HarryHotspur

That is really nice work, vsmith. What scale is it?

Also, could you post some pictures of the unfinished layout we can partly see in the background of one of your photos? It looks interesting.

Hi Harry, sorry I missed this post 1st time around, its my main indoor layout, both are G scale, can do with new pics if still interested. Wink

My guess is, you are going to wipe the town, and run the second loop up there, but then what? all trestle? or have it extend further? Surely not smaller! I just discovered this thread (thanks for reviving it), and can't wait to see what you're going to do. :-)

Started setting up the foam peices

Cold weather makes glueing the pieces together a day long experience! Glue one piece, come back tomorrow, glue one peice, come back tomorrowSigh

But progress is occuring, once I get these pieces carved and shaped a little better I'll glue the whole shibang together. I originally planned to place a small tunnel on top but looking at it now I'm not going to do that but will add more pinnacles and a small mesa along side the track to it instead.

Work to date: Bridge underway!

Bridge begun

Foam arch

Bridge , station removed, the lower parts of it will be covered by the station.

more bridge, new retaining wall

Yet more bridge . Because of the nature of the track I had to build the bridge in place one bent at a time. Finished the bridge, just need to paint it next.

If anyone is still interested...

Finally some finished pictures, some misc scenery to add but its 95% completed, I suppose I'll be adding stuff to it from here on out, as this is likely going to be my only layout for the time being. Thats OK I have lots of ideas to add to this layout, I'm discovering that one realy doesnt need a yard or basement full of track to have fun, after all for me its all about the modeling so as long as I have stuff to model I'll be doing just fine

I forgot I had a thread here so time for an update, I dismantled my large indoor layout for space issues, so I used all the bits from that layout to build a mobile large scale layout, even that went thru a convoluted design evolution, including adding fold down sections that didnt work, I am now at this stage:

here is a full pic, kinda crowded but it gives a good idea of its overall environment:

The upper layout is the layout from this thread, it is removable, I designed it so the top could go to shows, but so far its only been to one (1) show since 2008...so I might just fix it permanantly.

The layout is 5'-6" square

more scenery done, at least to what I consider the "base level" of scenery

For some reason with the forum format, I can only load 2 pics at a time so....

Not that anyone over here seams to give a fig Wink but I guess I can say that the scenery is done, well for now:

You can see some of the scale "junk" in these pics, I have always found typical model RRs to way to clean and pristine for my tastes as almost every real railroad I ever have been to (outside of Disneyland) was always littered with junk and trash. So even though my layout is impossibly squashed and fore shorted till its almost in front of its own back, its still got alot of detail ;)

Got a short video of the layout to date:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfbM0pUP8_I

The train is an uber-cheeser Lionel job I got on extreme sale for $30 at Big Lots, found out why as the drive was busted - but it was fixable, so now I'm experimenting with seeing what its potential is. Likely loose everything from the wheels up and scratch something better looking on it.

Well for now, that’s all folks Smile, Wink & Grin

R2...... Where are you???

I really like your scenery. I enjoy MRR's with detail like yours. With so much going on you forget how small the layout  actually is and can find something new with every look.

Thanks, that was the big idea, forget sweeping vista and broad scenic wonder, aint got the room for all that, instead to consider and utilize every square inch, Micro not Macro. I'm still making tin cans right now and some additional ROW  "junk" on the layout, also be nice if I could find or make a few scale spikes. Oh well no hurry.
