Hope I can post some pictures in the future, still waiting for Shinohara code 83 track from USA so I have a looong way to go. Benchwork just finished.

Looking forward to seeing some pics when you get your railroad ready. Which road do you plan to focus on?

Here is a link to a new picturetrail.com site I have made. It has a few shots I have uploaded of one corner of my layout as I played around with first efforts at scenery.

I'm not sure at the moment. I saw the track plan in a magazine and it has a bit of everything. I will build desert scenery, a couple of tunnels. High bridges and things like that. I think you call it loose modelling, right?

Neat pics Simon. I wish I'd have taken construction pics but then you guys would have seen real indecision in the form of foam, cookie cutter, plaster soaked paper towels and/or plaster cloth over news print, etc. It was a little bit of everything, not nice and tidy like yours. Looks like you've got yourself a very nice railroad. You running any trains yet?

Yes, I have all of the track laid around the room and have been running with my Digitrax for about 9 months. I have been working around the layout room getting the scenery started and this was my first section. I am now moving onto more urban areas of the layout.

Thanks. I use Atlas code 100 through out most of the layout.

After 7 hours of run time, my Lionel Challenger works MUCH better. Runs with less gear noise and wobble.
Now that I said that, a rod will probably fall off!

I hear guys talking about the differences between code 80 and 100 track, and I understand that code 80 is closer in profile/scale to the real thing. Aggro says he uses 100, as do I, so I guess that is good enough. Probably somewhat easier to weather, if nothing else. But I really must go and see the difference..somewhere..so that I can educate my eye.

Really nice scenics, everyone.

I have both code 83 and 100 but prefer the code 83. To my eye, it's not so much the lower rail height that makes code 83 more realistic but the tie size/spacing. Either will do though.

Nice pics, Pete. From the description of the railroad, it sounds like you guys are having fun! Incorporating places of family significance is a cool idea.

Here are some pics from my N-scale layout. I feel like I cheated a bit because the backgrounds were digitally added. At this point I click the “reply” button with a shaky finger, because there are so many tough acts to follow already!

can you tell us more about your great digital background? i found it quite aamzing.
thank you

I've got a T1 line, no bandwidth issue also no layout to photograph. Great thread, I look forward to the album and submiting some photos when construction begins on my new layout.

Thanks Dave. Look forward to your layout pics when you get it built. One thing I would have done differently is to photo document the whole building process. Something to think on... Eric

Thanks. My skyboards are just plain sky blue:

In order to dress them up for pictures, I would take a shot on the layout with my digital camera. The picture is then loaded into my PC and with photo editing software (I use "Digital Image Pro" - but many use "Photoshop") I can replace all the blue background of the layout picture with a new (real) background. It's sort of the same method they use in the movies for adding special effects (blue screen).

All you need to do is to find (or take pictures of) new backgrounds and match them up to your scene. I found mine as "wallpaper" pictures on the internet.

Here are a couple of more that I did (with the same background used in both):

You can even play with different weather and times of day:

The possibilities are almost limitless as you get to know how to use the software.

This layout has been in progress since the summer of '03. Rather than base it on a proto-type, it is free-lanced based on scenes from many different model railroads that I admire. I am partial to Santa Fe equipment of the cross-over years. Although I do have other equipment that I just plain like! [:)]

The layout was an around the wall, up and over, double mainline, with a hidden staging yard under the station area, an industrial scene on the other side, with the above peninsula. Unfortunately I've had to dismantle the layout, but for good reason as the train room is being enlarged! [:)]
