Gas Prices what are they where you live, work and play?

They showed today on the news a new gas made out of vegtable oil. Saying more choices need to be made available. Gas hit $2.45 inland, $ 2.60 at the beaches. Premium is closing in on $3.00 but not quite there yet.

Not so sure about all that Boiler. I just read that a leading stock trading firm is projecting oil to peak at about $105 USD very soon. That translates to about $4.00 a gallon for gasoline. I think that is certainly going to make a dent in SUV sales. And it will probably bring on a round of inflation as the cost of everything goes up because of increased energy costs. I hope they're wrong, but I don't think so.

89p a litre = $6 a gallon give or take. I find it hard to believe its much cheaper in Switzerland?

Funny that these prices have not made much impact to the introduction of SUV's in UK aka 'Chelsea Tractors'.

I just filled up at $2.25 for 91 (which does not translate as the octane is measured differently UK to US - sort of like 94 ish/4 Star)

All the major manufacturers selling in the US make more economical vehicles, they do not sell them here because nobody would buy them. Have yet to see Ford advertising the Ka or Fiesta here.

And size? Well my parents carted us around in a Ford Anglia, could park that it the back of my wife's truck.

All I see is vehicles getting bigger. Current price levels will make litlle change, well except a lot of hot air.

Capt, it's still a dead issue. It has now been 15 years since the last phase was done and as far as I know nothing is even on the drawing board for the southern portion of Route 55.

Did they ever decide what to do about the Southern end of RT.55??? When I moved away in '93 it was still kinda a road ot nowhere, ending on Rt.47 just above Port Norris.
They were doing studies about bringing it down to Dennisville area, then across to Parkway; anything come of that?

Here in South Jersey, bounded by the Delaware River and Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean, regular gasoline costs $1.88 per gallon. Incidentally, there is talk of a new passenger rail line being considered along Route 42 or Route 55.

Talking about driving short distances, I remeber when I used to live at Chipping Norton in Sydney you could see the shops from my place.

Well one day i walked home from the shops and was alarmed that my car wasn't in the driveway. I went inside and straight away asked my wife if she knew where my car was and she said no, she hadn'r seen it I knew no one else had it as i had the keys in my pocket.

I was about to get on the phone to the police and report it stolen, when i thought before i did that i would try and remeber when i had seen it last.

I thought about it and thought about it and came to the conclusion I had seen it last over at the shops, sure enough I had driven it over there and forgotten i had and I had left it there!

Cheap end of gas just went up to $2.33 for cash, $2.39 for credit. Haven't had the seperate prices since the 70's here. Another way to get us. At the beach gas hit $2.50 or more.

Thank goodness for the GRR, a fun hobby that takes virtually no energy to operate. I'd dreamed of touring the country in a big RV one day but as gas approaches $3.00 a gal, that's not going to happen. At 8 MPG, thats $.37 per mile or $2220 for a 6000 mile coast-to-coast trip, and that's just for gas. BTW, anyone interested in buying an 86 Jag XJ6 ? Only uses one gallon of super premium gas every 13 miles, ouch! It costs me $2.40 to go get a gallon of milk in town.

In San Diego proper today, $2.45 for regular, $2.75 for premium.

This is supply and demand it it's finest. If there is the demand for smaller cars, someone will make them and sell them. People always complain about SUVs and that there are so many of them. That's what people want. I wouldn't mind something that gets better mileage, but it's hard to put a wife, two kids and two dogs in a two seat soup can with wheels.

Hopefully we'll always be able to vote with our money. That is until some politician builds us a train to nowhere for us to ride. Oh wait. We already have those!

Kim, here in SoCal, with bad public transportation, everyone drives to everywhere even if it is close. Yes we are a spoiled bunch. I used to have a friend who lived acrooss the street from my apartment. He drove.

Many drive to 7/11 which is probably 1/2 mile away. No one walks to supermarket or mall.

Right now with sore knee, I don't walk very far, but I used to bike most everywhere.

Gas is holding for 4 days now without a raise, have we paused, or stopped so far????

You are right there Walt, still you cut your cloth to suit your purse. In the UK a lot of people think about getting in their cars for short journeys. Our local supermarket is less than a mile away, if we only need a few things we walk, the sea shore is just over a mile and on a nice day it's a nice walk plus we have our bikes, good for the atmosphere as well.

Sheesh. I paid $1.75 a gallon in the 70's! And you could get a nicely loaded car for $7800. And, I was making a WHOLE lot less $. Now, a cup of coffee is $5 and people PAY for water in a bottle - and nobody complains.

Gas is still relatively cheap. It's only the media the fans the flames....

grandpopswalt But in the gasoline industry prices are up nearly 100% around here....and profits are up??? I know that I don't drive anywhere near what I used to.....same for most people that I know.

Don't forget that a major part of gas price is local and state tax. I know in Europe, much of the "free" health care costs are covered by the gas tax.

No-name gas stations buy gas by bidding on the lots, you get cheap gas, but quality is less than the big name dealers.

What's so bad about oil companies making a profit? Isn't that why they are in buisiness? Gas price doesn't seem to have affected the sale of over-the-top SUV behemoths. Remember, what the consumer wants influences what the manufacturer will produce.

BTW did you know that Exxon owns the patent on gasoline?

I think gas went down today. $2.33 at name stores, $2.26 at noname stores. Don't know why.

You're right, the major oil companies are very profitable right now. But so are most other segments of the economy, except airlines and the shortsighted US car manufactureres.
