cast plaster bridge -- should it be sealed in some way?

I have finished modifying a Monroe Models stone arch bridge for my layout.  The plaster has been stained and the bridge it is ready to install.  I did have to use a bit of spackling compound where the Plastruct corrugated steel inner liner left a slight gap or two.

So the question for those of you experienced with cast plaster structures or bridges -- should I be sealing the plaster with something, such as Matte Medium?  The stain is very lightly applied and presumably offers little or no protective coating.  My basement is dry but is subject to seasonal changes in humidity and I wonder about the lifespan of bare plaster.

I painted only the exposed sides and haven't had a problem.
