Goin' down?, here in New Zealand its $nz1.30 a litre, thats $5.85 gallon., and your complaing ???????? The only advantage is that being a small country we can drive ( provided we catch a ferry between the 2 major islands) to one end to the other on 3 or 4 tanks of petrol.

The 110 octane stuff has been well over $3.00 per gallon for a long time. They haven't been hit with quite as big of a percentage as us.

I was a local Gas station that sells Cam 2 racing gas that is 110 octane and is leaded for use in race cars and older classic cars $ 4.00 a US gallon!
I wonder if local motor sports will take a hit in attendence this year?
Locally regular 87 octane is back down from $ 2.29 a week ago to & 1.97 today.

Don't forget to buy a locking gas cap to frustrate the siphoners!
Around Philly, that didn't stop them, they just took an icepick, punched a hole in your tank and let it drain into a tub and poured it into a can. Big pain in the posterior portion when you were the one they chose to drain!

Or I would be concerned about someone tapping in to a gasoline pipeline. I don't know about the rest of the country but they do exist in Michigan for sure. I used to go to a station in Napoleon, Michigan that always was .15 or .20 cheaper than other stations. One time when I was there I asked how they could be so much cheaper and the manager told me that they were a pipeline station....they draw their supply right from a gasoline pipeline.....no truck transportation costs. Then I think the company got greedy and started charging the same as everybody else.

I remember back in the 70's during the then oil embargo, some enterprizing people hijacked at gunpoint a fully loaded gas tanker delivery truck, it disappeared, and was never found. Wonder how long before we start hearing stories like this again?

You will probably only see biodiesel in your area sold as B20. That's 20% bio with 80% petroluem diesel. I don't know how many stations sell diesel in your area.....about 1/3 of all stations around here (NW Ohio) sell diesel and only one sells B20. In Detroit just about an hour north, there are a few more.
Capt Bob Johnson
You only have to worry about us diesel drivers!!!!! [:p]

Capt. Bob, [4:-)] if you see a hummer stop, you better run. [:D][:D]
Underworld, awesome links, and good info. Didn't know that. Haven't seen any biodiesel for sale anywhere around here, just on the tv, but it looked pretty cool.
$2.50 today at most stations., cheap gas is climbing 2 cents a day now. It is up to $2.40 today. Premium is $2.75-$2.90.
Can't wait til CA has its first supply line break, gas will climb 50 cents in 1 day then.

I think what you saw is what is called biodiesel. It is diesel fuel made from vegetable or animal oil stocks. A diesel can also be run off of waste vegetable oil or animal oil stocks
www.veggievan.org
www.biodiesel.com
www.greasel.com
No problem so long as you own a diesel.....I do!!!!! Nice thing about biodiesel is that you can make it yourself.....no real special, fancy, or expensive equipment......no science background.....if you can follow simple safety precautions....you can make it! Biodiesel has been available in Europe and some other parts of the world for years now.....it is just starting to get in to US markets. Just some more info big oil doesn't want you to know about. Biodiesel is made through transesterification of the oil stocks with just one nasty by product.........glycerin! Which can be used to make wonderful soap. Yep, actual soap......not the crap that they sell us in stores today that they call soap.....which is actually detergent.....great for washing your car.....but not yourself. Around WWII the oil rendering industry realized that they could make a lot more off of their glycerin from the explosives manufacturers than from the soap manufacturers. That's also why you keep seeing ads for "soap" (detergent) bars with "added moisturizers" like aloe or vitamin E or something like that......because detergent has the nasty ability to dry out your skin. All pollutants are reduced by using Biodiesel compared to petroleum based diesel fuel with the exception of elevated levels of N2O. There are technologies developed to reduce the N20. There are some people....mostly at home experimenters....... woking on further "cracking" of BioDiesel to refine a lighter, less viscous, more volatile fuel as a replacement for gasoline. This will likely take very high temperatures and pressures similar to cracking crude oil into gasoline. Think of the boost to the economy that this would be. We could take all of the farmers in the country that are now being paid to NOT farm and they could now be raising vegetable oil stocks (canola etc...) also it can be made, and is made from oil derived from algae....now there is something that is easy to grow! I've been using home made biodiesel as a supplement for almost 2 1/2 years now. I'd be making more but I live in an apartment .
