Randy,

I found the paint color. Here's a link: http://m.valsparpaint.com/color-detail.php?id=2208&g=1021

Not that the display on my laptop is calibrated (talk about business getting in the way - I have only been home on weekends for the past month and a half), but that looks just about a perfect match for the ballast color. Should do nicely, especially around switch points where the ballast is applied rather sparsely.

I installed a few more turnouts at the Georgetown passenger station and laid a few feet of track as well:

Are you sure their is enough N scale track in the US to finish your layout. How many feet of track is their.

I'm hoping there is Big Smile! No, all the track you're seeing came off my old N scale layout and there is a lot more still in that box.

I kept working at this area and installed a total of 18 turnouts today. Not too bad!

I laid most of the remaining track at the Georgetown passenger station today. It starts to look real good!

I'm not in the mood to lay more track today. Because the mainline needs to cross the big river coming out of the station I decided to build the bridge. That gives me something different to do for a change.

This is the location where the bridge will go:

I had the laser running all morning to make the parts so all I had to do was a little assembly. This bridge existed on the last layout as well, this time it's mirrored though.

Here's the inner core, fully assembled:

I added the outer layer with the engraved stone pattern. Tomorrow I will start to paint it and make it look good.

As I live in Florida and this is the rainy season the chances of being able to work outside in the afternoon are slim to none. That leaves me no choice but to take a few minutes off from work in the morning and do what I have to do: spray the new bridge with dark grey primer!

To get rid of the flatness of the taskboard surface I carefully sprayed the bridge with stone structure spray paint:

I dry brushed the bridge with some medium dark grey craft paint. Now the stones have a bit of a surface texture. I will follow up with lighter shades of grey and then fill the mortar lines with zip texture.

I carefully dry brushed the bridge with some light gray paint to get some variety in the stone coloring and bring out more detail:

I've filled the mortar lines with a grey zip texture mix and later gave the whole bridge a first careful wash with a black alcohol/india ink mix.

I took some pieces of leftover plywood and arranged them into a base for the river. Then I cut out a piece of roadbed and fit in the new bridge.

I redid the bridge, trying to improve it a little bit. This morning I cut a gap in the roadbed and glued the bridge in place:

Michael:

You are sure getting your money's worth out of that laser cutter! Great work!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
