I can only imagine the look on the face of the store manager at your local big-box home improvement store when you arrive! "Ka-ching!"Big Smile

I'm in the process of designing and lasering all the roadbed pieces. I'm still getting used to H0 and it's dimensions but there is slow progress!

To support the local economy I went and bought a few sheets of plywood. It took 5 sheets to cover all of the Rosenheim peninsula!

To get a better idea about what I'm working with I unpacked a passenger train. I still think it's crazy how much space you need for H0!

I ran out of 1/8" taskboard today! That means I can make no more roadbed until more comes in. Luckily there are always other things you can do for your railroad so I started to make wood frames for the led strip lighting. This way the city peninsula will be brightly lit when I start laying track which is a good idea anyway!

I've added another 6' of lightbox, installed 8' of led strips, the power supply and wired it all up:

The Rosenheim station will eat 41 turnouts so I had to order a lot of them and a lot of flex track as well. Today the first shipment came in, the rest should be here early Novenber.

The lighting for the Rosenheim peninsula is complete now:

I have taken some measurements. With the fluorescent room lighting I'm measuring 403 lux...

...and with the led lighting we're looking at 1288 lux. That's a big difference!

Christmas twice a day! UPS delivered a box with 30 sheets of 3mm taskboard. Now I can make roadbed again. I can almost see track being laid Big Smile!

I've had the laser running all morning making roadbed. Here's the mainline taking shape:

I made it all the way around the bend. I'm so glad these curves will be hidden in a tunnel! Next I will have to fire up my CAD program and design the roadbed for the big passenger station. That'll be a lot of work!

I couldn't resist, I had to try and see how a train would look...

Bob Schuknecht

I am enjoying watching your progress Michael.

Thanks Bob, it's a lot of fun to build this layout. I've learned a lot building the N scale G&AM (mostly what NOT to do Wink) and now I have the opportunity to make all new mistakes!

I can't get any modeling done today because I have visitors from Germany that originally wanted to see the G&AM and now had to make do with an empty room. Norbert booked his vacation when the G&AM was still up and running and he is a big fan of American railroads. Unfortunately he is about 2 months too late but we're still having a good time!

I don't have much to show yet but the visitors keep coming! Here's fellow modeler Rick Wade from Florida visiting me today:

First may I say, this is going to be amazing to follow along, you will be my inspiration for my new layout I've only just begun.

Second , what the heck is  taskboard?

Thanks for the praise! I hope I can earn it...

Taskboard is a wood based, cardboard like product that's perfect for laser cutting. I use it for my roadbed as well as for structures. Here's a link to the taskboard website: http://www.taskboard.com/

I've spent the last few days making drawings for my laser. Today I've started to cut the roadbed for the big Rosenheim station. We'll see whether all this is correct as I have no experience with H0 track dimensions and there might be some errors lurking that won't show themselves until I have puzzled together more of the station tracks. I'll probably find out by tomorrow...

I've made a few more roadbed pieces and then carefully laid out the turnouts to see whether it all fits together. Looks like I'm lucky!

The Rosenheim station roadbed is about 75% complete now. Enough to stage a train:

I designed an built these led strips myself. This way I have control about the quality of the light and can make sure all leds have the same color temperature and CRI.
