Sharing Pics
Posted by ghelman on Saturday, April 30, 2005 9:28 PM
OK, I know we all enjoy seeing pics of other's RR so how about sharing a couple. I'll start. Here are a couple of mine. I have been changing my layout and here is what it looked like today.

George, this is the way mine looked about four weeks ago before most of the perennials started to come up. One thing I like about a garden railway is that it is constantly changing with the seasons.

Here are a few shots of the current status of my RR. I just took them this morning about 0800. Notice the fine British weather we are having today!

This is an overview; my extension is coming along fine. I solved the track crossing problem that Vsmith pointed out with a little concrete.........

Ah, spring and the lovely Iris!

I could head this, Mine, all mine!!

Take back what I said about the mine kit, it will look just great when it's in properly. Something like:

T Jack, pic of the corner!! Cheers mate

A nice timber trestle will look great here and the mine track will have to be extended to accomodate a loco with some more tippers.......................
Cheers,
Kim

Mark, this go round I dug a trench about two inches deep and put the ballast (crusher fines) in. I then laid the track and added more ballast. I say this go around because when I first laid it a couple of years ago I laid it enirely on concrete. Actually it worked quit well. The only thing is I used to much concrete and didn't leave enough room for the plants. I am already sepnding more time re-ballasting and leveling the track. Lot more wash outs now. But, I figure I like trains and gardening so its all part of being outside and enjoying both.

Good job on that crossing T Jack. I am getting your weather this morning. Oh well the new plants I put in yesterday will love it.

I agree Bill, the change in the garden is always happening. I see water tower in your pic. Any close up.

NO FAIR!!!!!! How come the sun is out in England and it's dark grey overcast, cold, raining cats and dogs in the "world largest resort city"?????????? TAKE THE CLOUDS BACK!!!!

The corner looks good, Kim. It has a finished look about it now. Didn't mean to criticise, but sometimes a second set of eyes can see things that were missed. I like the mine track, maybe I could steal that idea for my RR. I will be adding a tunnel ( a la BennysRR style) on the left side of the bridge and a mine track may be just the thing to justify it.

I'll post more pics, IF the sun comes out again.

Kim, i missed your pics the first time I read this. Sometimes the pics don't load. Your RR looks great. Is that a tunnel going through s fence? Or is that what T. Jack is referring to as the mine?

That's the mine George, should have included this pic with the others. I don't think Pete, my neighbour, would be impressed with a hole in our new fence. I have the idea of having 4 or 5 mines around the garden with them all connected by rail. The track will all be 1' higher than the main and will loop the garden.

T Jack, I appreciated your imput, as you say, another set of eyes!

Cheers,
Kim

Kim,

you never know about neighbors. I read an article once where a guy didn't quite have the room he needed for his GRR. He discussed it with his neighbor and they agreed to have the RR run in a portion of the neighbors yard. The neighbor was just thrilled.

I have also read that some people are using a smaller scale track for the mining operations look. Not the whole GRR, just where they have a mine. Have you done any of that?

Hi George, this is me just back from the pub, 7 hours drinking and pissed as a rat. Any way, I think the mine would look good in a smaller scale but it's staying at 45mm. I have already got the loco sorted out for the mine level anmd it's going to look good.
Cheers,
Kim

This is me several hours later and the head is back in gear! Apologies for drunken ramblings but the above is about right, it will be good fun getting the new track done, Gail accepts that the line has to go in.[^] Oh, Man U beat Charlton 4-0, excellent.
Cheers,

The mine owners appealed to the railroads to help out with their transport problems and the Rio Grande sold them this old oil burner that they found in a shop somewhere. This is actually the first loco I bought, an LGB passenger starter set, in 1986

Thanks for the pics everyone,
Ghelman: My eye caught your poor hippo in the photos. At least he is "clean" now. Great work on the RR. Mine here is looking rather sparse. The weather needs to warm up so we can see some growth happening. Keep up the good work. Later eh...Brian.

Mark,
you have to have them on the internet, like on your personal site or one of those picture sharing sites.
[ img ]the full web address including http:// [ /img ]
Just subtract all the spaces. they were put in so that the forum would not think i'm trying to make a picture.

like so

This is my layout btw.

Mark
Here is a quote from T Jack. He helped me out with the photo insert when I first started on this forum.
QUOTE: as far as posting photos, it's a little bit of a pain. You have to set up shop at www.shutterfly.com and upload your photos there. Then when you want to post, right click on the photo, go to "properties" and highlight and copy the url. Then go to this forum, click on the icon that looks like a mountain, and you should see
[img] [/img

put the cursor between the inner brackets and "paste" the url and it will look like this

[img]url.12345677[/img

when you "preview" your response you should see your photo as it will post. It took me a few tries to get it right, so don't be afraid to experiment. I found that if I want to add multiple photos it is easier to cut and paste all the urls from shutterfly to a word document, the cut and paste from the word doc to this forum. Like I said, it's a little bit of a pain.............

Good Luck.

Yet another sunny evening in good old Blackpool, so out came the Geep for a look around the garden.
Here she is waiting for orders.

Hang on Kim.I'm sure that load of pipes could be carried in a far 'greener' way on a canal barge.
Think of the waste of diesel!!
The only time a large diesel should be sent out is when the footballers have run out of beer.
Then again.Let's have lots of wagons.(with the amber nectar.)
Seriously.
Who makes this and how does it run?
The boy's have been giving me serious grief about a diesel.I want to stick with a British one so I'm going to have to make it.
Bugger!

Hi Troy,
It's a USA 38/2 mate and it runs like a dream. I'm sure that Ian (powlee) said that they are bringing out a class 66 but I do like the sound of the Deltic you are going to make for the lads. I'll have to use the pipes for an underground beer line to the shed!
Cheers,
Kim

A little more work. Few more plants and something to start hiding the house a little. Hope the ivy will climb. The red outhouse is also back in service after some heavy rain damage. That is something my dad built.

Nice job Mike. You RR looks great. I like the Christmas look. Of course in my part of the country I don't see that white stuff to often. 1989 was the last time I can remember. How about some spring shots?

I was outside the other day and happen to have the camera with me so I got a few pictures of parts of the layout.

some day I'll get all the Honey Do's I have finished and will be able to put more time into the RR.

Later,
Jack
