The cassettes will need to be supported at both ends. It will not work to try to hold up one end. Looks like you will need that tea cart!

Not necessary. I use cassettes that have two pattern maker's dowels at one end. The dowels align and support the end of the cassette that mates with the layout, while the free end is supported by a simple tripod stand made of scrap aluminium section.
