While my wife is watching TV in the evening I can design the next structure...
It only takes the laser about 3 minutes to make the parts and not much longer to glue them together so it can be done during a coffee break .

The Breitenbach - Rosenheim Railroad V3
Some progress on the background buildings today:
I've decided on the first background buildings and built their foundation:
After a 2 week break I have done some work on the layout today. I started with installing a foamboard base for the background buildings of Barnesville:
I also cut and installed a piece of plywood that will hold the power supplies and boosters for the entire layout:
I added more rocks again, the river area is almost done:
gdelmoro what about all the track, switches, electronics and wire? are you taking it when you move?

Oh yes, I'm taking everything but plywood & plaster.

Michael:
I'm going to use your rock work as an example of what our club should strive for. It is a bit too steep for our venue in Northern Ontario but it certainly shows the quality of work that we want to achieve. Compared to your efforts, the scenery work that we have done in the past on our portable layout is horrible!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Michael, why do you see your layout as a write-off though?
You've done seminal work so far building it, and when the time comes I'm sure there could be a way to sell it. Renting a big truck is not a big deal and splitting the layout up in sections shouldn't be either.
Obviously, there are going to be some losses where cuts are made, but nothing that could not be repaired.
I think the only issue you might have is finding a suitable home for it. I would put out a call for interested parties right now.
After all, whoever will need a fairly large building to house it and there could be clubs or individuals interested in it. Putting a call out well in advance gives everyone time to organize and start building a new house for the layout.
Just my $0.02 from Canada, I know it's not worth as much in USD. :)

I am bored. Packing and boxing trains can be fun but now I'm all done. Sitting around after work and having nothing to do is not my thing. So...
So I'm working on the layout again, knowing very well that all the work will probably be ending up in a dumpster before the year is over. There's still a very good chance that we will move. But at least it gives me something to do and plaster of paris is inexpensive enough so I don't have to worry about it. I won't do anything to the layout that involves larger investments but doing some landscaping to keep me sane sounds like a good plan.
Today I've done more rock work along the small river that runs along the main line:
Hard to move and for those that have not been confronted with big decisions, all those graphs and check lists really don't help much and with the tax laws, any decision on anything can get real complicated, I mean real complicated.
richhotrain michaelrose55 Well, I'm still here. I'm not doing any modeling at this time but the other day the mailman delivered something I must have ordered a long time ago and today I thought "why not take a few pictures?" so here they are. I know it's the wrong scale but it still looks good!Mic Michael, you can't seem to let it go which is good. Like everyone else, I hate to see you abandon this layout. Are you sure that you want to walk away from this layout? Rich

I remember my modeling as I was thinking about moving. He has done more than me in advance, I waited till the papers were signed and then the layout was the last item to be addressed. Lucky for me is I always seem to have a sixth sence on when to move, things just add up subconsciously that tip the scale, no magic.
michaelrose55 No, but we might be moving. Will know more at the end of May...

richhotrainMichael, what's the end game? Are you leaving the hobby altogether? Rich
michaelrose55 I thought I'd post a little update. I've been boxing and inventoring all my rolling stock for the last few days. It's amazing how much stuff I have...

Nice looking mountain scene(s)
Then this afternoon I stumbled over the last pile of rock castings I made in January and I thought I could do a little bit of modeling instead of throwing them away. So I worked a little bit in this area, just for fun:
I didn't expect so many people being worried about me. A big thank you to everybody! There is no health issue or other life threatening problem behind this decision, it's just something I don't want to discuss right now. Whenever it gets solved I'll let you all know.
Thanks again for all the support, this is really a wonderful community.
Wow, this is a shock but stuff happens, just been through it myself but mine was for good reasons, dosn't sound like yours is, sorry about that and good luck with whatever it is.
Yes, Michael, please do what needs doing.
I appreciate your sharing of what you've worked on. Very nice work!
If/when you choose to continue, I will happily see "what's up".

Hope everything works out favorably. I'm sure you'll be back, no one ever leaves this hobby, we just take life-enforced breaks now and again.
