Blue Points
Posted by skagitrailbird on Thursday, June 11, 2009 8:58 AM

I recently purchased some Blue Point turnout controllers and some Gold-N-Rod control rod sets.  I am puzzled about how to connect one end of the control rod to the Blue Point and how to attach a knob of some sort to the other (facia) end of the rod.  If you have conquered these challenges please enlighten me.

Did you see the instructions at the Blue Point web site? It looks fairly straightforward, but then I'm accustomed to working with clevises and pushrods.

Do you have the little connection thingie (technical term) that connects the blue point to the pull rod? One side is a female end that screws onto the rod, and the other is like two flat pieces that fit snuggly over the movable part of the blue point. It might be called a "clevis". I bought some control rod stuff the other day, I don't know if they came with that thing or not, but I know you can buy them from RC stores, usually with airplane stuff.

I use super glue to attach the knob on the pull end. Drill a hole through it and stick the pull rod into the hole, then pour the glue on. Seems to hold pretty well.

Hi from Belgium,

Take a look at the "construction journal" of this blog; they use only Blue Point and have made control panel for them which are very easy and inexpensive to  build.

Good luck.
