose I acquired in a trade with my brother. It's a more modern version of Ed's B&O. My brother got a Mesabi arrowhead 3 Bay Hopper in the trade. It was one of my favorites.

It was restored properly. It isn't a bunch of paint over paint or any rushed slapped together hodgepodge. She was restored well by Craftsmen, not a bunch of hacks.

I will need to keep my eyes open when I am travelling in Florida. I usually do not pay attention like I do in other areas... I have seen all of Florida before.

That's a really unique looking caboose Ed. It definitely looks restored and is old because there hasn't been any cabeese for years. It does look rather retro and was ahead-of-its-time at that time is my guess.

The fellow in the conductors uniform, rest his soul, is Joe Sullenberger. I miss that ol' fellow. He used to work on the Northern Alberta Ry. The young lady was a companion for a while

And what's the deal I've noticed that all conductors always look like conductors.

Mark Hall Patton standing in front of a historical caboose. I've always admired Mark. He always knows! That man's life is all about history and everything that goes with it.
He's a favorite of mine. The Administer of the Clark County Museum and a member of the Henderson Historical Society.
Mark knows his history. I catch clips and documentaries. I'm grateful for people like this and always interested in what he has to say because he knows what he's talking about
